From #1 New York Times bestseller Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick comes a second chance at love and bodyguard romance Strong, Silent Cowboy, a Moving Violations novel. “Leigh’s books can scorch the ink off the page.”–RT Book Review He Will Do Anything… Sallie Hamblen had three incredibly hot, sexy nights with Jacob Donovan, an undercover CIA agent, before he disappeared, leaving her broken … Donovan, an undercover CIA agent, before he disappeared, leaving her broken hearted and forever yearning for the man she lost. What would you do if you moved to a new town to run away from people that were chasing you and you found the man that rocked your world three years earlier…and he didn’t remember you? Well, that is what Sallie Hamblen is faced with when she moves to Deer Haven, California.
Jacob Donovan was recruited by the CIA when he finished basic training at the age of 18. He was on a mission in Switzerland gathering Intel on a terrorist group when he met Sallie and they spent a fantastic weekend together, but he never returned to her like he said he would so she returned to her home in the US.
Sallie is on the run from people and she doesn’t even know why they are chasing her. Her step-father has helped her procure a new name, and a job that sets her up in Deer Haven where Jacob lives as a rancher. When they are first introduced her heart speeds up and he has NO CLUE who she is. Well, isn’t that kick in the head.
This story spans over six years, from when they first meet to when they finally get together. This story had great promise, and if I was rating the book on the hotness factor alone it would have gotten 5 stars because it was HOT, but I felt the story line wasn’t developed to it’s potential and I am left with a couple of questions that most likely will never get answered. I thought everything would wrap up in an Epilogue or something but it didn’t so I’m left wondering about a few things.
Strong, Silent Cowboy can be read as a standalone even though it’s the second book in the Moving Violations Series. This story revolves around one couple and there is no cross over between the books other than being friends.
If you enjoy Erotic Romantic Suspense than I would recommend this book to you.
Happy Reading!!!
An extremely sensuous story for Sallie and Jacob. If you are averse to explicit sex scenes this may not be the story for you. Years ago, Jacob Donovan and Sallie Hamblen spent a weekend together and then he was gone. Sallie has been running for her life, changing her name and home with the help of her stepfather. Moving to Deer Haven, she had no idea that Jacob lived here and owned the Rocking D Ranch. He doesn’t remember her due to an injury he received, causing a week of his memory to be lost. After all this time, the attraction between them is incendiary, but how can she put him and others in jeopardy? Jacob learns that someone is targeting her, possibly to get to him, but he swears that he will protect her. His neighbors and good friends, the Culpepper brothers, have his back but will they be enough to take out and eliminate the threat? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
First, I just want to say that I was sad to hear about Veronica Chadwick’s passing. This series is what introduced me to this co-author. I’m a big fan of Lora Leigh, which is what drew me to this series. Her and Veronica’s collaboration was seamless and I’ve had every intention of checking out more of Veronica’s work. My prayers go out to her family.
Now for the book, Jacob is everything I’ve come to love about a Lora Leigh hero. He’s very intense, pure alpha dominance, protective and possessive of what he considers his. And Sallie is his. His pursuit of her was a thing of beauty if you are a fan of the alpha hero.
That doesn’t mean Sallie was some pushover. I really liked that she had self respect and didn’t just fall at Jacob’s feet. They were a great combination of what I like in my main characters.
Even though you learn real quick, I won’t give this little tid bit away. Let’s just say, Jacob and Sallie’s reunion had a bit of twist/theme to it that I do enjoy. It made things more interesting on top of an already interesting plot behind the reason Sallie was running for her life.
This was a pretty quick read and it did end kind of abruptly, but I am hoping that’s because we will be getting more in this series and more of all the interesting characters.
This journey had my attention right from the start. Sallie Hamblen has enemies, and she truly doesn’t understand why, but when she’s relocated yet again, she gets introduced to Jacob Donovan. This, the man who ghosted on her three years earlier after a hot weekend while in Switzerland, yet he doesn’t remember her, not even a glimmer. Well, two can play at that game and three years manage to go by with no further interaction. Of course, one would have to actually go out and socialize to have any interactions at all.
Nothing is as it seems, here in this small town in CA. Jacob and his men ARE ranchers, but so much more. There’s a lot of story here that gets explained as you read along. Mystery, traitors, espionage, murder and more. All really quite intriguing, not knowing who to trust any longer. Jacob’s Granny was a bright spot, him being related to almost everyone, along with some of their interactions all added to good bits of humor to some intense times. This also has heat, whew!
