Sparks fly between an L.A. career woman and a former Army Ranger in this delightful enemies-to-lovers romance from the USA Today bestselling queen of small-town love stories. Welcome to Highland Falls, a small town where love is always in the air. In just a few months Abby Everhart has gone from being a top LA media influencer to an unemployed divorcée living out of her car. So inheriting … gone from being a top LA media influencer to an unemployed divorcée living out of her car. So inheriting her great-aunt’s homestead comes at the perfect time. Abby heads to Highland Falls, North Carolina, to spruce up Honeysuckle Farm before putting it on the market for some much-needed cash. But instead of finding a charming getaway, she discovers a serious fixer-upper, complete with a leaky roof, overgrown yard, and a reclusive — albeit sexy — man living on the property.
With no where else to turn, and the promise of an inheritance from her great aunt Abby Everhart is headed to North Carolina with the hope of a new start. For the last six months she has been residing in her car, and she is ready to have a home and a real bed to lay her head on. But when she arrives in Highland Falls and sees the state of the home that has been left to her she realizes she may just have been given far more than she bargained for, it’s in need of a lot of work. But she came armed with a plan and doesn’t intend to let anything derail it… even a broody, and uber sexy, ex-soldier that is determined to hold on to the only place he is every felt at home!
Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is a story of new beginnings, healing, love, and finding home. If ever there were two people in need of a happily ever after it was these two, both were harboring old wounds, and struggling to find their way, but once they met things began to change. Little by little you could see growth from both of them, guards were being lowered, and feelings started to bloom. It was a slow burn romance, one that took care and time to build, and one with many ups and downs.
I adored everything about this one, it’s pages took me on a journey that left my so darn heart happy! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
When Abby Everhart inherited her aunt’s home…it couldn’t have come at a better time for her, but it could have come as a more maintained condition…and without strings (Hunter MacKenzie) attached!
This small town romance was so enjoyable! I loved the banter, the relationships that formed, the backstories, the town characters, the broody veteran hero, the small town setting…sigh. Such a wonderful storyline! There were plenty of laugh out loud moments as well!
Debbie Mason has always been an author I have “gone to” when I need an enjoyable “lighter” romance novel. She does it here once again. Abby was slightly annoying to me, but other than that I really enjoyed Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge! I would recommend reading this! 4.25 stars.
Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is the first in a new series that is off to a wonderful start. This is a story of when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Abby has gone from a rich, extravagant married life in LA to inheriting a rundown, fixer upper farm after losing everything in her divorce. She doesn’t let her circumstances affect her outlook on life and makes friends with everyone she meets except Hunter. Hunter is a reclusive, ex-soldier who wants to be left alone with his half of the farm but Abby’s klutzy, sweet, talkative personality just draws him in and has him working on repairs to the farm. Abby’s plan was to sell the farm and Hunter’s plan is to regain his solitude, but the more time they spend together the more their plans are changing. This is a wonderfully written story full of an arrange of emotions that will have the reader enthralled until the very last page. The characters are engaging and the story flows smoothly with many laugh out loud moments. I highly recommend this book.
I received an advanced reader copy from the publisher but all thoughts and feelings are my own.
I can remember a time when starting a new series by a beloved author messed up my whole world. I hated leaving such loved characters. I didn’t think I’d be able to fall for a whole new group. It took a few special authors to help me get over my fear. Debbie Mason is one of those authors.
With her I know I’ll be getting new wonderful characters that I can fall in love with.
And that’s just what happened in Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge. I just loved Abby and Hunter. These two are perfect together. More than once throughout the book I caught myself putting down the book so I could think about them and how they are together. See, this is why I love Mason’s books. It doesn’t matter if I like the character or not, I always get engrossed with the story.
Since I myself like to learn things as I read them I won’t get into too much about some of the stuff that happens to Abby or Abby’s little issue. Just know that out of all her heroine’s Abby is one of my top favorites. She is so real and giving. She’s always willing to help someone out. Even when she’s making mistakes it’s never because she’s not carrying about others.
