Summer of Suspense has some of my favorite authors contributing this great collection. Since I recently attended an event with authors Vannetta Chapman and Rachel J. Good present I read their contributions first.
Vannetta Chapman tale Fading Into the Night setting was in Shipshewana, IN. Ben Lapp sure didn’t expect any to be trying to save his Amish community from a terrorist attack. I felt like I was right in the midst of his travels with the Agent Nora Brooks as they went to the Bishop. When will Dash be spotted with his wanderings around the area with no electronic signals in Amish Country?
I was thrilled to hear that Rachel J. Good’s contribution featured beloved characters Benuel and Mari in Wedding Day Revenge. As their wedding day was near, Mari was uneasy with threats being received that sounded like her twin sister who was in prison. This tale was enthralling thinking a conclusion was coming only to lead into more unexpected events that kept me on the edge of my seat until I was finished.
I’m looking forward to reading every other tale in this marvelous suspense collection by so many gifted authors. I appreciate the wide variety of genres that each author is known for.
I’m so glad I pre-ordered Summer of Suspense. I highly recommend this collection to fans of suspense.
What a great collection of stories! Every author in this collection is an accomplished author. I loved the variety of stories in this collection. Two of my favorite stories were by Vannetta Chapman and Rachel Good. This book is quite the bargain, and the stories are short enough that you can read one in a setting. I’m hoping this same group of authors collaborates on another collection again. Just the right blend of suspense and romance. Don’t miss it!
action-adventure, suspense, supernatural, superstitions, mystery
I’m not really done with it, but if Inscription: Relic Hunters Taskforce by Ruth Hartzler is any indication, I will wind up with my nose stuck in the rest of the 1000 pages! Inscription is an intro into a new series about an ancient Greek scholar who becomes involved with the good guys who are tasked with protection of certain artifacts with a supernatural provenance. Excellent!
I truly enjoyed this book of 16 mystery/suspense novellas. So many great page turning stories by several authors I have read before and several by new to me authors. I really loved that included a few Amish stories in there as well.
If you are looking for a great beach or weekend read, this is your book!
Summer Of Suspense: Sixteen tales by some of Christian Fiction most popular authors.
Wow , a collection . There are sixteen authors that went together to write sixteen different novellas . All these are suspense, mystery, Amish , fictional, good and clean novellas. I enjoyed all of them . There were a few authors that I had not read anything from , but I enjoyed them. I was not disappointed. These novellas will keep you up way in the night reading . They are short stories so you can read them pretty quick.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Sixteen stories written by an All Star lineup of Christian writers. All summer readers were given glimpses of the stories within. Finally it was released!
I had to start with Vannetta Chapman’s Fading Into the Night. This story introduces us to Nora Brooks and Benjamin Lapp. What happens when a cyber terrorist hides in Amish country? Follow along as both worlds work together to solve the conflict and save the day.
This story promises to be the beginning of more from this community. With the excellence of this story, I cannot wait to read what’s next.
If you like inspirational suspense, here’s a keeper for you. Sixteen, count ’em, SIXTEEN, tales of suspense. Short novellas that can easily be read in just a short amount of time, they are sure to be pleasing to suspense fans. I had read only three of these authors before, Mary Alford, Ruth Logan Herne and Loree Lough, but thoroughly enjoyed the offerings by others. The one by Elizabeth Ludwig was especially suspenseful. Highly recommended.
*My thanks to one of the authors for a preview copy of this book. The opinion here is my own.
Great collection of short stories!
A very moving and fast pace…filled with fear, danger and suspense…I was totally captivated page after page.
Every single story in this book of sixteen held me spellbound. All were different, but each was a page turner. I had read some of the authors, but a few were new to me. They were all thoroughly entertaining.
Summer of Suspense is a fantastic collection of short stories from sixteen different authors. It featured some old favorites and many who were new to me, quite a few of which are now going on my wishlist. A few of my absolute favorites were Afterglow by Christy Barritt, Fading into the Night by Vannetta Chapman, On the Run by Debby Guisti, and Murder in Sugarcreek by Serena B. Miller. But, really, I enjoyed the vast majority of the stories. There were a few that weren’t really my cup of tea, but I’m sure others will enjoy them.
Afterglow (Lantern Beach Escape, Book One) by Christy Barritt
In Lantern Beach for their honeymoon, Grayson finds out that his new wife just might be a murderer. The Rachel he knows would never be capable of murder, but apparently there’s secrets she doesn’t want shared. As an investigative reporter, he vows to get to the bottom of it all and find out the truth about his wife.
Afterglow is another compelling and impossible to put down story from Christy Barritt. It completely held my attention and even after finishing it, I’m still thinking about it. I can’t forget to mention the cameos from a couple of original Lantern Beach characters. Loved seeing them pop up.
Fading into the Night by Vannetta Chapman
A cyber terrorist is planning a devastating attack and Nora Brooks is sent to stop him. She thinks she’s found him at an Amish farm in Shipshewana. But who she actually finds is the farm owner Benjamin Lapp. He agrees to help her find the madman before the terrorist’s plan can go into effect.