I haven’t read the first book of this series, but followed right along with the events of this journey between Sallie and Jacob. I could’ve used more to the whole wrap-up, but I’ve a feeling there’s more to the backstory coming up. This is a stand alone regarding the mains, but part of a series, and I am intrigued. I received an Advance Reader’s Copy from St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley. All opinions are mine and given voluntarily
Sallie and Jacob had three steamy nights together before he left her broken hearted. Jacob was an undercover agent on a case. Years later, Jacob is a cowboy with the intent to seduce the woman he left all those years ago. He didn’t realize it was Sallie until they meet up. Sallie has moved on but is on the run from her past. Jacob vows to protect her when she’s in danger. Will the past catch up to them? Can they stay together? A good read.
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
Strong, Silent Cowboy is a romantic suspense with a strong plot about international intrigue with a storyline that could have driven the novel on its own merits. Instead, the author inserted numerous open door and highly graphic bedroom scenes throughout the book which I found mostly superfluous and repititious. While I enjoy a well-written steamy novel, the bedroom scenes must have a purpose to the plot. Sadly, toward the last third of this book, I skipped over many pages of unnecessary bedroom encounters.
As for the plot, I would rate this book a 4 star novel. For content, I rate it a 2 star. Averaging the overall impressions, this story is 3 stars.

4.4 stars
This is the second book in the Moving Violations series and it is another intriguing read from the authors. It has all of the ingredients a reader wants from drama to secrets to mystery to steamy scenes that keep the pages turning as one meets Jacob and Sallie. Jacob is a man with a past who seems to have forgotten some details. Sallie is a woman who is running from some unknown assailant. The two connect in the small town of Deer Haven. While Sallie recognizes Jacob from their meeting a few years ago, he has no idea who she is. Overall, this is one storyline that will melt your heart one second and have it going a mile a minute in the next. It can be read as a standalone. If you enjoy sexy cowboys with an edge then this is one for you. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book provided by Netgalley.
Gripping story line, with characters and a storyline that will hold your attention throughout. There is suspense, chemistry, wit and intrigue.
When Sallie Hamblen came to town she realized it was the home town of someone from her past going by a different name and no recognition of her.
There was something Jacob Donovan couldn’t put his finger on when he first met Sallie Hamben but he coundn’t quite put his finger on it.
This book will keep you guessing at every turn Kudos to Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick.
What lovely and heartfelt dedications for a brilliant author that was lost too soon. You will definitely be missed. Rest In Peace Veronica Chadwick!
This is book 2 in the Moving Violations series and it features Jacob and Sallie. Six years ago these two had what it takes to survive a lifetime together. That is until he walked out the door saying he’d be back and he never did. Sallie has been through a lifetimes worth of pain. She strong most of the time but sometimes seems like she’s on the verge of a silent breakdown. Jacob is ALPHA to the max! He is a perfect example of how hard an alpha man can fall for his woman. Let me just say that this man most definitely knows his way around the bedroom. SUPER SEXY!!!
This story line is fantastic with all the twists and turns. The mystery and suspense is brilliant and had me on the edge of my seat. The characters are awesome! I’m not sure if this series will continue but I hope those Culpepper boys get their stories told.
I like Lora’s books, I dont find that they have crazy drama, I dont feel jittery wondering what the heck is coming next, however that being said when I see one of her books I tend to grab it because I know it will be an enjoyable book and not make me crazy or too sad, which right now I dont need. With these two main characters you felt the chemistry and you were good at going along the ride with them. I liked but I hated not getting an epilogue, I know I know can’t ask for to much, but was it too much to get me a little one or two page epilogue..that would be all that I could complain about Enjoy!
rcvd an ARC at no cost to author..(netgalley) voluntarily reviewed with my own thoughts and opinoins.
Smoking hot! This sexy second chance romance is off the charts steamy. Jacob is a bit of an alphahole and Sallie is a bit of a pushover when it comes to him but when the two get together the chemistry is palpable. Cowboy loving and romantic suspense what’s not to love?
This is really 3.5 stars. I gave it 4 because 3 seems too little and this site doesn’t allow for half stars.
Lora Leigh is an author that I enjoy and it’s nice to see a new book from her after a long while. I was entertained by “Strong, Silent Cowboy” in that I like the main characters and the supporting characters. I also thought the main characters had good chemistry and their prior history gave their connection some depth. The only hang up for me really was the mystery aspect in that it ties Sallie and Jacob together but seems half-hearted in execution especially in the end.