Now Hunter is a little harder nut to crack. He is a totally unhappy person and I get why that is. He’s had a ton of crap happen in his past that weighs heavily on his shoulders. You feel for him hidden away from those he loves because it’s easier to be with himself than others.
That is until Abby comes along. She shakes up his world and really misses with his intentions of being all alone for the rest of his life. If he’s not there to protect the woman she might hurt herself. I bet you want to know why…read the book.
Like with all of Mason’s series you’ll have characters you are not sure if you’ll like or not. That’s part of the fun in her books. You can’t wait to see how they’ll make you like them. Right away I can see so many characters that I NEED their stories. This was a ball to read and I would have to say so far this year my favorite read. Now the year isn’t over yet so that can change. Did I mention she also has a book out at the end of September…
If you haven’t yet read a book by Debbie Mason this is the perfect series to start. You’ll love kilt staring, chest touch Abby. Again, you’ll need to read the book to understand what I’m talking about. I hope I wet your whistle.
Warm, sweet, and affecting!
Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is an amusing, tenderhearted, enemies-to-more romance that transports you to the small town of Highland Falls and introduces you to the reclusive, broody, Hunter who is content to live alone and wallow in his guilt and grief for past losses, and the spunky, accident-prone Abby who is need of some quick cash and is determined to scrimp, save, fix, sell and move on as quickly as possible.
The writing is humorous and light. The characters are supportive, helpful, and fun-loving. And the plot is a charming blend of family, friendship, touching moments, adversity, attraction, chemistry, swoony romance and hilarious mishaps.
Overall, Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is a heartwarming, spirited, satisfying tale about teamwork, communication, love, and taking chances. It’s a fabulous start to the new Highland Falls series by Mason, and I can’t wait to read Mallory & Gabriel’s story next.
I love books by Debbie Mason and this one is probably my favorite to date. I love humor in books and this one was overflowing with it. Poor Abby has so many moments of almost slapstick comedy that you would feel sorry for her in her clumsiness if it weren’t for her wonderful attitude and reactions to the moments. The moment when Hunter discovered that she wasn’t just clumsy and accident-prone, but there was a reason behind it was a turning point in the book.
The growing protectiveness and care that Hunter shows for Abby is really heartwarming and my view of him changed greatly at that point. He morphed into one of my very favorite heroes of recent reads.
I’m so glad the two of them got their HEA.
Ms. Mason gave me all the feelings I look for in a book. Awesome!
I was given a copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
At first I found Abby to be annoying, and I felt like Hunter just tolerates her. However she grew on me and I end up really liking her. She has a big heart and a big spirit she is a spit fire that’s for sure but she also has this completely sweet and relatable side to her. I really like Sadie and Mallory and hope their stories are coming soon too. The characters in this book really draws you in and make you want to stick around to see what they are going to do next. This book does have adult situations indicates but overall the book was a completely fun read and I can’t wait for more. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion
An entertaining, laugh out loud romance. Abby is almost broke after her recent divorce from her cheating ex. She leaves LA for Highland Falls, North Carolina after learning that she has inherited her great aunt Liz’s farm. Her plans, sell the farm and head back to LA. The catch, there always has to be a catch, she is not the sole owner. Hunter MacKenzie, former Delta Force soldier, has been living at the farm since leaving the military and helping Liz with the farm. He is stunned when he meets Abby, she is so beautiful and really accident prone. Abby thinks he is a mountain man and is wary of him at first, but all too soon different feelings arise. Will Abby change her mind and realize that living on the farm is where she needs to be? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Abby’s cheater husband got everything in the divorce but the dog. She has to live in her car, then she learns that, she inherited a farm with the house from her aunt. She is happy she has place to live now, then she can sell it. There is a problem, her aunt left half of the property to Hunter. They don’t like each other.
