A Paranormal Women’s Fiction with a bit of class and a lot of sass, for anyone who feels like age is just a number!Every woman goes through changes in their forties. Just not… these changes.Robin Brannon was a normal wife, mom, and antique-shop owner until a brush with death turned her day-to-day life upside down. Now she and her two best friends are seeing things that belong in a fantasy … things that belong in a fantasy novel. Ghosts. Visions. Omens of doom. Nothing that belongs in the peaceful mountain town they call home.
Added to that, Robin’s marriage is on the rocks, her grandmother’s health is failing, her mother is driving away the customers at her shop, her teenage daughter refuses to get her driver’s license, and her left knee aches every darn morning.
Robin doesn’t have the time, energy, or knees to unearth the secrets buried at the bottom of Glimmer Lake, but fate doesn’t seem to care. Some secrets are just dying to be exposed.
Suddenly Psychic is stand-alone paranormal women’s fiction and the first book in the Glimmer Lake series by USA Today best seller, Elizabeth Hunter, author of the Elemental Mysteries.

Elizabeth Hunter does not disappoint!
Very interesting about these women coming “unintentionally ” into some powers.
This is a different kind of book from Elizabeth Hunter, and I hope it was as fun to write it, as it was for me to read it.I
This was a well thought out book, with plenty of great characters, both living and dead. They were so relatable, especially the three best friends when they interact, ranging from hilarious to catty, comforting and aha moments. Some scenes will have you nodding your head in agreement, especially when they are in the sinking car near the beginning. It just gets better from there.
The descriptions were done so well, where you can just be one with the story being told. You are submerged so far into the book, you feel like you are trying to solve the mystery along with the girls, actually saying suggestions to them as if they can hear you…lol
It was almost a cozy mystery, with a good dose of supernatural. Some readers may find some scenes to be emotional, just because it was written that well. This new PWF genre, is definitely one I can get behind, because I can understand the aches and pains and general daily life of 40 somethings.
I highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun, best friend supernatural mystery, that is engaging, easy to read, that flows effortlessly, and you hate to put it down kind of book.
This barely misses a five star rating. It’s sweet and fun, with great friends and a marriage that needs a little work. Some twists were so obvious it was hard to believe no one suspected, but otherwise, this was a joy to read.
I’ve loved this series by Elizabeth Hunter! I’ve read the first trilogy and plan to go looking for more! If you love Paranormal Women’s Fiction, you’ll love these stories about 3 wonderful women and their newfound psychic abilities.
Based on audio version. Cute paranormal middle-aged fun story. Predictable at times, but kept me interested.
I’ve only read one other series of Hunter’s and absolutely loved it (the Elemental Series), so I was a little hesitant starting it; though I really loved the cover. I love the cover on all three of the books she has planned for this series. The story featuring Robin started out normal enough, before taking a turn for the paranormal. I think the characters are ok, though I didn’t pick up on their individual personalities and how they differed right away. It just seemed like a best-friends trio that you accepted and went along with; which I did for the entire book. By the end, things start to settle down and make sense, though it isn’t the most climactic of stories. It was definitely emotional though, since I lost my great-grandmother (who is a lot like her Grandmother Helen) a few years ago. I think Hunter did a good job of writing characters that are appropriate for their times. Helen is a very different person from her daughter, Grace, who is different from her daughter Robin. They could be people you know in real life because they are going through some very real situations that women experience in their midlife (aside from the paranormal). The reality is though that the mundane was just that. It is standard. And though it’s normal that they’re working through these emotions, they’re not having life-altering epiphanies.
Sadly, I had several criticisms for the way this series started. I really think the lack of urgency throughout the book did it a disservice. Stuff happened, they take a while to process, get used to life, and then something new happens. There are sizeable gaps between the events. The main character is relatable to many women who are mousey. I’m just not one of them, so it made the book a bit dry for me. I was waiting to see when she would decide to leave her husband because she was kind of forgettable, but it took a turn when he stepped in and wanted to help fix things between them. Which is ok. It’s commendable that he wasn’t just a jerk and she finds another prince charming. I get that she was boring before the paranomal hit her, but it didn’t make the book any more exciting. I will keep with the series because I do like the author, and we’ll see where the next book takes us, but it can only go up from here, right? I mean it wasn’t truly horrible or I wouldn’t continue the series. But it just wasn’t my favorite PWF book I’ve read to date.
Another fun series in the Paranormal Women’s Fiction genre. I got the first one and had to read the other two. The enduring friendship between the three heroines will make your heart happy.
