The newest erotic romance from bestselling author Opal Carew, Stroke of Luck. Good things do come in threes. April Smith’s luxurious Las Vegas wedding crashed and burned when her wealthy fiancé cheated on her and left her with a hotel bill that costs more than she makes in a year. Even more humiliating, her college ex-boyfriend Quinn Taylor has come to her rescue and bailed her out. They … come to her rescue and bailed her out. Super Sexy M-F-M read that brings together college sweethearts April and Quinn. And oh, Quinns’ best friend Austin. The chemistry between these three or scorching and I loved how two alpha men step in to take care of April, when she’s at the lowest point in her life. Also great that April cheating ex gets his due and April, Quinn, and Austin find their HEA with each other.
Different than my normal read but enjoyed the passion.
Stroke of Luck by Opal Carew is the story of Quinn Taylor, Austin Wright and April Smith.
April and Quinn had one time dated in college so this was a second chance romance with a twist. April was in Vegas to get married to the man she has been with and engaged to for the past two years. But she catches him cheating on her and he ends up leaving. But now she is without money or anything due to the fact that the former ex was in control of her finances. But who comes to her rescue is Quinn and she makes a bargain with him to be with him for the month. But Quinn is very close to his best friend and business partner Austin. Quinn sees the attraction between April and Austin which leads him to add Austin to the mix. This was a hot and steamy read.
A delectably steamy delve into life with two men! The heroine has just been humiliated by the man she was supposed to be walking down the aisle with when her college sweetheart happens by to save the day. Temptation and life’s circumstances pave the way for a naughty agreement to fulfill his every wish for a month … including pleasing his best friend and business partner as well!
The heat is high and the characters are likable. A little more substance to pushing the plot deeper would have been ideal, but I enjoyed the flirty feel to it as a fast paced get away.
I enjoyed this steamy erotic romance with complex characters and a steamy MFM romance that kept me entertained and intrigued from start to finish. I liked the attraction and undeniable chemistry between April Smith and business partners Quinn Taylor and Austin Wright. This is the first book I have read by Opal Carew but I would like to read more by this gifted author. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Overall this was a fun read. The genre for this book is spot on. This is a second chance romance centered around Vegas. This book is not my favorite as I like more of a story and plot but it was quick to read. This is a book I could take or leave.
*I received this free book from NetGalley and am leaving my honest opinion*
Quinn never forgot the girl who broke his heart. So when he finds her in his hotel, crying from discovering her fiancé cheating on her, you’d think he’d walk away to leave her in pain. But no, he pays her hotel bill and brings her to his suite and ends up indulging in an “arrangement” of sorts that will allow her to pay back her debt. Will this end up being a second chance for Quinn and April? What about the third part of their arrangement Austin, Quinn’s best friend and business partner? Will the three of them find feelings start developing or will it truly just be sex as Quinn declares in the beginning?
Hmm, this menage did not quite work for me. Purely from an erotica standpoint, I guess it was good, but as a fully rounded, second chance, MFM romance, it did not work. I did not like Quinn for one, he was an ass and the arrangement he forced April into was seiously shady. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a good blackmail romance, but the way Quinn executed it just felt wrong, gave me the heebie jeebies. April was an OK character, but she didn’t particularly stand out in any way, she was a bit meek and cardboard-ish. Austin, though, saves the whole story and kept me from taking even more stars off. I loved him – he’s sweet and sexy, and really deserved better than a threesome with two exes.
April has found herself in a precarious situation. Her fiancee has left her with nothing but a debt that she cannot pay. As chance would have it, a man from her past appears when there seems to be no reasonable hope. The couple makes a deal, and Quinn asks April to rekindle their past romance for the month of his Las Vegas vacation. The catch is that Quinn’s business partner Austin will share in their relationship.
Stroke of Luck is a steamy romance fantasy I was granted a copy of from Netgalley and St. Martin’s Griffin. April is reticent in the beginning about revealing her attraction to Austin, but soon enjoys the touch of the two attractive men. Quinn embarks on the relationship as a sort of revenge for past slights but realizes what April truly means to him. This story is very passionate and very adult. I suggest only those looking for a highly sensual romance venture here. Stroke of Luck is a quick read. April, Quinn, and Austin fit nicely into their roles and are likable enough. With this story, one gets what one would expect, and that is certainly enough.
April Smith has longed for stability in her life. She thought she had it with Quinn Taylor, her college boyfriend, but when she realized he was more into to studies than her, she cut her losses. April finally thought she had found all what she desired in Maurice Dubois but at their rehearsal dinner she found him with another woman. Furious, April calls off her wedding. Much to April’s surprise, she finds out that Maurice left and stuck her with the $100,000 hotel bill. Next thing she knows all of her belongings are being removed by hotel management because Maurice said they belonged to him. April finds herself alone and crying in the hotel lobby and who should walk by, Quinn! Quinn has never forgotten April and he agrees to pay off her debt even though he doesn’t trust her. He believes she is just a gold digger. April wants to pay Quinn back, even though she doesn’t have any money so they come to some type of agreement……Opal can spend the next month with Quinn and his best friend and business partner, Austin Wright and help fulfill all of his secret fantasies! Having no choice, April agrees. As this threesome spends some scorching hot times together, real feelings start to emerge. Now April, Quinn and Austin need to decide how they really want to spend the rest of their life.