I enjoyed this story so much. Loved Abby and Hunter.
Summer On Honeysuckle Ridge was the perfect book for me to hunker down under a blanket and devour.
Hunter and Abby’s story is flirty yet frustrating, as they snap and bite at each other (in a non kinky way!)
Our girl Abby has had a crappy year, but she is the epitome of “when life throws you lemons, make lemonade.” She doesn’t let anyone or anything get her down, and when you learn her history, you can’t help but love her more.
I love a gruff, grumpy hero, and Hunter is all that and more Even when you should hate him, I just couldn’t do it.
I completely get the small town vibe of this book, their wariness of outsiders and how hard it can be to fit in there – been there, done that! However I also get the great friendships you can make with those that reach out to you.
There are some completely horrible secondary characters in this book, and I wanted to cheer from the rooftops when they got what was coming.
I adored the people of this town and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Another great book by Debbie Mason. This book has great characters and a wonderful story line. From the beginning of the book to the very end you will have a lot of mixed emotions.
I think I laughed and almost cried a lot while reading it. Abby has been through a lot in her lifetime so far, her ex-husband Chandler divorced her for his attorney and then sued Abby so that she had nothing. She lived in her car with her little yorkie named Bella. Then her ex’s housekeeper told her that she had inherited her Aunt Liz’s house in Highland Falls. So Abby takes off to see about the house with the intention of selling it.
When she gets there she finds the house is rundown and in need of a lot of repairs that she can’t afford to do. Then she finds out that all she owns is the house and the land in front and behind it. Hunter owns the rest.
Abby is quite the talker and Hunter is the silent type. But Abbey works her magic on him and brings him back into town and around his family.
An awesome story that will have you sitting on the edge of your chair wondering what she is going to do next
4/5 stars!
The book features a heroine in need of a new start and a grumpy hero who needs to get out of his shell. Surrounded by a wonderful group of secondary characters and two bewitching canine companions, the story gives a good, small-town vibe with moderate angst. Overall, it was a nice story to read, even though there were a couple of places that needs better transitions in my eyes.
**Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the review copy.**
Heartwarming and enchanting! This new series by Debbie Mason is filled with entertaining characters, a delightful small town, a Scottish Betty White look-alike who has the gift of second sight, as well as the Highland Hotties in kilts! I have loved Debbie Mason’s previous small town series and this one promises to be just as captivating and touching. I couldn’t put it down!
Ever since I saw a lady at dinner reading one of the Christmas, Colorado series, Debbie Mason has been one of my favorite go-to authors. The first book of this new series did not disappoint! I loved everything about it and cannot wait to start the second book!
Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge is the first book in Debbie Mason’s Highland Falls Series. I am so excited to start this new series by Ms. Mason. If you like small town romance that is action packed this is the book for you. I was drawn in from the first page and I did not want to put this book down. The story was very well written the characters well defined. You will laugh out loud one minute and the have tears in your eyes the next. This will definitely make an awesome new series. I am anxiously waiting for the next book.
About the book:
Sparks fly between an L.A. career woman and a former Army Ranger in this delightful enemies-to-lovers romance from the USA Today bestselling queen of small-town love stories.
Welcome to Highland Falls, a small town where love is always in the air.
In just a few months Abby Everhart has gone from being a top LA media influencer to an unemployed divorcée living out of her car.
Ex-Delta Force soldier Hunter MacKenzie has faced war and loss, but nothing has quite prepared him for an outgoing redhead who’s determined to turn his life upside down. Hunter doesn’t want to get involved with anyone, especially a city girl who plans to sell the only place he’s ever felt at home. But the sparks between them are undeniable. Spending time with Abby is easy. Convincing her to stay for good is another matter entirely.
I absolutely loved this book the characters were great! All the setting were brilliant! It made the places seem real. I loved how it turn out in the end! This is the 1st of a brand new series I highly recommend reading this.
