A hot, funny brother’s best friend rom com . . . with sugar on top!
She’s his best friend’s little sister. He’s known her all his life. He’s practically part of the family. There is nothing either of them could do to surprise the other at this point. Then she showed up in his bedroom in lingerie and asked him to take her V-card.
Okay, that was a surprise.
Aiden is pretty sure Zoe was equally … pretty sure Zoe was equally surprised when he told her no.
To say that he didn’t handle it well would be a massive understatement. Almost as massive as the amount of work he’s going to have to do now to convince her that he wants her. Forever.
Right after he tells her that he’s bought the company that’s her bakery’s biggest competitor.
Maybe if he tells her he’s in love with her first, that will help sugarcoat the whole we’re-rivals-in-business-now thing.
So, first “I’m in love with you”, then “take off your clothes”, then “I’m now your business adversary”.
Sure. Piece of cake.

Great book
Liked but a little slow moving.
This story was so good! And I loved how their love was always meant to be and how there was no false angst about it! Now I look forward to Dax’s story!
Still reading the book.
Cute story. Loved Aidens dirty talk. But honestly until the end I found Zoe hard headed and a little obnoxious. Like I get family feuds and grudges but people can learn things for themselves. And she was so dead set against change that it was always a problem.
Book 1 in the Hot Cakes series by Erin Nicholas and I loved it. Great brother’s best friends to lovers Loved the dynamic between Aiden and Zoe. They had great chemistry between them. Lili and Jason really brought them to life and made the story very enjoyable and a real pleasure to listen to. Loved this story so much.
Audio Review
What a sweet friends to lovers story. Zoe has known Aiden most of her life, he is practically family as he is her brothers best friend and he was always around. When she decides it is time to give up her V card she wants Aiden to be the one to teach her some things. Problem is he turned her down. Aiden has feelings for Zoe and he isn’t going to deflower her until he can get his life in order and come home and let her know how he feels. Problem is he has a secret that could destroy not only their future but their friendship as well.
Jason Clarke and Lili Valente were great as Aiden and Zoe. Loved listening to both of them.
I can already tell that I’m going to love this series. Sugarcoated was a fun, brother’s best friend, second-chance romance with two adorable characters. Zoe had propositioned her brother’s best friend to take her virginity and he turned her down. When he returns to town, he’s determined to rectify his mistake and claim Zoe as his own, but there are a few obstacles in the way, including Zoe.
Zoe is a strong, independent woman running her family’s bakery. She’s determined to make her bakery a success but she’s resistant to change. With Aiden’s help, she begins to get the courage to make some changes, but when she finds out that he now owns her competition, will she be able to forgive him?
Aiden is a hot, successful businessman who has rearranged his life so he can come back to town and sweep Zoe off his feet. He is a little dense at times, but that just makes him more loveable. He’s totally swoonworthy.
These two were hot together and it was a fun journey watching them figure things out. Their quirky friends just added to my enjoyment and I can’t wait for them to find their happy endings. Sugarcoated was a great beginning to a new series and I’m looking forward to spending more time in this small town!
Really was excited for a new series from Erin Nicholas & the first book did not disappoint!!
Adding this to the TBR list.
Okay, I admit up front I’m not a fan of heroines giving up their virginity in romance so when I read the description I was a meh. But my gf told me I had to read it and I’m glad I did. A sweet, small town tale with well drawn characters and a great set up to build the series ahead. I’ll be keeping reading.
Loved this book!
All the feels and laughter Erin Nicholas is best at. And real feelings and emotions that aren’t always pretty. I loved this story from start to finish.
Great start to a delicious series!
A NEW SERIES FROM ERIN NICHOLAS!!! It’s in caps because I’m shouting with excitement! Highly recommended! Read on…
Sugarcoated is the first book in the new Hot Cakes series by Erin Nicholas, and she has the BEST recipe for sexy, swoony, sassy small town romance! If you haven’t read Erin Nicholas before, you’re missing out on SO many levels!
The residents of the rural town of Appleby, Iowa have stolen my heart with their hilarious, stubborn, laugh-out-loud personalities. Everyone we’ve met is so darn LIKABLE, you’re just rooting for them right from the start.
So yes…I love LOVED this book – brother’s best friend is SUCH a fabulous trope, and we’ve got a little friends-to-lovers twist here too. There’s the perfect balance of slow burn & steam to keep those pages turning. You can’t help but love Zoe – she’s sweet, loyal and proud. Aiden is returning to his small-town roots with big plans for settling down, protecting the town’s economy, and winning Zoe’s heart.
I had lots of giggles with the baking terms tossed around in the dialogue and definitely enjoyed not only the steamy fun but the serious ’m thrilled beyond words that we have more sticky sweet Hot Cakes goodness coming our way, and I can’t wait to see the remaining bachelors meet their matches!
My general rating rationale:
3 – Perfectly fine story, perhaps some minor editorial errors. Entertaining. Typically with this rating I feel like there could have been MORE – be it believably/relatability, character development, internal dialogue, explanations or depth, richness to the overall storyline, etc. May lose a bit of engagement here and there but always finish reading.
4 – A very good book. Engaging, with well-developed characters, a great plot, relatable scenarios; keeps you invested to the last page. Would recommend to reader friends.
5 – Can’t say enough amazing things, loved the characters, fabulously detailed plot, a quick hook, intense investment in both story and characters (including supporting characters) throughout the book. Will tell anyone who will listen that they should read it (if they won’t listen, I’ll be louder).
This book was amazing! Loved Zoe and Aiden and their story! I couldn’t put it down:) Highly recommend.
Absolutely loved it!
