Such a fun book!!!
This is the first book in the Suddenly Susan Saga and will keep you in stitches. What fun, this book is hilarious. Susan Wade is ready to graduate and has no job prospects. We follow her antics and her quirky way she deals with life. Ends with a cliffhanger. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review.
Kind of uncommon even for the Northwestern bsckground. Usually you need a MBA and a dual degree to get a top tier job after you intern with them not to mention a getting a signing bonus.
Loved it!
Susan’s life isn’t going like she thought it would. After all that time in college, Corporate America isn’t as eager to hire Susan as she thought they would be. She needs experience but where to get it? With Ben who isn’t what she would call ‘relationship material’ in the bowels of Texas or manager a small diner in the town she is living in now? Then one night everything changes….but how? You will need to read the book to find out. I voluntarily reviewed a free ARC of this book.
I enjoyed this book. Susan Wade is a very funny character. I wasn’t thrilled with all the cussing in the book. However I loved the sarcastic quips.
This is my first Virginia Gray book but you can bet it won’t be my last. A truly fun tale, this story had me up WAY past my bedtime to find out what was going to happen next. If you’re looking for your next great romcom, pick up a copy of Suddenly Susan!
Really great book…. very enjoyable read!
This was a Christmas gift I received. This is the first book I’ve read by Virgina Gray and it didn’t disappoint. Great intro to Susan Wades life. Looking forward to the rest of the saga.

I read this book after reading The Carrot and absolutely loving it, and was not disappointed at all. It is refreshingly witty and superbly optimistic, and I think my appreciation for The Interview was actually heightened by having read The Carrot first. This short novel is a delightful precursor to the meatier second book, and the perfect introduction to the ever-hilarious Susan Wade. A must-read.
Powerful young women build each other up and take each other apart.
A challenging coming of age for a Southern girl trying to make it Up North.
Friendly foes end up sort of frenemies.
A fun read for young women power player wanabees who can laugh at
themselves, and the hard work they did to get wherever they are today.
I received advanced copies of this book from Instafreebie and AXPreaderland.
Its well worth the read!
I could not get into this book so I never finished. Too many other books to read!
Didnt like it.
some F words, leaves you hanging, her character goes downhill
This book was very short and felt that way. It would have benefited from expanding on ideas and plot points.
It was short, so it has that going for it. Didn’t really care what happened to Susan. She is graduating from college and trying to get a job at a top computer firm. She is alternately portrayed as kind of naive but she would do some kind of savvy things, maybe by accident? Natural instinct? Who knows? Who cares? She has a guy buddy who likes her but she doesn’t like him that way. But she totally leads him on for no reason in particular. She has a roommate that she seems to know nothing about, but they don’t get along. She has a rival in her class-they hate each other but not really sure why. Of course at the end all the females make peace, and Susan “breaks up with” the guy who has found a real girlfriend that likes him. And this was supposed to be HILARIOUS. But there was nothing funny in it-what was I supposed to find hilarious? Don’t waste your time.
After all the rave reviews I read, I was excited to start this book. Maybe, I’m just not into this book or in a mood….I did not find this book laugh out loud funny or that hilarious. It had its moments..but few and far between.
Susan’s relationship with Ben was one of familiarity, a pal, a lab partner, but not a boyfriend. Her real relationship that had depth was with Lexi, her purple haired roomie.
The job hunting scares were dead on realistic as was the fear of loans and being jobless. This book was at its best when dealing with the fear of failure, the fear your parents won’t come to see you graduate, the fear of interviewing, it happens.
Her last interview and the way it went was pure karma…work hard no matter where or doing what….because the person hiring might actually have worked his or her butt off also.
Susan was not a deeply developed character, it was hard to connect to her as a person I’d care about whereas Lexi was someone I just loved at the end.
This was more if a prequel than a first novel and I’m not sure I’ll continue on with the series. It just wasn’t my kind of read. For the twenty and thirty year olds, maybe relating to Susan is easier.
I try never to leave a negative review…after all an author has poured his/her hard work and blood, sweat and tears into a book. However that being said, I didn’t like this book as much as I thought I was going to and the length of it (158 pages) was disappointing. It must have been a couple days between downloading this book and reading it so i didn’t realize this was Book 1 in Susan’s life. As most books are 300+ pages I felt like this was the length of a novella and that it just stopped.
Amusing look into a college students aim to get the best job, finish college with perfect grades, not break the heart of her best friend and to make peace with her roommate.
