I loved Jasper’s story. He’s a good man with a good heart. I wasn’t a big fan of Malka but she’s growing on me. They are friends to lovers in a meandering sort of way. It was definitely a slow burn. Jasper lost his mother in the first book of the series and is still getting over her death, and Malka has all kinds of things going on in her life. They each have to find their way through their stuff and then to each other. There’s good character development and a plot that draws you in and keeps you reading. It all adds up to great book. I highly recommend it, as well as the whole series. I can’t wait for the next installment.
As I said before, this author is one to watch! She just knows how to make characters so swoony and perfect for one another, its so fun to watch it all unfold. Jasper and Malka have the best journey! I love the bad girl/good guy pairing and these two were so amazing together. I adored and savored every word and can’t wait for the next installment from this reliable one click author!
With each new book of Julia’s I think, “Ok, this is my favorite, there is no way she can top this”… then she does! Malka and Jasper’s book was no exception. It was so raw and real! She pulled every emotion possible from me! I am in love with these characters, with this band, the world she has created, and most of all with Julia’s writing!
OMG!!!! This is the 3rd book in the Blue is the Color series and what a 3rd book it is. This book was Amazing. I’ve been desperately waiting for Jasper’s story and I got it, but what I didn’t expect was his love interest. That was shocking!! I loved the story line. These 2 souls are so lost and sad I just wanted them to be together so badly. Timing is everything. This story pulled at my heart strings. I felt for them. I cried for them. Great, great story. Looking forward to book 4!!!
OMG! What an amazing story! Julia has written another fantastic book in the Blue is the Color series! I loved Jasper and Malka! Although I never thought of them being together, turns out she was perfect for him! The story took them from being friends to lovers and the journey was fantastic! I was drawn into the story and didn’t stop until the end! I love the characters in this series! I can’t wait until I get Ian’s story!
The best book of this series so far. This story gripped me from the first page and left me wanting more. Jasper and Malka’s story ripped me apart and gave me one heck of a major hangover. I’ve been intrigued by these characters since the first book and was so excited to read their story. It’s a doozy and does not disappoint. These two were meant for one another and suffer through a lot to finally get to where they need to be. Tissues are a must and be prepared for all the emotions. A must read and one story I would give five plus stars if I could.
Julia Wolf is a poet. Each word scribed I fell more in love with the story of Jasper and Malka. Jasper is the sweetest soul on the planet. There’s no way to describe how perfect and beautiful he truly is. For that, you need to read this amazing book. This slow burn romance will have you swooning page after page. Not only is this friends-to-lovers emotionally driven it is hot as hell. I can’t recommend this book enough. #ColorIsBlueGroupie for LIFE!
Julia Wolf’s books just keep getting better and better. I could not help but become engrossed in the turbulent relationship between Jasper and Malka. The ups and downs as they struggle with their feelings for each other had me gripping my kindle at times and falling in love with both of them and their story. Can’t wait till her next book.
If you have read any of the previous books in Blue is the Color series (which I highly recommend doing) then you have already met Malka & Jasper. Jasper is the quiet, bass playing member of the band Blue is the Color. And I was so ready for his story. I’ve always liked Malka’s character (even though she was previously tied to Jasper’s band mate) so I was a little hesitant as to how Julia Wolf would be able to make me see Malka as a good match for Jasper. BUT I must say I should not have doubted JW. She managed to weave a lovely story of complex emotions, self doubt, sweetness, humor and steaminess that make you wonder why you never saw these two together from the very beginning. A book that manages to give you everything you could think of all wrapped up in one book. Another great one to add to your TBR list. ……….Now I’m ready for Ian’s story.
Malka and Jasper what can I say?! Well those who have read it will know what I mean by the hum “hmmm”. Lol all is right. Wonderful love story, not too sentimental, just enough really. Blue is the color series had been a fantastic series of books and this was a fantastic addition. Loved every minute of reading their story. Julia is a true artist of romance stories. Enjoy!!!
This was an ARC copy and really enjoyed reading and reviewing this great book.
I went into Jasper and Malka’s story with some worry that I wouldn’t connect with them or like them much. And then their build from acquaintances to friends to best friends to a temporary nothing to EVERYTHING blew me away. They prove that all is not as it seems, and that this author is clearly capable of creating stories that tie together beautifully, yet aren’t cookie-cutter repeats of the same two personalities over and over.