If you are looking for a hot, fun read, give this one a try. I just adored Austin. He was so sweet and giving always knowing the right thing to do. April I had a harder time connecting with and Quinn was just ok but together they provides some very hot times.
When April’s wedding is cancelled cause her fiancé cheated on her it was horrible but now he stuck her with a hotel bill she can’t pay her luck changes when her ex Quinn bails her out and she wants to barter a deal to pay him back but it surprised by the details of what he wants when it also involves his business partner. Super steamy
And she’s back! I have enjoyed Opal Carew’s books in the past but the last couple fell a little flat that is until this one because it is exactly what I was hoping for from her.
April Smith and Quinn Taylor had a relationship in college but she called things off and started dating Maurice Dubious who she was planning on marrying. Only things didn’t exactly turn out the way they should have when she found him cheating on her the night before they were to say I DO.
Quinn and Austin Wright, Business partners and friends, are in Vegas taking a much needed vacation after a big project they were working on was completed when Quinn runs into April who broke his heart years earlier.
Quinn helps April out of a tough spot and you could tell not only that he still had feelings for her but she did as well. I loved the chemistry between April and both men. Opal did a wonderful job with this story and I hope to see more of this type of writing from her in the future.
If you enjoy steamy menage contemporary romances with a second chance at love element I would recommend this book to you.
Happy Reading!!!
Stroke of Luck by Opal Carew was a steamy 5 star read.
April is in Las Vegas for her wedding but when she finds her fiance with someone else it all shatters around her. Because of who his family is he has turned everything around on her and has left her holding the hotel bill for a luxurious hotel suite. While being evicted she comes face-to-face with the man in the other suite. Someone she hasn’t seen in years, Quinn.
Quinn was shocked to see April in the hotel and quickly came to her rescue. She was the woman he thought he was going to spend his life with until she left. Not wanting to be in Quinn’s debt April makes him an offer that is too hard to turn down. He includes his partner and best friend Austin as well. Can they keep their feelings out of it?
Overall I really enjoyed this book. The connection between all three of them was great. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. The ex really was a jerk and I couldn’t believe the crap he pulled on her. I had some LOL moments and we get some really steamy moments as well. The author did a great job with her writing and pulls you right in.

Wowza! This book was HOT. This is the first story I have read by this author but it will not be the last. O.M.G. It starts off with a bang when April wakes up with a wedding band on her finger and 2 men who are not her fiance. That ex-fiance of hers, what a douche! Anyway, the chemistry between Quinn, April and Austin was off the charts. This book had an interesting storyline and have I mentioned it was hot? Stroke of Luck was an enjoyable story and I look forward to checking out this author’s backlist.
ARC received via NetGalley.
I thought this was a good read. This book was very steamy and a bit emotional. I could feel for Riana and for Quinn. This is a second chance for them but it is also a MFM ménage romance that adds a new player into the mix. Quinn, Riana and Austin generate boatloads of heat and sparks. This is my frank, freely posted review.
Scorching hot romance!
April Smith doesn’t know what she is going to do when she caught her now ex-fiancé with someone else and he left her the bill for their now canceled Las Vegas wedding and the hotel wants their money. April is bailed out by her college boyfriend Quinn Taylor who is in town with his business partner Austin Wright. She wants to pay Quinn back, but he suggests spending a month with him and Austin. Could that lead to something more?
Opal Carew is known for writing hot and sexy romances but this time she has raised to bar to scorching!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Stroke of Luck is my first Opal Carew book. I am not familiar with the authors writing style. It almost worked for me, because hello, the steamy scenes were through the roof! But I almost felt like I was all over the place from the beginning to 3/4 of the story. I couldn’t connect with the characters. The multiple POVs were okay, but I am use to it being per chapter. Again, this is my first time reading this author so I tried to adapt to the writing style.
The characters were in their bubble. In that bubble it made sense, but when they were in real world situations, it was a little overwhelming.
I still read each page. I would of liked to have a little more background open the ex fiancé and the past that was meant to go one direction but went another. I think this story will be for a lot readers, and I did honesty enjoyed this story.
Stroke of Luck is absolutely amazingly steamy. A cancelled wedding, a second chance meeting, a poker game turned erotic and you have all the ingredients for a super charged story. April is looking for security in her life and thought she’d found it with Maurice. But it was not to be. Not only is her wedding now off, but she is left holding the bag. In comes our savior Quinn who she hasn’t seen in years. A deal is made, past hurts released, secrets unfolded and soon you have passion like you’ve never seen. Definitely steamy and erotic. 3.5 stars for me.
