I like suspense stories and I like cowboy stories so this book’s storyline attracted me to read it. Sallie and Jacob make a great couple and I was happy to see them get a Happily Ever After but I didn’t like the ending of this book. And I would have liked more story and fewer sex scenes.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was Book 2 in the “Moving Violations” series and the good storyline and wonderful characters made this book a very enjoyable read!
“Strong, Silent Cowboy” (Moving Violations Book 2) by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick is a great read. I loved Sallie and Jacob’s story. This is the first book I’ve read in this series and it won’t be the last. This story is full of romance, passion, hot cowboys, family, friends, action, twists, interesting characters, and more. I’m looking forward to reading more of this series. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, cowboys, and series.
I volunteered to read and review through Netgalley of Strong , Silent Cowboy . This is a fantastic suspense romance . It’s full of suspense and intrigue, betrayal , lies and secrets . Sallie Hamblen has changed her name and moved several times to escape a stalker . She never thought she’d end up in the town that Jake a man she she spent three passionate days with in Sweden lives . She never knew what happened to him . He just left and she never seen him again . Until now . He acts like he doesn’t know her . She avoids him for three
Years . Till they end up having a passionate night together but as before he gets up and leaves . Unfortunately they are the talk of the town . Before they can figure out things . Sallies Stalker comes searching . Jacob will have to use all of his skills to protect Sallie . I really enjoyed reading this story . I highly recommend taking the time to read.
What a fitting tribute to the late author Veronica Chadwick. I loved this series from the first book, who doesn’t love a hunky cowboy, but the series always contained so much heart, and this continues strongly in the 2nd book.
Sallie has been fleeing from an unknown assailant for years now. Her step-father finally sent her to a small town to hide out amongst cowboys. She made an impact on Jacob Donovan on her arrival but she has always been “frosty” towards him although perfectly pleasant. That may have something to do with the torrid weekend they shared years ago which he has conveniently blanked from his mind! But instead of confronting him, Sallie just lays low and tries her best to fade into the crowd.
Jake obviously never got the memo cos the last thing he wants is Sallie to fade. He is haunted by dreams of a faceless woman who ties his emotions in knots. He thought he was only missing mission deails from his head injury but what else could be missing? When danger comes for Sallie again, there is no way Jake is letting her run. She is his to protect, he just has to get to that!
Ex-CIA agent, naive diplomats daughter, hot steamy nights, a mission gone wrong, and miscommunication – they all mix into a wonderfully full, addictive, and heartbreaking story. Great cameos from gun-toting grannies, alpha male cowboys, and special agent veterans.
I truly hope this series continues and there are so many other characters worthy of books. Fabulous read!
If you’re looking for a story that’s heavier on steam and less on plot then this will make a great read. For me, I would have like to have seen more substance to the story rather than the overpowering sex scenes. Some of it was over the top and repetitive and it just made an unbalanced story for me. I ended up skimming a lot of the scenes. I’m all for some great sexy scenes but when it overtakes the storyline, I lose interest altogether. I also would have liked for there to have been more on the ending – an epilogue, follow up, something. Happy endings are always good, but it just seemed to stop and it felt a bit rushed.
For the characters, I really wanted to like them but I could not really connect to them – he was kind of a rude jerk and she was more of a pushover; I would have liked to see her with a bit more backbone. I enjoyed some of the minor characters more. I really liked Gram, she was a busybody with a fun sense of humor. There were also some timeline inconsistencies for Jacob and Sallie that had me confused and I had a difficult time following.
If you are looking for a good steamy read to pass the time, then this could be the story for you. But if you’re looking for one with a lot of depth and suspense to draw you along, then this read might not be for you.
*I received an ARC from the publisher, via NetGalley, and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
This is the 2nd book in the Moving Violations series and I loved it. I have not read the 1st book in the series but I am definitely going to read it now. I enjoy books where there are secrets because I can’t stop reading until the secret is out. This is a great read!
I enjoyed this book more than I thought that I would. It was still pretty steamy but it didn’t just happen out of the blue or so quickly. Jacob and Sallie didn’t jump right into a relationship. Granted, Sallie had a good reason but not sure why Jacob took his time. My main complaint was why Sallie wasn’t as forthcoming about circumstances as she should have been. All in all, this was one of the more entertaining books from Ms Leigh recently.
