What a fun read! Sugar Daddy, and the Travis Series, is Lisa Kleypas steamy contemporary romance at her best.
I heard it in audio. The only way to go.
Rating: 4.5
I finally read the first book in the Travis Family series and I have to say I liked it, not sure why I was so afraid.
One of my all time favorite stories. I first read Sugar Daddy when it first came out. Rather odd in a way. I don’t generally like a lot of discription nor first person point of view, yet this story does it so well, I hardly noticed that was the case. The conversations are straight forward and all of it moves the story forward. The characterization is spot in throughout. I am not Texian so I can’t really say if those particular discriptions are accurate. If they are or aren’t it was entertaining at it’s best.
This story has been a favorite of mine for many years. I just had to listen to it. I am not disappointed.
A well rounded story that begins when Liberty is very young. We are more than halfway through before her love story really gets going. This is a novel!
This story along with the others in this series does stand alone and does not have a cliffhanger. If you find, like I did, you don’t want to say goodbye, read on with Blue-eyed Devil
Highly recommended.
This was a wonderful story about a little girl growing up in west Texas. She falls in love with the boy next door and he can’t wait to get out of the trailer park and see the world. They both had a lot of growing up to do before they meet again and it was worth waiting for. Funny, moving, and just an all around good story that I have reread several times and could recommend to anyone. Do your self a favor and watch what happens when Roudy. Cates grows up and comes calling!
I came to this book with some reservations because of the title, but ended up really liking it. In the beginning, when Liberty meets Hardy, I found some of the descriptions of her feelings for him to be so intense I had to put the book down and come back to it later. The overall plot outside of the love story was probably only a 4/5, but that sometimes happens. All-in-all, a very enjoyable book, and I really loved the heroine.
A good contemporary romance by an author who is perhaps better known for her historicals.
love Lisa Kleypas. Her books are original. The characters are always great, and you get completely lost in her books. I know a book is good, when I don’t want it to end, but I cannot wait to find out what happens next. Just hope another one is coming out soon!
I do admit I prefer Kleypas more historical romances versus the modern ones. This book still had her wonderful writing style. It was an enjoyable read – she always puts those little twists in the plot to get you hooked.
One of the best contemporary romances I have ever read.
I have read all of Lisa Kleypas’s historical novels, and was intrigued by how she would present a contemporary romance. There is a lot of back-story and what you think should happen; doesn’t. And what you thought you wanted to happen, won’t. But that’s okay. The characters were complex, and I was drawn along with their development. It was heartbreaking at times, and moving at others. I particularly loved the Houston setting, and the accurate representation of the culture. It is an engaging read, one you wont be able to put down.
A couple of my favorite authors are huge fans of Lisa Kleypas so when I think I’m slowly headed up to a major reading slump, I decided to give this author a go. And JFC, I feel like celebrating love and life after this one read. Call me goofball but I stand by that statement.
First of all, Liberty Jones is hands-down one of the best contemporary romance heroine I’ve ever met. Even at the early age of fourteen and something months, she’s as wise and as graceful as a full-grown woman. And the older she became, the more beautiful she became.
The way she took care of her much younger sister, never once resenting her mom or Carrington, but instead taking on the responsibility with such love and kindness.
The way she set Hardy free to go his own way, no matter how much she wanted him to stay with her…but she knew too well he needed to do that for himself. Even though she knew how much power she had over him-and that is to make him not leave her-she had the selflessness and elegance of a self-secured and emotionally matured woman. Even though, the idea of him pretty much ruined all men for her. Except one, but that’s a point for later.
The way she dealt with some people and their poor judgement and misconception at the idea of her befriending a much older, uber rich widower.
Long story short, I’m in complete awe. I have a girl crush on her, borderline heroine-worship. Heck, this read is pretty much symbolic esp since International Women’s Day was just two days ago. And I applaud and thank the author for such a woman that is more than deserving of celebration.
Gage kind of grew on me. Though he started out rough, what with accusing the heroine of banging his father, he eventually earned Liberty’s love and trust (and at the same time my respect). He def is worthy of her when he respected her decision to keep and open mind with Hardy. I admit it takes a strong and emotionally mature man to set your loved one free.
Side note: It takes a wiser man to acknowledge the history between Liberty and Hardy.
Honestly, I thought I would be torn to two equal halves when it came to Gage and Hardy but the latter’s convenient appearance and his line of questioning did put me on edge.
Suffice to say, I’m now far fonder of Gage. Actually, in the middle of the read, I went and checked the blurb of the next book and was aghast to know who was the hero in that book. Now, after finishing this one, I’m still super wary but due to an entirely different reason.
Always love Lisa
I enjoyed reading Sugar Daddy, it was endearing in that you were always rooting for the main character. She had good instincts and common sense.
Wondeelly engaging read. Heartwarming romance.
Not at all what I was expecting! But the title does indicate what Ms Kleypas wanting you to keep in mind. The story deals primarily with the struggles that Liberty has growing up in a trailer park with her single mother in Texas. Once Liberty realizes her dreams of becoming independent of her past, she then finds her lost lover Hardy. But will she decide to stay with her sugar daddy or go to Hardy.
Lisa Kleypas provides us with a wonderful story that draws you into the lives of the characters. You will laugh, cry and rejoice along with them.
Totally not what I expected.
I loved this book!
Good story!