Jasper and Malka truly connect as friends at a time when Jasper desperately needs someone or something to remind him that there is still life to be lived after the death of his mother. While they both struggle with their feelings for each other, they remain friends for quite some time before Jasper realizes that he’s dangerously close to crossing a line with his friend’s sometimes-ex. Because Jasper is so conflicted and unwilling to hurt anyone, he walks away, thinking that it’s for the best.
Malka is used to being told that she’s too much or not enough or too whatever-I-don’t-want by people, so even though her heart breaks upon losing her almost-was with Jasper, she understands. She finds a way to make peace with what she always thought was her shortcomings and faults before encountering Jasper again in Baltimore. This time, though, Jasper isn’t about to walk away from the woman who could easily become his world. They face some bumps in their journey, but their story is made all the more realistic and believable because of the difficult times, and they prove that they so richly deserve their HEA.
This one is a slower burn, but don’t let that dissuade you from reading Jasper and Malka’s story. I didn’t feel like their slow start was boring and actually found myself halfway through the book before realizing that they weren’t even truly TOGETHER yet! And yes, there is a little bit of drama with Ian, but we also see that the truth of Ian and Malka’s past isn’t what Ian has always been willing to let others see (or what Malka allowed him to dictate).
Overall, I was unwilling to put my iPad down while reading, even though I definitely wanted to throw it at a few points during my read. Malka’s pain just bled into my veins, while Jasper’s anger at misunderstandings kept my heart pounding and looking for more. This story proved that Julia Wolf definitely still has so much more talent to share with her readers and that we likely haven’t even gotten past the tip of the iceberg of what she has in store for future books.
This first half of this book is a slow burn and you can feel the heat between Malka and Jasper raising just like the mercury in Sedona on a summer day. Then the explosion comes and you melt along with them.
Malka is a women who is a lost soul and also a very talented indie singer songerwriter with her band called Sadie who was born and raised in German. She moved to the States at 20 touring with okay bands and couchsurfed her way through the last decade. She has been on a rollercoaster of highs and lows for the last two decades, never knowing who to trust, you to love, how to be at peace with herslef.
Jasper is a loveable all around good guy who is a bass player for the band Blue is the Color, and he writes poetry in a notebook he carries everywhere. His parents separated when he was young and he and his mom left Phoenix to start over in Balitmore. That moved changed his life forever. This is where he meet his bandmates and they became as close as brothers from another mother. His mom was diagnosed with brain cancer and waited until the end to tell him and his band, she was dying. He stayed with here for last two months scared to miss a moment with her until she passed.
The story begins with Malka showing up at Jasper’s mom funeral. She doesn’t speak to anyone she stands in the back and cries because she understands his pain. To anyone looking Malka and Jasper are complete opposites but through the course of the book, you will see how much they truely are alike. They share similiar passions for life and love with everything they are. Together they fly high and reach the stars, but alone they are sad and incomplete. They are each others soul mate and other half, even it others don’t see it that way at first. They make prefect sense to each other, knowing exactly what the other needs and how to make them happy.
“Feelings weren’t science, if I felt it, it was real.” Boy did they feel it. You will too when you read this amazing love story. You will fall in love with them both.
Such Great Heights is a beautifully written book that falls within the lines of a slow burn romance with Jasper and Malka’s relationship evolving from acquaintances to friends and to eventually more. This book was full of sweetness, romance, humor, and lots of emotions.
Jasper is the bass player of his band Blue is the Color and he recently lost his mother. The pain and grief that he experiences is palpable. During this time, he develops a deep connection with Malka, another musician who is also a former on-again-off-again flame of his fellow bandmate Ian. The two form a strong bond of friendship and eventually, their feelings start to evolve into mutual attraction and love.
I loved Jasper in that he is a good, sexy man with a kind soul and beautiful heart. He writes gorgeous poetry and is so sweet with Malka. At times, I almost thought he was too perfect. Jasper is in a difficult position as once he recognizes how deep his feelings for Malka go, he struggles with his emotions and worries about how if he starts a relationship with the woman he loves would it possibly destroy his friend Ian and even the band?
“Life is a beautiful kind of chaos and so are you.”
