A Paranormal Women’s Fiction with a bit of class and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!Every woman goes through changes in their forties. Just not… these changes.Robin Brannon was a normal wife, mom, and antique-shop owner until a brush with death turned her day-to-day life upside down. Now she and her two best friends are seeing things that belong in a fantasy … things that belong in a fantasy novel. Ghosts. Visions. Omens of doom. Nothing that belongs in the peaceful mountain town they call home.
Added to that, Robin’s marriage is on the rocks, her grandmother’s health is failing, her mother is driving away the customers at her shop, her teenage daughter refuses to get her driver’s license, and her left knee aches every darn morning.
Robin doesn’t have the time, energy, or knees to unearth the secrets buried at the bottom of Glimmer Lake, but fate doesn’t seem to care. Some secrets are just dying to be exposed.
Suddenly Psychic is stand-alone paranormal women’s fiction and the first book in the Glimmer Lake series by USA Today best seller, Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Elemental Mysteries.
more
Suddenly Psychic is my first Elizabeth Hunter novel and I can’t wait to continue my exploration. The first thing that intrigued me, besides the title was the cover. It is beautiful and mysterious and had my name written all over it.
What I discovered was a story of 3 forty something women that were stuck. Stuck in life, in their hearts and just about ready to give up. The women in this novel are all extremely relatable and their life experience totally something we probably all feel every now and again.
The story was sad but hopeful and full of adventure. It was really refreshing to go on this journey with friends and find out the mysteries of the past.
I highly recommend this novel. In these sad times, I needed something light but uplifting and this novel brought it. It also made me think about my life and how not to find myself in a rut like the ladies in this novel.
Enjoy
What a great book! Finally something for a middle aged woman to read that she can relate to with some paranormal twists to it!!! Absolutely loved the 3 main characters they definitely would be amazing friends to have. The storyline is well written and moves at a great pace. I am so excited to read the next book in the series.
Robin is an over forty normal wife, mom and business owner. She feels like her life is boring.
Her husband and kids just kind of ignore her and nothing she does is ever good enough for her mother. Her bright spot in her life is her grandmother.
Then when she has a close encounter with death her life suddenly changes. She starts seeing ghosts and her friends are finding their lives changed as well.
I love the pace of this story and how Robins life changes and it isn’t all because of her new psychic abilities.
The world building is great and the details in this book are wonderful.
If you love a good ghost story/mystery this one is for you.
Suddenly Psycic by Elizabeth Hunter
I am voluntarily reviewing this ARC.
Original. Captivating. Just sentences into this book, I realized I was in for some fun. Three best friends in their 40’s, different circumstances, similar stages in life, have a life altering event. After being saved from eminent death by a mysterious man…all three women recover to discover they all have “abilities”. All different. All extremely annoying. And they have no idea why. The story unwindes this mystery while showing the struggles of being in the stage of life where your kids are older. Where they don’t need you as much. Where you’re rediscovering discovering your purpose. One of the women is a widow, one a single mom and the other in a marriage over 20 years where they just don’t see each other anymore. Their story of finding their way…finding their place, healing parts of themselves that they’ve neglected due to the constant demands of raising children…it spoke to me on such a deep and personal level. So many times I cried because I related. This book is real and honest and full of mystery and sure to be a re read for me. Elizabeth Hunter has once again created a world that I would love to get lost in. Five shiny stars for this book.
Taking the plunge
This book is such an amazing glimpse into real life for the mature woman. You know, those of use who have aches and pains, kids and spouses, where life is something and not always good, but certainly worth living. I loved the way these women are connected and the strength and friendship they show through it all. It’s a good thing since a trip into the lake changed everything for them. I really enjoyed the way the author slowly repaired the marriage relationship while taking us on a journey to solve a decades old mystery. This book is such a fantastic start to a new series and I can’t wait to see what these ladies come up with next.
This was such an amazing story! I am absolutely hooked on with this book, firstof Glimmer Lake series and the brand new genre PWF which celebrates women after 40s. Becoming Suddenly Psychic after one fateful accident including your besties is something that is hard to accept, let alone understand and learn how to use your powers. I absolutely loved the bond between Robin, Val and Monica, three best friends. Those characters are amazing, even minor ones. And story line wrapped in solving decades old mystery is great, even if I guessed right who is who, I couldn’t put it down!
Now I can’t wait for the next installment!
