Mitch Taylor and Rebecca Sorenson share a secret. Rebecca’s job as secretary of Cascade Elementary, the same school she attended as a child, is rewarding. She has a great group of friends, many of whom are married now. And if sometimes she wished it were her up there in that sparkling white dress… Except, wait—she did get to wear bridal white. Granted, it was a slinky party dress and the … and the justice of the peace was Elvis in a gold lame jacket, but still, the deed was done.
She’d tied the knot.
Mitch Taylor doesn’t do regrets. It would be a waste of energy bemoaning the mistakes he’d made in his life. The end of his promising football career taught him nothing in life was a guarantee.
Like love.
What were the chances two people from the same po-dunk town in Washington would end up together in a nightclub in Las Vegas? A few too many drinks later, a hasty ceremony performed by the king of rock ‘n’ roll, and they’d been hitched. The night that followed lived on in his dreams, but when he’d woken the next morning she was gone.
Can these two mismatched lovers find a way past their mistakes, or will they keep their lonely hearts forever guarded?

First of all, I loved Mitch. And my heart went out to the two boys who lost their mother and was given to their mean, alcoholic uncle to raise. A lot of angst was put into a short novella. Good job! All of the characters were keepers, but I think I was at a disadvantage coming into the fifth story in the Wounded Hearts series. I just didn’t know most of them enough and kept stumbling over questions that were probably answered in a previous book. I could guess about most of them, but I really wish I’d understood how both Mitch and his once friend, Jack, both lost their football careers because of Jack’s ex-wife. And I’d have liked a little more background on why Rebecca ran after marrying Mitch in Vegas. But this sure made for a pleasant evening of reading.
This is a positively enchanting story about second-chance romance. Five years ago, Rebecca Sorenson and Mitch Taylor said “I do” in Vegas after partying in a night club. They’ve been separated ever since and now Rebecca is one step shy of signing divorce papers. Does she love Mitch? Of course—if she’d only wise up and admit her feelings. Does he love her? He never stopped, but she walked out of his life.
Part of the fun of this book is watching this made-for-each-other couple go through a tug of war of feelings. But there’s far more to Summer Lovin’ than an HEA romance. Biggar layers her book with a subplot involving two young boys remanded to the custody of their alcoholic and abusive uncle. When Rebecca’s life becomes entwined with the boys, danger follows close behind.
One thing you can always count on from this author is a heartwarming story that leaves you with a warm glow long after you’ve finished the story. She knows how to tug heartstrings and create characters who feel like friends and family. Male and female characters are handled with equal ease and the writing is breezy and polished. I had to re-read several passages just for the enjoyment of the author’s clever turn of phrase. This book is part of a series but is also perfect as a stand-alone. A thoroughly entertaining read!
Very enjoyable diversion from the standard “got drunk and married in Vegas” romance where the main characters find themselves married the following day and either decide to give it a try or they separate until the woman finds out she is preggars.
In this story the two main characters, Rebecca and Mitch knew each other in high school and the Vegas marriage happened 5 years ago. The heroine is gone the next morning and they have been separated ever since, but neither has filed for divorce. They live in the same town but stay far away from each other. Until this story begins when they keep getting thrown together.
Rebecca is a secretary at the local school and after school one day she helps out a kid with his bike, the kids guardian comes looking for him and yells at him for being late and gets pushy with both Tommy and Rebecca. Mitch shows up and defends Rebecca. After that there are some more run ins with the same guy. There are some tie ins with Rebecca’s friends and with Mitch’s past. It is all very good drama. Much better than I expected. No steamy sex, but a very good romance and intricate for how short it is.
Another great story from the Wounded Hearts series by Jacquie Biggar. I love how Mitch is the black sheep of the Taylor family yet tugs at my heart strings. Rebecca thinks she knows what she wants but it isn’t until she’s in grave danger that she sees the truth. Tommy’s so-called uncle is a real piece of work and I hated his guts. Lol!
If you love romantic suspense with a sexy bad boy and an equally defiant heroine, please pick up this story. It makes the perfect beach read.
My Rating: 5 stars
“Summer Lovin” is set in Tidal Falls like the four previous books in the series. Rebecca had a crush on Mitch back in high school. They ran into each other in Las Vegas and ended up married. Rebecca leaves the next morning, and they didn’t stay together. Five years later, they are still married and run into each other again in Tidal Falls. I love how she fights her obvious feelings for him and how Mitch is still there when she needs him. It’s great to see all the wonderful couples from past books and the interest they take in this couple. Although, it’s the side story that captures my heart of a young boy Rebecca runs into at the school she works. His story, and Rebecca’s concern, made this a fantastic read I didn’t want to put down. Another great addition to the Wounded Hearts series, and I can’t wait to move on to the next book!
A beautifully written story about estranged lovers as well as old friends. I always enjoy returning to Tidal Falls! This newest story in the Wounded Hearts series is a welcome addition. Mitch and Rebecca battle complicated pasts including a secret that only the two of them know ñ a secret that finally unites them while battling to help two young boys and defeat a cruel enemy (or two). Action, wit, and heartfelt emotion infuse every page of this beautifully written story about estranged lovers as well as old friends.