Found this to be an entertainingly, humorous romance. The characters are delightful with deep connections and terrific chemistry. Was impossible to put this amazing book down. Well worth the read!
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book; all opinions expressed are my own.
I’ve only read a couple of books by Opal Carew prior to reading Stroke of Luck, one of which I really didn’t like and one that I did like, and since the Netgalley blurb sounded intriguing, I requested an advance reader copy of this one, and while I was pretty much hooked by the prologue, and was hoping for a great read, in the end, I had very mixed feelings about this novel, and can only give it a 3 star rating–it was an okay read, but not a great one.
The basic story line isn’t a new or original one, April Smith, the heroine, is in Las Vegas for her wedding to wealthy Maurice, to whom she’s been engaged for the past two years. On the night before her wedding, she finds Maurice having sex with another woman, and the wedding is off. April doesn’t want to hear his explanations, realizes that he never really loved her, and after crying her eyes out, by the next morning, Maurice is gone, leaving her with an unpaid $100,000 hotel bill, no credit card (they had a joint one), and no money. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he then contacts the hotel management and demands that April return his engagement ring, as well as everything he ever bought for her, leaving her with not much more than a few toiletries and items of clothing he didn’t buy for her, no job (he owns the company where she worked), and no place to live (his company held the mortgage on her townhouse).
As April is sitting in the hotel lobby, brokenhearted, broke, and in shock, her stroke of luck appears, in the form of Quinn, her college boyfriend, and his friend and business partner, Austin, now both multi-millionaires. Quinn was once in love with April, but now assumes she left him for Maurice because she was just a gold-digger, and in college he wasn’t rich. Quinn wants revenge because when April chose Maurice over him, she broke his heart. Quinn, without being asked, pays off her hotel debt, but April insists on somehow, someway, paying him back, and then the trio goes off on a drinking binge to raise April’s spirits.
The next morning, April wakes up in bed with both Austin and Quinn, notices they are all wearing wedding bands, and is shocked to learn that she’s now married to both men. Quinn finally comes up with a way for April to repay him–sleep with both him as her Master, as well as Austin, for the next month, do whatever they want her to do, annul the marriage thereafter, and, with no alternatives, she eventually agrees.
This certainly wasn’t quite the M/F/M menage romance I was expecting, which was part of the problem I had with this novel, because although there were more than enough sex scenes, they all became rather redundant and unimaginative, except for one scene near the end, and Austin, who has only just met April, comes off as a much nicer guy than Quinn does. Had these two men done this sort of thing before? It’s a question I felt should have been answered at some point, yet it was never addressed.
Beyond the all too frequent sex scenes, these three seem to get along quite well, until Maurice starts texting his apologies to April, and wanting her back, not only making Quinn jealous, but making it clear, as least to Quinn, that April is only interested in his money, and affirming his complete lack of trust in her. And yes, I had a problem with April as well. How does a woman, who, when dating Quinn, was saving her virginity for marriage, and who, in the ensuing years, has only slept with one man since then, Maurice, suddenly have no problem entering into a menage, when she’s only just met Austin? With all the time and verbiage spent on April’s feelings about herself, I found that she came off as rather shallow. I simply couldn’t buy into a woman who just lost the man she’d loved for two years and planned to marry, suddenly jumping into a menage, no matter how hot the men involved were, or the debt Quinn repeatedly told her that he didn’t want repaid.
I had problems with Quinn as well. Other than April’s looks, and her willingness to accept becoming his and Austin’s sex slave for a month, what exactly were his reasons for loving her? His feelings seemed to go from hot to cold and back again with regularity. If he had such feelings, they certainly weren’t explained to this reader. In fact, the only character in this novel I actually did like was Austin, but we never really learn his story either.
If you’re new to menage romance fiction, you’ll probably find this an easy, enjoyable, somewhat sexy, second chance romance, but as someone who has read more than a few menage romances, I found this novel and its characters to be rather under-developed, not terribly exciting or sexually creative, and all in all, rather shallow.
As stated at the outset, I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions stated are my own.
I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review.
April is in Vegas to get married but she catches her fiance cheating. Now the wedding is off and she is stuck with a huge hotel bill. While the hotel staff is searching for things her fiance bought at the hotel gift shop, a man happens to walk into the room. Turns out the man is her old college boyfriend. Can this day get any worse for April?
Quinn hadn’t seen April since college and thought he never would see her again, not since she left him for another man. One who had more money, at least that is what he thought. After Quinn hears about April’s troubles, he makes her an offer and it is one she can not refuse because she has nowhere else to go.
Spending the month with Quinn and Austin might be fun but not falling in love with them will be hard. She tells Austin about her troubles with her ex-fiance, what all he took from her. Why she can go home and he feels that they can work something out.
This story was good and has the potential to be better, it seemed to be wishy-washy at times. I liked the idea of April with Quinn and Austin and the way they were with her. The threesome was great together. Although Quinn had to learn the real reason why she ditched him in college and that helped him towards her but he seemed to want to be hateful almost. Anyway, I liked it and will be looking for the next story from this author.