I really enjoyed this one. I liked Robin and her friends Monica and Val and how they got along. I liked how Robin and Mark’s relationship unfolded. This is the first paranormal women’s fiction book where the main character was married. I liked that. Can’t say much more so I don’t spoil the story. It was a bit of a shock as to how the women got their powers. The ending seemed clear to me quite a ways off but the story and characters are so well written that I didn’t mind a bit. Well done Ms Hunter! I’ll definitely go on to the next book in this series. Can’t wait to read Val’s story.
Psychic abilities at any age sounds like a great idea. I sure think it would be interesting. I love that we have three best friends that gained their powers together. They all have different life experiences that they need to learn from. Robin is the main one in this book. Although you get some small POV’S of her other friends. Robin finds out that there are more secrets then she ever dreamed of in her family. These new powers pop up and demand that she see to things going on. She has to figure out a age old mystery that no one even knew happened. She is very relateable. I have a lot of her problems, Chin hair is very real. I am very happy how this book turned out. This author is a new one for me. I found her in the PWF group. If you are looking for a new book about middle aged woman or woman in general that are ready to kick paranormal butt and take names then pick up this book
This series i hilarious!
I really enjoyed this Suddenly Psychic had me from the start it was a great story, with a wonderful setting and awesome characters who I can’t wait to read more from.
3.5 stars, I rounded up because I really liked the premise of the book. The way it was written jumped around a lot for me, and it was hard for me to keep track of what was going on. The book was written in third person, which I normally really like, but it switched from talking about all of the women in the book so it was hard for me to stay on track with who was talking. The premise of the book was very intriguing. I loved that there was a mystery for us to solve and I really love psychic things. I loved that all three of the women had different abilities. I will for sure continue with this series at some point because I really enjoyed reading about women that weren’t 25. If Monica and Val can find their happily ever afters that would also be a bonus for me. I am so happy Robin and Mark were able to communicate and he understood that they needed to work on their marriage. I feel like we have all been where they are and I love reading about couples that find the spark again.
This was such a wonderful story. Unforgettable really. Three best friends have their lives turned upside down when a near death experience sees them taking on psychic abilities. When Robin sees ghosts. One persistent man seems to spark some recognition in her that she can’t explain. Something tells her she needs to figure out why. With the help of her friends who each have their own “powers” that’s exactly what she does. Alongside all her other daily issues this one seems to take up a lot of time. Keeping secrets is not something she wants to do. Especially when they take on a more personal note. It was beautiful story. It had me in tears. Mysterious and magical and it broke my heart more than once. Honestly it has been my favorite so far of the Paranormal Women’s stories and I am beyond pleased that the wait is not that far off! Thank you so much for this amazing five star read I honestly could not put down.
Supernatural/Scooby Doo adventure.
This is a story of three best friends, Robin – married, Monica – widow and Valerie – divorced.
On the way out for an evening with her best friends when an accident changed their lives.
Driving into town for dinner to celebrate Monica’s birthday Robin and her friends lose control of their vehicle and end up deep in a lake.
The three of them end up gaining psychic abilities. Now they have to muddle through life trying to figure out just what happened to them and how to control it and what to do with the things they are seeing and finding out.
This is Robin’s story, her happily ever after. There is no cliffhanger but there are books for Monica and Valerie coming up!
I was introduced to Elizabeth Hunter by way of the Paranormal Women’s Fiction Fab13 and their launch of a series surrounding midlife women.
Y’all, this book got me all up in my feels. It was SO good! Elizabeth really knocked it out of the park. The story was wrapped in mystery and dotted throughout with the humor of Robin and her best gal pals Val and Monica. I was intrigued from the get go and the story held my attention until the very end. The suspense was killing me but I so loved the journey as it was unraveled. The love story weaved within was heartfelt and so sad that I was left heartbroken. Not gonna lie, I cried. I’m excited to see where the girls end up with their new abilities and look forward to the next book.
The two main protagonists and their relationship failed to resonate with me
Fans of Elizabeth Hunter might hate me, but I had a really difficult time getting into this book for some reason. I was actually quite excited when I first heard about the PWF project, where some of the foremost PNR authors have banded together to write exciting paranormal tales featuring kick-ass women in the middle of their life.
