“Refreshing and heartwarming…A delicious summer read.” ~Dete Meserve, award-winning and bestselling author of GOOD SAM—a Netflix Original Film—and The Kate Bradley Mystery series
The blossom of first love meets the golden ember of last love in this heartwarming novel of hope and second chances.
Shelby, at sweet sixteen, finds herself without friends, a place to call home, and still waiting for … friends, a place to call home, and still waiting for her first kiss. At the mercy of yet another move, she’s left to spend the summer with her grandmother at Moonwater Lake. Theo, a widowed, elderly man in town suggests she start a dog-walking business. Sometimes all it takes is one bright idea and an abundance of dogs to bond two unlikely friends and show them that dreams can still come true.
Theo is grieving the precious memories of his fifty-year marriage. If not for his aging beagle, Wally, he wouldn’t have a reason to get out of bed in the morning, much less go for walks. Theo is pleasantly surprised by his awakened feelings of hope, after crossing paths with Shelby and her grandmother.
It’s turning out to be a summer of many things; a summer of healing and starting over. A summer of friendship and unconditional love that will remind Shelby, Theo, and the town of Moonwater Lake that it’s never too late for second chances.

I really enjoyed reading this book! The characters were wonderful and I felt like I was right there with them at Moonwater Lake.
This is a story about how helping others who are alone and grieving and are shown care, that it can help everyone involved. It can even bring a community, and individuals that are meant to be, together.
A conclusion that can be drawn from this story is that everyone deserves to have a second chance in their life with love and happiness as they want it.
Shelby has always bounced from city to city with her mother, not giving her a chance to gain friendships or find a place to call home. When she is told that she will be spending the summer months with her grandmother at Moonwater Lake, she goes begrudgingly but will it be the opportunity that she needs to find a home. Andrea Hurst takes us on a heartwarming adventure as we spend the summer in Moonwater Lake and are asked the question are second chances possible? I loved this story about friendship and family. The relationships and the characters kept me wanting to keep reading.
Delightful!

Moonwater Lake is a lovely place for second chances.Lovely Characters, sweet theme with the dogs that bring everyone together.Sweet read , calming and content feeling while reading .
Wow. It’s one of the best books I’ve ever read.
It has stayed with me and had me reflecting on myself, my young love experience. I’m a huge dog fan. My seniors are my world. I worried about Wally in this book, because I can identify. All of the characters tugged on my heartstrings. I was rooting for all of their happiness, especially Theo, Alice & Shelby. I love the description of the town of Moonwater Lake. I want to live there! The friendship and support they had is like no other, not to mention a sweet, small town with a lake! I also like the format of starting out with the prologue, reading their stories and then the epilogue!
Completely in love with this book!.
Andrea Hurst you’ve done it again. What a beautiful, heart felt story. Great summer beach read, or anytime of year read. This story covers all the feelings. So happy to have been given this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is a beautifully written, heartfelt book about second chances. A couple days before the end of her sophomore year of high school in Las Vegas, Shelby’s mom announces she is going on a trip to Florida with her current boyfriend and Shelby is going to be dropped off at her Grandmother’s house in Moonwater Lake, California. Shelby begs to stay a few more days so she can finish up the school year, but that isn’t going to happen because then her mother will have pay another month of rent. Shelby considers running way, but with no place to go, she decided spending time with her grandmother won’t be so bad. Shelby has changed schools many times and never lived anywhere long enough to make many friends. Her father died when she was very young and she and her mother have moved many times, often based on her mother’s latest boyfriend.
This is a delightful story of second changes and the value of friendships and family. At the end of the book, there is a bonus of the recipes for all the delicious good that has been prepared throughout the story!
Andrea Hurst writes stories that are refreshing , heartwarming, clean and wholesome. This one is no exception.
I was thinking that Shelby was going to be spending a fun summer with her
Grandmother as I started to read. Since her Mom was leaving her there as she went off with the new boyfriend. Moonwater Lake was so much more. Residents of all ages, even dogs of all ages. Each needing stability, a friend, someone that cares, that special person that makes you smile. A second chance at New beginnings. This book was so heartwarming.
Relax and enjoy this delightful story.
I received an ARC prior to publication and decided to voluntarily review it. Thank you Andrea Hurst.
This heartwarming book offers a look into some of the lives of the residents of Moonlake. No matter young, old or for that matter even a dog, they all need something or someone to bring back a sense of caring and love into their lives. With a new purpose they are drawn together and learn they can take a second chance at living and loving again.
Thank you Author, Andrea Hurst, for an ARC of this book.
The review and comments are my honest opinion.