I don’t read much Amish fiction, but maybe I should. This was so good! One of my favorites in the collection. There was a great sense of urgency from beginning to end that had me speeding through the pages.
On the Run by Debby Giusti
Annalise Bonner is staying at her sister’s house when her niece’s baby monitor picks up a signal from the next door neighbor’s system. What she hears, and then sees when she looks out the window, chills her, sending her on a mad dash run for her life.
This story grabbed me and didn’t let go until the exciting conclusion. Loved the characters, the chase, pretty much everything about it. What a stellar suspense. I want more!
Murder in Sugarcreek (An Accidental Adventure of Doreen Sizemore) by Serena B. Miller
This was the shortest story in the collection and the funniest. It had a cozy mystery-vibe to it which was a nice change of pace. I adored Doreen. She’s a spunky 70-something year old lady who gets roped into accompanying her cousin Nola Belle into meeting her new out-of-state boyfriend. Along the way she stumbles upon a mystery.
This had me literally laughing out loud. Doreen is something else! What a hoot! I haven’t laughed that hard or that much in a long time. It was just what I needed. I’m definitely gonna be checking out the other books featuring Doreen.
I was SO excited when I saw, MONTHS AGO, that several of my favorite authors were putting together an anthology of suspense and mysteries. Summer of Suspense was everything and more that I was expecting, as far as the quality of the stories. In fact, I was pre-ordering the next books in the series as I finished stories. It’s always exciting when authors start new mystery/suspense series! It was also fun getting to see old friends making cameo appearances in some of the stories. I had pre-purchase the iBook version for myself, and the Kindle version for my mom. Then I had the opportunity to get a early reviewer copy!!! *HappyDance!!! Every story is a keeper and I’m looking forward to reading the books over and over again!
BREAKOUT.by Samantha Price, love her Amish books, and in this she is writing in a different category. The harshness of prison, and jewels, especially diamonds give her a high, a mistake in love, she now is in prison.
Action packed, and prequel to Jewel ?Thief series.
CODE PINK – STOLEN.BABY.by.Patricia Bradley
Was it fate for him to come by after the accident, only the sound of an infant that was alive was heard. A quick thought of his wife, hanging on by an edge losing their son. A mother, still looking after five years. A new software, of what her son would look like. A new detective studying the cold case. Would he be the miracle. It pulls you in when a child is missing the love of a mother. These are two in this set.
Great selection to read one or all, will let you find new authors.
Every one of these sixteen short mystery stories was a captivating read!
(I have received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and have reviewed this with my own opinion!)
Summer of Suspense by 16 different Christian Authors. thought this whole entire book series was a great read and it definitely kept you on your toes through each story!
The story I will be reviewing is Storm Warnings by Mary Alford
A CIA agent in hiding and on the run, for a serious crime that she didn’t commit. Right from page 1 this story had my attention. As the story goes on you learn about her past, what happened, and in the end find out who is to blame! It was definitely a page turner and I loved it!
Summer of Suspense is a little gold mine. This anthology contains 16 Christian suspense stories from contemporary authors. Great buy! I won’t detail every story; I do not want to give away too much. But one general observation is that the stories are very suspenseful. It is amazing how much suspense and romance these writers can pack into these well-crafted short stories. There is good variety, from CIA characters to Amish farmers. People with physical disabilities are also integral to several stories, including a Multiple Sclerosis patient and a bridgegroom who happens to be blind. Personally, I loved the involvement of St. Bernard Samson in Alford’s story. I did catch a grammar gaffe; on page 63, the word should be pored, not poured. ; ) But I am now following Alford on Faebook, as well as subscribing to her newsletter. I am sure that every reader will have their favorites, mine being Mary Alford and Serena B. Williams. In contrast, I didn’t care for Mehl’s stories, which I found a little preachy about feminist issues – which was a surprise in this Christian collection. There are several for whom I will be looking for other works! Besides the enjoyment of reading good Christian fiction, another benefit of books like this, is that we are introduced to new authors!
Sixteen stories to devour for a few days or more of happy enjoyment are all in one package. Several have Amish undertones or story lines but within modern settings. This set will take you all over the globe. All stories are previously unpublished by these Christian suspense authors. Some introduce you to characters in other books as a sample of their work.
Grab a glass of your favorite summer beverage while you treat yourself to stellar mysteries from authors both known and new.
What a great collection of suspense stories! Each one was filled with suspense and action. Every author brings a unique style of writing and unique story. From the Amish mysteries to guns and bullets flying to a brave granny praying over a thug, the stories and characters are amazing. I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required.
Holy Cow! What can be better than 8 great books? How ‘bout 8 great books for $0.99!
This was a wonderful anthology of short mysteries by various authors. Some of the stories were simply breathtaking while others tended to be easier to solve. I especially liked Christy Barritt’s “Afterglow” and “Death in Earthenware Vessels” by Shaen Mehl.
This is a set of sixteen suspense novellas that are all fantastic. Some are all suspense and others are full of romance and suspense. There are 16 Christian authors in this book. I knew most of the authors but a few were new to me. These stories definitely made me want to read a lot more of these authors books. I received a copy of this book from the author for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