I have read (and enjoyed) books (including romance novels) featuring older protagonists, among them Hunter’s Grit, so it’s not the age factor. One of the problems for me was that I felt the book was getting off to a slow start, additionally, it’s the first book in a trilogy, centered on three women friends living in a small town that all go thru various difficulties in their life. But they have each other and when, during one of their get-togethers they experience a traumatic accident, they come away from that with psychic abilities of different kinds. At this point the books jumps between the narrative perspectives of the three women protagonists as they grapple with their newfound abilities, which I found kind of distracting.
Although I really liked the idea of focusing on a couple that has been together a long time and that desperately tries to regain the spark they once had, Robin and Mark just didn’t manage to grip me emotionally. I felt far more touched by the love story of Robin’s grandmother that was entwined with the mystery of the book. Sadly, the mystery was not really a mystery for me, as I guessed the broad strokes of what happened early on, so that the second half of the book was just filling in the details and I found the laborious way the book went about it a bit tedious at times.
The positive parts were the friendship between the women and the personal growth of Robin, who re-examines her life and manages to make the necessary changes to find her center again and to re-ignite her relationship with Mark.
Despite my difficulties with this book I am still looking forward to read Val and Monica’s stories and hope they will resonate more with me. 3+ stars from me.
This Is Perfection From Start To Finish, Hilarious But Emotive, Sublime!!

Suddenly Psychic: Glimmer Lake Book #1
A story about 3 bestfriends. Robin, Monica & Val. They’re taking Monica out for her first birthday since her husband died unexpectedly, when they’re in an accident that has their car plunging into Glimmer Lake. They’re trapped inside until a man breaks a window for them to escape out of at the last minute!! After that all 3 of them notice they’ve picked unwelcome supernatural abilities. Robin can see & talk to ghosts, Monica gets glimpses of the past & future & Val can see things about people’s lives by touching objects!!
Things get weirder after the car is recovered & a skeleton with old chains wrapped around it’s legs is found in the back seat!! This sets them off on an investigation to find out who it was & what happened to them. There are surprising links & emotional connections discovered. Robin especially goes on real emotional journey throughout. She realises she’s been coasting, almost making herself invisible within her own life. She has to decide what she’s going to do about it!!
I found this book sublime. I loved the characters, the 3 women had me crying with laughter but I also sobbed my eyes out a few times too!! The storyline was so engrossing & at times down right creepy!! I haven’t read anything by this Author before but I think it’s safe to say this book has changed that!! Roll on Val’s story in book #2. This was an absolutely unmissable read, trust me!

I discovered this book as part of the newly released #PWF Fab 13. Elizabeth Hunter is not a new to me author but it has been a while since I cracked open one of hers.
I will start by saying that my advice is not to go too much on the blurb. I read that and thought oh my goodness that is a whole lot of all the problems to be trying to deal with at one time – but the book is different. Whilst the heroine is technically dealing with all of those things, many of them hover in the background, only mentioned when relevent to the story.
It is often said that a sudden shock or trauma can open the door to abilities you never know you had, and that is certainly true in this book. Elizabeth Hunter very cleverly manages to not only provide a believable gateway for her heroine, but for her friends too. Suddenly developing a new psychic ability is definitely something that is better when shared. This story highlights wonderfully how women can support each other through some of the hardest times in their lives, but still find a way to carry on, and even have an adventure. This book took me through a whole gambit of emotions from shock to laughter, happiness to tears. As the pages turn I actually worked out much of what was likely to happen story wise, (I have taken to calling this “The Melanie Clause” as it was pointed out to me that few people carry as many story plots in their head to draw from as I do), but as this happens often, it didn’t detract from the story telling. This book is beautifully written, and as the first in a new series leaves plenty more to be explored, whilst still providing closure for those that hadn’t themselves solved the mystery that started it all.
A solid 4 stars from me.
**Although this book says Glimmer Lake #1 it definitely works as a stand alone story**
Elizabeth Hunter is a new author for me and I have to say I quite enjoyed Suddenly Psychic (Glimmer Lake Book #1). This book is a new series and part of Paranormal Women’s Fiction #PWF…13 wonderful female authors have gotten together to create paranormal fiction for the 40 plus generation and I couldn’t be more thrilled.
Through an accident 3 friends Robin, Val and Monica discover they now have paranormal abilities that take them on a quest through Glimmer Lake’s history trying to solve a mystery. The book was filled laughs, tears, groans and ahh moments. I couldn’t put it down, a definite page turner and I whole heartedly recommend it if you enjoy Elizabeth Hunter and Paranormal novels. Elizabeth Hunter has gained a new fan and I can’t wait for the next book.
