MacKinnon has created one interesting world in this first installment to a new serial. Lainie grew up in the slums with no real hope of a better life until she receives her acceptance letter to the T.T.A. otherwise known as the Time Travel Academy. Arriving by portal her life is about to change forever as she starts her training. Great start to this story and I cannot wait to see what happens next as MacKinnon has a way of drawing the reader into the story until the fell like they are there. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
I have always enjoyed the stories from Skye MacKinnon, and then when I was given the opportunity to read and review this new serial of a new series, I jumped at the chance.
What drew me into this story? Well first off, the cover of the story – beautiful right? Then it was the subject matter – Vikings. I too have followed the tv series the vikings along with other series of the Norse Gods, so I thought why not this series. I normally don’t read serials as I enjoy reading the whole thing at once, even if there are more than books in the series, it makes for a continuous flow of the story. In the past I got put off with serials – namely the Ferro series as I felt that they were just a money grab, but after reading the explanation of why the author is writing this as a serial to read inbetween at coffee, lunch time etc. It all made sense to me- a quick escape during the day.
Now the characters. Skye has a real talent of world building and a very driven plot. I was intrigued by the main characters Hjalmar and Lainie. Lainie is strong and independant and makes up her own mind about situations and people. She is very talented and logical. Hjalmar is well, plain sexy and it makes you want to read more about him and know more of his backstory.
I am really looking forward to reading more of this series.
Studying Her Vikings by Skye MacKinnonis a wonderful story to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves to read about Sci-Fi.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Love the story so far. Lots of excitement, suspense, surprises, twists and turns and hot vikings. I dislike cliffhangers and books split up in so many. Was going to give it 4 stars because of it but I really like the story and time travel. This one is so enjoyable. Think I will buy each book and wait till I have them all to read them. I recommend it. It is attention grabbing. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Gah! Short but awesome! I can’t wait til the next serial! Vikings and Norse languages with runes. And let’s be honest time travel! I mean how cool! O want to get to know the MC more and her new Professor.
I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have not read a serial like this before and I was a bit shocked. I mean going to an academy that is all about time traveling. That is a very cool idea. Lainie does not enjoy the idea of going to the Academy, but she is given the assignment that has to do with Vikings. That is what drew me in. I have not read anything with vikings in it in a very long time. Then of course this is an RH. That means more then one love interest. This the first of 5 parts. Looking forward to the next 4.
I missed the serials of RH past! I love that I can read these during my lunch break, or when I want to read before bed but not stay up til 1AM and be super tired for work. Yes, there are more cliffhangers, but its a nice change a pace to some of the longer lengths books.
I was hooked when I heard Skye was writing about Vikings and even better there is time travel! I really liked Lainie and connected with her in book 1 easily. I liked Maryam and am interested to see how their friendship will grow. Also interested to see what happens with Kaycee and if their rivalry grows and changes while at TTA. I will say the one part I didnt appreciate was the little dig at Americans with us thinking the world revolves around us. I mean for some its probably true, but I haven’t felt that way/not a huge fan of the stereotyping. Ok so I digress, back to the potential epicness of this story!
I am having self control and waiting to read part 2 tomorrow, but excited to see part 3 isn’t too far behind! I am suuuuper intrigued and hot and bothered by the Viking prof himself. I love the tension and the start of his and Lainie’s bond in this book. Can’t wait to meet the rest of the harem and to get to see her train/go on missions or adventures. BTW, I dont think I could handle how the TTA building is situated. I would not be a fan of the rules haha.
Recommend this RH read, just be aware it is a serial so dont complain that its shorter than a normal book. You have been warned!!
I loved everything about this book and just couldn’t put it down, fantastically written with stunning and captivating characters, Multi layers of sub plots that are easily followed and wonderful action with romance. A must read for so many reasons. I am sure you will love these books as much as I did.
The good storyline and interesting characters grabbed my attention from the very beginning and wouldn’t let me go until I finished reading the very last page!
So this is a good start to this serial read! If u don’t like serials then wait until the full book is released but this time travel reverse harem is full of action, intrigue and hot Vikings and although short is very addictive and I cannot wait to read the next part to see how it all develops!
This is a quick read. It starts and ends with uncertainty. Cliffhanger definitely. Want to read about more. Not much happens.
First, be aware this is a serial so it’s intended as a short story. Every two weeks we get a snippet so she is writing fast on it. I personally like it so I can read it on the train. I like the style of writing ms Skye. We meet our MC and she says goodbye to her mom as she is going to time travel and can’be in contact with anyone. A hot teacher and vikings, who does not want that?
Tasty
An intriguing premise to a new serialized series. Vikings, time travel, interesting strong women, reverse harem….. It can only get better….come along for the ride.
This is a brand new serial by this author and let me say this some may not like serials but they are PERFECT for a lunch break or for those that take public transportation. I love the Time Travel concept in this book. The Time Travel Academy assigns her Vikings and after that everything changes for her.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Studying Her Vikings by Skye MacKinnon is a time travel reverse harem romance.
Laine has to go back in time to find a Viking and bring him to the future to save the world.
This is a part of 5 series, a hot quicky, perfect to read on your work break.

This is an intriguing short story about Lainie and her training at the Time Travel Academy. This well written serial gives us the beginning of Lainie’s story and I can’t wait to read the rest to find out more about Lainie and the Vikings.
Lainie thought that getting into the Time Travel Academy was just a dream but then she gets her acceptance letter and her whole life changes. Those in the TTA leave everyone else behind and live there. Lainie is fast-tracked with two other first years and is quickly immersed in her new world. One teacher, who teaches Norse and runes, connects with her and helps her adjust. I voluntarily reviewed this book.
We meet Lainie as she says goodbye to her mother for the last time. Now accepted into the Time Travel Academy, she can have no contact with her mother from this point on. Transported away, she only feels slight effects from the journey, and so her education is fast-tracked because that means she will most likely be able to travel back further in time without ill effect. In this episode of the serial, Lainie goes deep into learning about Vikings and runology from a hunky professor.
What a fun concept to serialize a book like this! The author intends to put out an episode every two weeks until it’s complete. This harkens back to the days in the 1840s and 1850s when novels by people like Gaskell and Dickens were serialized in magazines. The concept completely works in the modern day, where we can just grab a little piece of a story—say over lunch or waiting at the doctor’s office—and whet our appetite for the next installment.
At the beginning of this episode, the author discusses that she herself has been studying Old Norse and runology as a part of her master’s degree. This made me wonder if some of what Lainie is learning is what the author has been learning in her own classes. She gives us a nice set of resources at the end if we want to learn more about Old Norse, Vikings, and runology.
Looking forward to the next installment!
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
This is the first part of a serial, which the author clearly states in the summary, so don’t expect a novel length story.
Ms. MacKinnon introduces us to Lainie and a few secondary characters, including one hot teacher.
I’m looking forward to seeing how this story develops.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
This is an amazing start to this new series. You are just introduced Lainie and her trouble in her life. This is an intriguing start that has made me excited for the rest to the serials.
