Do you remember the best summer of your life?New York City, 1945. Marjorie Jacobson and her best friend, Marty Garrett, arrive fresh from the Kappa house at the University of Iowa hoping to find summer positions as shopgirls. Turned away from the top department stores, they miraculously find jobs as pages at Tiffany & Co., becoming the first women to ever work on the sales floor–a … diamond-filled day job replete with Tiffany blue shirtwaist dresses from Bonwit Teller’s–and the envy of all their friends.
Hart takes us back to the magical time when she and Marty rubbed elbows with the rich and famous; pinched pennies to eat at the Automat; experienced nightlife at La Martinique; and danced away their weekends with dashing midshipmen. Between being dazzled by Judy Garland’s honeymoon visit to Tiffany, celebrating VJ Day in Times Square, and mingling with Cafe society, she fell in love, learned unforgettable lessons, made important decisions that would change her future, and created the remarkable memories she now shares with all of us.

Very cute read about an incredible “once in a lifetime” summer spent working for Tiffany & Co. in NYC. Interesting enough on it’s own, but add in that it was during the summer of 1945 with all the war-time events, and you have a great story! A young college student from Iowa and her best friend head to NYC to find summer jobs, and end up landing …
Love the history behind the book.
I loved this look of New York in the 40’s & an in-depth look at Tiffany’s.
FUN EASY READ
Truly representational of the way a young girl would view the experience depicted.
An easy read. From the perspective of an Iowa college student spending one summer in the Big Apple working. Interesting.
Mostly the kind of book you write for your grandkids. Not worth paying for if you’re not related.
This was a fun, fast story with great characters. Really enjoyed it.
1940’s Quick read!
I loved the historical value of women in the 1940’s!
An short, entertaining, light read that captures the adventures of two young college women who were the first females to work at the Tiffany store in NYC for the summer. It gives the reader a glimpse of a bygone era of formality and naïveté. I particularly enjoyed the read because I work for Tiffany & Co at one time.
Such a fun autobiography about a young summer in New York.
A fun read. Nostalgic reminders of 1950’s
Summer at Tiffany is Marjorie Hart’s delightful, fast, fun, nostalgic memoir of the summer of 1945, when she and her best friend, Marty Garrett, traveled to New York City for the summer and became the first women to ever work at Tiffany’s. (Yes, as in, little blue box baubles.) Not only did she and Marty make history becoming the first women ever …
Interesting peak at life for 2 girls who took a chance to live their dreams.
Sweet, nostalgic summer story of college girls in NYC during wartime.
Great real life glimpse of two young girls during war time.
Loved this book. I found the historical aspect very interesting. Very easy to like the main girls and share their adventure!
Taught me so much about life in a different time at one of my favorite stores! Tiffany!
Delightful read!