That said, Ms. Leigh hasn’t lost her touch with either love scenes and alpha males as heroes. I also really like Sallie in that she had her life ripped away from her on top of heartbreak but she is both resilient and smart. Sallie and Jacob are intriguing characters who found their second chance at love with each other. On the strength on their love story this book is worth reading. I also look forward to additional stories to be written about the supporting characters whose pairings I think are hinted at in this novel.
Strong, Silent Cowboy is the first book in the Moving Violations series but it stands perfectly fine on its own as I have not yet read Book One. While I have read a small handful of stories by Lora Leigh before, Veronica Chadwick is new to me. I was saddened to learn of her passing. If this story was any indication, she was an amazingly talented author taken way too soon.
This story between Sallie and Jacob was smoking hot with a bit a suspense and intrigue mixed throughout. Very enjoyable story that kept me engaged throughout and I finished it one day. This is one of those stories that has not only great main characters but secondary characters that leave you wanting their stories as well. I look forward to Book 3.
ARC received via NetGalley.
I liked this book. The story offers up a entertaining blend of suspense, steam, mystery, emotion and drama. For me the characters of Jacob and Sallie were just OK. They were likable enough but I didn’t feel a strong connection with either of them. Altogether, I thought it was a pretty good read. This is my forthright, volitional review.
Enjoy the premise of ex-CIA agent turned cowboy, Jacob, having had an injury that made him forget having a steam filled few days with Sallie, and then meeting up with her again and not knowing who she is. Unfortunately, I didn’t like that it takes years for these two to actually talk and realize that Jacob has no memory of their time; not a fan of how things were handled by Sallie in the past and the present. I don’t like that they sleep together again without talking about things first; it’s another one night stand type scenario. No real connection, just lust; not a fan that she’s cool with sleeping with him again when she thinks he ghosted her in the past just because she’s oh so hot for him. It just doesn’t sit well with me; came across as weak. Also, I didn’t like how she’s the type that knows she’s in danger, but she must go on with her normal life.
She’s on the run because someone is after her, so she’s changed her name to Sallie from Kyra and has been in hiding. There’s some fun suspense and action that does add some entertainment value to the story. I just didn’t connect with the characters or the lack of deep connection between them; mostly lust between them. There are tons of steamy scenes; I liked most of them, but all of them did deter from them having an actual emotional connection based on more than lust. There are some sweet moments at times too, but I would’ve liked for there to be more time spent with them together and fully aware of the truth between them. Overall, this is an entertaining, very steamy read. I liked the read, but didn’t love.
Strong, Silent Cowboy is the second installment in authors Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick’s Moving Violations series. When Sallee Hamblen (an assumed identity to protect her) gets settled in her position as manager of Dillerman’s Feed and Supply in Deer Haven, Ca, she is introduced to rancher Jacob Donovan. While the name is different, the man is the same. Sallee spent an unforgettable three day weekend with this man in Switzerland three years ago before he disappeared. And yet, he acts as though she is a stranger.
In the three years that have passed, Sallee has had to move and change identities twice due to a masked assailant that threatens her life if she doesn’t reveal where some ‘man’ was. Sallee thinks this referred to the ex husband she was coerced to marry after her time in Switzerland but who subsequently served her with annulment papers. She hasn’t seen or heard from him since.
Now settled in to her job and new community, Sallee begins to relax a bit and when the strong, silent man who stole her heart and innocence years ago approaches her, she has no way to resist. As Sallee and Jacob fall into a modern courtship, she begins to relax into the feelings, new and old, that draw her to him. But just as Sallee does so, the storm from the past bowls them over.
This is a very interesting and enticing story that takes the reader from deep spy encounters to everyday life. With engaging characters, exceptional settings, and an extraordinary story from your favorite spy genre, Ms. Leigh and Ms. Chadwick have woven a page turning story. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!
I love a good country romance…our main cowboy Jacob, will steal your heart as he stole mine. I could not get over how much of a good soul he was. It made this story better! I loved Sallie. She is sweet, but there is danger lurking and it makes this story have a little bit of suspense.
These two characters had history and are familiar. That made my heart soar when they finally got together again. The heat factor was off the charts, the love that blossoms makes your heart swoon. I could not get over this story. I love this series, but if you have missed the first book, you can read Strong, Silent Cowboy as a standalone. But the first book is great, so you might need to back peddle.
I enjoyed this story with all the twists and turns. Sallie/Kyra was running for her life without knowing why. The strength she showed in surviving on her own, trying to keep others from being hurt on her account, made her a remarkable woman though she did not see it. Jacob was so protective of those around him, including Sallie, even though he could not remember her. The secondary characters made the story more fun as they interacted with Jacob and Sallie. I recommend this story, and I look forward to the next in the series.
I received an ARC through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.