I read all three of these in the last few weeks, & it felt like meeting new friends–the sort of women many of us know. The widow, the divorcee, and the one with the marriage that gone dull. They’re not romances in the way of 20-somethings or angst. These are realistic women, best friends bordering on sisters, who each get their own version of second chances. The reader gets to go on adventures solving mysteries (ghostly sorts), all while meeting a lively community in a small town. Whether you like contemporary or paranormal, romance or cozy, you’ll find something to catch your interest in this really well-crafted world. Well written. Engaging. I recommend just buying all three at once.
DISCLAIMER: None. I bought these because they looked fun. I don’t know the author, & no one asked for my review 🙂
I loved this book. The characters were so relatable (especially if you’re a mother and in your forties). I loved how the magic, the adventure and the ‘romance’ was woven through the story. It made me laugh, and cry, and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series.
Robin and her two best friends, Val and Monica, were just “ordinary” women in their mid-forties when a brush with death left them with psychic abilities. Robin can see ghosts and must learn to deal with that as well as everything else on her plate. She has an aging grandmother, a teenager at home, and a marriage on the rocks that she wants to save. Can she handle all that and solve the mystery that Fate seems to have given her to see solve?
I enjoyed this book and the fact that it’s about older women very much. The book’s well-written with well-developed characters. It captured me from the beginning and kept me hooked until the end. It covers a range of emotions as I laughed in places and cried in others. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series.
The main character in Suddenly Psychic, Robin, is a 45-year old mother and wife who keeps asking herself, “Is this the rest of my life? Really? This? Every day until I die?” This set of questions immediately hooks the reader as it expresses feelings I think many can identify with at different stages of life. While dealing with a growing distance from her (almost) adult children and her husband of 25 years, as well as a dissatisfaction with running the antiques shop her mother started, Robin develops an interesting new ability following a traumatic event with her two best friends.
The three women, especially Robin, are compelled to get to the bottom of a seventy-year old mysterious murder that hits a little close to home. As with the many other Elizabeth Hunter books I’ve read, characters and plot are well-developed so you feel as if you know the characters and identify with their struggles. I enjoyed this start to the series so well, I immediately downloaded the next book once I finished reading this one. Looking forward to Val’s story next as I was particularly delighted by her squeamishness over dead bodies when she’s otherwise portrayed as the “tough one” (my impression) of the group.
Suddenly Psychic is a wonderful edition to the paranormal fiction genre that is made even better because who wouldn’t want the support of their lifelong best friends when they all suddenly develop psychic powers. I really enjoyed reading this story and the fact that the characters felt like they had the life experiences they were supposed to. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!!!
Was turned on to this book as part of a Facebook group Paranormal Woman’s Fiction. It was great from the get-go. Story about women’s friendship is wonderful and the paranormal elements were great!
I picked this book up on a whim – the cover drew me in. What a great story. I love the 3 main characters, in their mid-forties. Grandma Helen’s story was beautiful, tragic and at the end she had her HEA. A great read.
This is a paranormal book about three women over 40 who were best friends suddenly having psychic powers and dealing with their lives. After a near death car accident in the local lake, they were saved by a man who broke the window. At first, they did not know he was actually a ghost. As a result of the accident, all three female characters each get their own special power. Then a man’s body is find in the car once it was brought up from the lake. Lots of unusual history with the town and lake. Together they must solve the mystery of the man and how he is part of their lives.
Suddenly Psychic was the first book that I have read by Elizabeth Hunter and I loved it. It is part love story, part mystery (kinda cool & maybe a little freaky), part history of an old town mostly forgotten, oh and a murder from many many years ago, . All of the main characters have such a special bond of friendship and they are all over the age of 40, who each develops a supernatural “side-affect” after they were in a car accident. The author has a very unique gift that makes you relate to the main characters no matter what age you are. If you like intrigue, mystery & history all rolled together with a bit of magic mixed in then you should really give this book a chance – I really think you would thoroughly enjoy it. Elizabeth Hunter definitely has a new fan! I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
This has some good plot twists. A nice compelling mystery to sort out while the ladies try to figure out how to come to terms with what they have. The paranormal aspect of the story give the mystery more of a voice. It’s nice to see the women older with the midlife aches instead of young and super pretty.
This was an enjoyable paranormal read. Robin, Val, and Monica deal with realistic lifelike issues that are relatable all while navigating some crazy changes. Eagerly looking forward to the next book.
A+ rating. I LOVED this book and the beginning of the story for these three best friends. I’m diving right into book #2…yay, I love that it’s already out! GREAT book!
Definitely recommend!
