Before he was Old-timer, he was Craig Emilson, a young doctor, sucked into military service at the outbreak of World War III. Enlisting to become a Special Forces suborbital paratrooper, Craig is selected to take part in the most important mission in American military history — a sortie into enemy territory to eliminate the world’s first strong Artificial Intelligence. … Artificial Intelligence. The mission is only the beginning of Craig’s story, and for the story of humanity as well, as they accelerate towards a world that is post-human.

Excellent science fiction. Very interesting plot.
First in a great series, read them all.
Great read. Hard to put down.
A good story with many entertaining twists.
Exceptional series! Read 5 books in 3 days. Amazing wordcraft and plot.
Good read
The story line was creative. I liked the characters.
Absolutely loved this book…couldn’t wait to find out what happened next! This would make a great movie!
Original concept of AI computer and human combination. Entertaining and has a lot of twist and turns. Just when you think you have it figured out it changes again.
Wow! Action packed and thought-provoking book. The protagonist, Craig, is smart, empathetic and oh so imperfect – in other words, human. Great read!
entertaining easy quick read with interesting dilemmas introduced
First a warning. Instead of this book, get Post Human. David Simpson was kind enough to include this book in Post Human. Better yet, look for his sequals in the series.
His writing is safe for ya readers. What sex is mentioned is after the fact and part of the plot. These stories don’t end with “cliff hangers.” You will want to read the next one.
Again, get the “Post Human” edition, it contains “Sub Human.”
Unique plot, great characters, and well written!
i did not care for the plot
This was a Boobbub asked question. I don’t think Sub Human was as good as the rest but I read the whole series… twice. So think it is worth some time. Pretty sure I did reviews on goodreads and possibly on sagelyfox.blogspot.com or sagelyfox.wordpress.com if you really want to know more.
This is one of those AI topics we never thought about when Isaac was building a library in Federation Universe… who knew it would be in everyone’s head? Hot hidden away on a remote planet.
OK read a lot of every thing in one
Just ok – not interesting enough for me to pursue but worth reading
I enjoyed the story and the characters.
I finished this book, in a day. It mostly held my interest, had a number of interesting ideas about AI and technology, had smooth writing and was fairly well edited.
I can’t say I enjoyed it. There was frequent, extreme violence. The protagonist is a jerk, and some characters are downright hateful. Two women were likeable, no men. And the characters were unbelievable, inconsistent in their values. The protagonist was unconcerned about his mission that killed several hundred million Chinese people, but became violently enraged to learn that his wife had married someone else after he had been dead for fourteen years? No, not to my taste.
A little clunky but a decent light read.