This is my first time reading Debbie Mason, and I must say that she had my undivided attention from the get go. The writing is very fluid and alive. Since the setting is in NC, where I live, it was easy for me to envision.
Abby Everhart had it all, and then she had nothing but her little dog Bella that is until a long lost relative that she had never met left her a cabin in the woods of NC. What’s a city girl with nothing to her name to do except travel from CA to NC to see how much she could sell the property for and get back on her feet…..but hold up, then there is Hunter, who happens to own half of the property…and is quite attractive.
I will definitely being more titles by this author.
Received in exchange for a honest review.
When I first began the book, I did not like Abby. I found her to be a snob. She seemed to look down at people who weren’t in the lifestyle she once was. Now she is at the bottom and having to go up again. She started, like mentioned, as a snob but as she realized that her life was superficial she got to be a liked character. Was she a hot mess? Yes. Did she have to learn and start to listen to others? Yes. Did she care about others? Yes she just didn’t always help them in the best ways. She didn’t think before wanting to help and sometimes that gets her in messes.
Hunter was a loner. He wasn’t always like that but due to in his past, he felt guilt and went into being alone in the woods. Abby starts to disrupt his peace. At first he doesn’t really get along with him. She sees he is sexy but frustrating. For him, she is stuck up city girl in over her head. But things change as she starts to try to fix up the house and he helps her. He sees her as someone in a bad situation. Sees she has a good heart but doesn’t always think before she does things. She acts first. They learn about one another and start to grow on each other.
Then Abby begins to see a way to get back into the life she thinks she wants back, only in the process she does do things that can hurt Hunter. She and Hunter start out rocky and become friends and eventually lovers. Hunter begins to see a future with her but she does something that hurts him. These two misunderstand each other and almost lose something precious but find a way back to one another.
The story is fun and flirty. We see Hunter go from recluse to semi-recluse Abby helps him to open up again and see that life is worth living. That he needs to forgive himself and let go but not forget. Abby learns that her old life wasn’t what she wanted. That she wasn’t really living but being. She was trying to just fit in and not being herself. Hunter helps her see this. So does being in Honeysuckle ridge fixing up the house and trying to make it what it once was and making friends and finding love.
I won an ARC of the book and absolutely loved it.
Abby Everhardt arrives in the hills of NC to claim the farm left to her by her great aunt she hadn’t seen in years. She’s lost everything in LA thanks to her ex-husband and his lawyer girlfriend. This is her chance to get back on top by selling the farm. She discovers she’s only inherited the farm house that needs a lot of work and the land is left to her neighbor Hunter.
Hunter McKenzie is a vet who has never gotten over the death of his best friend in combat. He just wants to be left alone with his wood carvings and dog Wolf. Once Abby enters the picture, Hunter’s life is uprooted and unwillingly gets involved in all her plans.
As in all Debbie’s series, the secondary characters add so much to the story and makes you want the book to never end. Love Highland Falls, can’t wait for Mallory and Sadie’s stories!
A 3.5 stars story.
Highland Falls, NC is where we get to meet Abby Everhart and Hunter MacKenzie.
She was media influencer from LA who , after a divorce from her husband , went from riches to rags. When she gets a letter telling her she’s inherited a farm in Highland Falls, she sees this as the opportunity to make a quick buck. Put it on the market and go back to LA.
But she never expected to meet Hunter MacKenzie. The man who thought he would inherit the farm, a former decorated soldier and now a hermit whose devastating past has kept him isolated.
Though the storyline was at times funny as well as touching, I felt that Abby was all over the place, too wrap in herself and the “glamour” of YouTube , frequently at the expense of others. Which, for me, made it line a “stop and go” story. Meaning when I started to like her, she did something that just was not right and then back into doing something sweet. This did not encourage me to like her very much. Hunter on the other side, was a very likable character that I believe should have had a more prominent part in the story.
Still , a good story to pass the time.
I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Forever. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