Strong, Silent Cowboy is a magnificent romantic suspense by Lora Leigh and Veronica Chadwick. Team Leigh/Chadwick has provided readers with a well-written book and furnished it with a spectacular cast of characters. Sallie was on the run and hiding in Deer Haven. When she meets Jacob she’s stunned that he doesn’t recognize her and he has a different name from three years ago, but then, so does she. Jacob and Sallie’s story is packed with drama, humor, smokin’ hot sexy bits, action and suspense. I loved every page of this book and look forward to reading more from Lora Leigh in the future. Strong, Silent Cowboy is book 2 of the Moving Violations Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
**I received a copy of Strong, Silent Cowboy from St. Martins Press and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited**
Strong, Silent Cowboy by Lora Leigh is the second book in her Moving Violations series I did read the first book One Tough Cowboy however this one can be read as a stand alone. First off: You’ll definitely need a really BIG fan because this is a very hot book with a cowboy and a sassy lady but as the story goes on they have a past only Jake has no memory of their meeting (there’s a good reason) but I have to agree with everyone there’s no epilogue just a short HEA.
Kyra/Sallie is a manager for a local business and doesn’t like to go out but she’s also on the run from a seriously creepy folks too. She knows Jake and has kept him at a huge distance except now when she gets talked into going out to the local bar. What happens next is when you get the fan because these two together are combustible but when his grandma is attack (Never fear she’s a great shot with her trusty shotgun) Jake’s adamant he’s going to protect her after thugs find her as well. Jake is former CIA but due to an incident in his past he doesn’t remember a Sallie but he has friends who are former special ops who’ll do whatever it takes but it will take all of their resources and contacts to take out the attackers if all of them want to live. Giving out any more information would spoil the story for everyone so I’ll end here.
Yes it was a bit of a let down at the end and yes I did want to find out more from their previous lives in Switzerland but all in all this book is worthy of 4 very sizzling stars.
Right from the very beginning my heart was already invested in Sallie’s story. My heart just broke for her when she realizes that Jacob does not remember her after three days of the most memorable nights of her life and then three years going by with her basically trying to stay away from him. Jacob has noticed her around after their “first” introduction 3 years before, there is something about her that he recognizes but could not quite grasp from where. Now they are in the same bar and Jacob decides he is done waiting around. The pull of Jacob was too strong for Sallie and is engaged in another explosive night.
As the story moves along, we learn so much more about Sallie. She is actually on the run and has been trying to keep a low profile. Jacob also has a story that explains why Sallie seems so familiar to him but can’t seem to remember. When all is revealed and danger surrounds Sallie, Jacob is determined to keep her safe and never letting her go.
There are so many twists and turns and secrets everywhere! Sallie and Jacob’s story definitely kept me on my toes. Like in many of Lora Leigh’s books the chemistry between the characters are off the charts, the steam factor is definitely high. I only had the problem with the ending, there is a HEA but I felt like it ended too abruptly.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for giving me the opportunity to read this complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
Six years ago Sallie meet a man in Switzerland, they spent three days in bed and when he went out one day, he never returned. Broken hearted she returns home and gets married. She is served with annulment papers a year later and then attacked in her home. She has been running for her life for five years and when she reached Deer Haven, she saw the man she thought she’d never see again. Jacob is a former CIA agent turned rancher and very protective of his family and friends. He is known to not date anyone from his town, when he takes Sallie home one night. Something about her is familiar but he just can’t figure it out. When her past catches up with her and secrets are revealed, can Jacob keep her safe?
First off, don’t pay attention to the description on GOODREADS. If you want to know about the book, read the description on Amazon. The only reason I didn’t give five stars was because the main characters dialogue ran together. That absolutely drives me crazy because I sometimes I have to go back and reread a paragraph or two to understand what’s going on. Secrets, sex, and suspense. Be prepared for a cold shower after reading this .
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Wow. I was grabbed from the first pages, my heart was wrenched around and twisted, and then I had to wait for all of Sallie’s/Kyra’s secrets to come out, right alongside Jacob’s. She’s terrified and broken-hearted, he’s drawn to the woman no one seems to be able to nail down, and then the trouble starts. We’re taken on a ride full of revealed secrets, mystery upon mystery, and the ultimate heartbreak for Sallie before all is said and done. Jacob just has to keep her alive through it all, while he makes her realize how deeply he loves her and how unwilling he is to ever let her go again.
I couldn’t put this book down and can’t wait to see what comes next. I really hope it’s Justice getting his takedown by a certain woman with less than stellar aim when hurling frying pans…