Malka seemed like more of a complex character than Jasper to me. She is a bit of a transient who originates from Germany and is with a band that doesn’t hold par to her talent. She has been told that she is either “too much” or “isn’t enough” and this affects her relationships. She has this ability to bring light to those around her – people gravitate towards her, and yet most people do not pick up on her sadness. My heart hurt for her as the author revealed more and more pieces of her. I really liked her as a heroine. Malka was kind, loved deeply, and was the kind of girl that I would love to be friends with.
The author did a great job on developing the bond between Jasper and Malka and I enjoyed reading their journey. They had that gravitational pull that could not be denied. There were some rather humorous parts in this book that had me chuckling and then parts where my heartstrings were pulled. I did not find this book to very heavy on angst and the drama was not over the top. In case you are wondering here, there is absolutely NO cheating in this book!
In theory, Such Great Heights can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading Times Likes These (bk 1) first as you will get some of their backstory in book 1 and also because the first 2/3s of Such Great Heights has the same overlapping timeline.
I have to apologize to Julia Wolf right now. You see, I’ve been her dedicated stalker since the start of this series. I’ve proposed in reviews like a creep. I’m not apologizing for that by the way. I regret nothing. I’m apologizing because I now have to dump her for Jasper. Sorry. Not even Julia of the magic words tops him. Even if she did create him. Seriously though, Jasper has replaced all Book boyfriends ever. I have never, not once in my years of devouring books loved a character in the way I love him.
There are not enough words in any language to properly describe this man. They all seem so small in comparison to how beautiful a soul he truly is. Saying he’s the sweetest of men doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of how deeply he loves. Calling him swoony doesn’t even explain how heart meltingly romantic he is. The just are no words for this man. Even perfection doesn’t fit because he’s far from perfect, just like Malka, but his imperfections are what make him flawlessly beautiful.
When I say Malka is the other half of his soul I genuinely mean it. Long before they’re a couple the connection they have is on a soul deep level. I’ve never seen two people who understand each other on the level they do. Julia Wolf delivers an epic emotional work of pure beauty with their story.
Sexy and soulful!
*Have you read the first 2 books in the Blue is the Color series yet??
If not, then hop to it, if yes, then, hey, it’s all about that sweet, sensitive and insiteful man who has words constantly overflowing from his mind…and falling into his notebook. The beautiful Jasper, inside and definitely out! He’s a sexy, soulful poet who’s had his world turned upside down after the death of his beloved mother. She was his rock and biggest cheerleader, encouraging him and his best friends to follow their dreams of becoming what they are today. Jasper is the bass guitarist for The Color is Blue, one of the biggest rock bands out there and getting to experience that with his childhood friends is, as they say..priceless!
His buddy Ian, Blue’s drummer, has been involved in an on and off again ‘thing’ with a girl from another band for years, but it’s going nowhere. The lost and grieving Jasper finds himself drawn to Malka, when she unexpectedly crashed his moms funeral and after, they experienced one of the most memorable nights of his life, hers too, as her quirky and flirty personality makes him forget his all encompassing sorrow, at least temporarily. Jasper’s found a strong connection with his new and true friend, a confidant, someone who is also a little broken but still knows how to have fun. He hopes they can continue to be each others support system.
Add to that, they are both touring in the Swerve Summer Music Fest along with many other bands. Ian and Malka are still a sometimes thing, occasionally hooking up. Jasper is feeling more than friendship but this ‘thing’ that Malka and Ian keep falling into is a huge road block, so what he wants can’t go any further. Friends it will have to stay.
Malka is an amazing lead singer in a mediocre band, a free spirit who you either pulls you in or pushes you away, so she’s been told. She’s found a true kindred spirit in warm, kind, funny and caring Jasper and doesn’t want to lose his special friendship. It makes her realize just how over Ian she finally is.
Both have serious feelings, but know this is a wrong place and time, right person situation that will never have a happy ending. She has her inner demons and he’s got to get past his sadness. What will happen when this summer tour winds down and everyone goes their separate ways?
Julia Wolf has written 3 beautiful books in this rockstar romance series and while each is connected and has its own special story, I really just enjoy seeing the whole band again and again in every book. I can’t wait to discover what’s she’s going to say about Ian, the most mysterious of the Blue boys yet. I hope it’s another great one like Jasper and Malka’s was. A sweet, satisfying epilogue, I LOVE one of those, don’t you?!
An early copy was generously provided and happily received. This is my honest review of it.
