The newest erotic romance from bestselling author Opal Carew, Stroke of Luck. Good things do come in threes. April Smith’s luxurious Las Vegas wedding crashed and burned when her wealthy fiancé cheated on her and left her with a hotel bill that costs more than she makes in a year. Even more humiliating, her college ex-boyfriend Quinn Taylor has come to her rescue and bailed her out. They … come to her rescue and bailed her out. They didn’t part on the best of terms and never expected to see one another again.
For Quinn, April was the one who got away and despite the heartache she caused him, he’s never gotten over her. Not wanting to be in his debt, April makes Quinn a tempting offer: she’ll spend the next month with him during his Vegas vacation, fulfilling his fantasies. Being with April has always been Quinn’s number one fantasy, and next on the list is sharing a woman with his best friend and business partner, Austin Wright. Since he can see an undeniable attraction between April and Austin, he makes that a condition of their deal, too.
Enjoying the attention and affection from two hot and handsome men, April gives in to her desires to be with both of them. But with those desires comes a growing love that she fears may force her to choose between Quinn and Austin–or lose them both.

On the eve of her wedding, April catches her fiancé with another woman and calls off the wedding. The next day April is given some news that is financially devastating and unexpectedly Quinn comes to her rescue. A deal is struck between April and Quinn that includes his best friend and partner. The story mainly deals with April and her relationship with both men which is very sensual and erotic. There is a lot going on in this story which includes a second chance relationship between April and Quinn and the sharing of her with the two men. I enjoyed the story and the development of their relationships. This is a story that is a good read.
I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.
A five alarm hot and steamy story. Riana finds herself being shared between her ex Quinn and his best friend Austin. She is open and vulnerable after being left in Vegas by her fiancé. It is a story of sexual exploration for her as she finds out how far she is willing to go for love and independence. It shows a sweet side of these two guys who takes care of her and tries to protect her.
This book was my first by Opal Carew and I truly enjoyed it. The plot was a bit on the faster side but it had been a very welcomed steaming hot ride. April has been shy all her life and because of her past, she wants just one….to be loved and cared for. When she thought she´s found her HEA and finally could get married, she has caught him cheating on their wedding date. Not only was the wedding off but because of his big ego, he left her humiliated and with a load of debt. Right at the worst moment of her life Quinn – her college sweetheart walks into the mess and takes over her debts. She has never expected to see him again after things were left, yet here he was being her hero. They made an arrangement…she would be his for the next month. What she hasn´t expected was to get into ménage à trois and fall in love with Quinn and his best friend. But because of her past, she wants to stay independent and doesn´t want to be seen as a golddigger. Can all of them meet their expectations and build trust again?
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an ARC. I’m leaving this review voluntarily, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Solid 3.5 star, rounded up.
I picked up this title first and foremost because I loved the cover. It drew me in to read the blurb, which further piqued my interest, and so I hit the “request” button. I’ve never read anything by this author before, so I can’t speak to her work as a whole, but this one was definitely a steamy, easy read. It was a fairly low-angst Cinderella story—with two Princes for the price of one—and featured a healthy handful of tropes weaved into the plot with believable ease.
My biggest hangup—and what primarily prevents this read from being a 4 star or above for me—was the constant and frequent POV shifts. I experienced some pretty severe readerly whiplash and often wasn’t positive whose head I was in, which made a story with three leads extra complicated to follow.
Other than that, if you go into this read expecting exactly what it advertises—a hot, sexy erotica held up by some pretty solid characters and well-done tropes—then I think you’ll enjoy the book. It definitely delivers well in those areas.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of this book. I am leaving a voluntary review and all thoughts/opinions are my own.
Holy hotness. This is a steamy read, folks. If you like your erotica with a side of angst, then this might be the perfect book for you. It’s mostly sex—to the point I sadly skimmed a few of the scenes because they started to get a bit repetitive—but if I’d been in a slightly different headspace, I might’ve devoured them and reread them too. I was just looking for a bit more substance during this particular read, so found myself glazing over when yet another one appeared.
I adored the three leads—April, Quinn, and Austin. Although it was sometimes a bit confusing with the frequency we hopped between their POVs, and they didn’t have the most unique voices, they were sweet and genuinely flawed. (Well, except for Austin… he was kind of a little too perfect, if you catch my drift.)
If you’re looking for a steamy summer read, then I would definitely recommend this book. However, if you want something with a bit more substance, perhaps shelve this one until you’re craving some good book p0rn.
I’ve always wanted to read an Opal Carew book, especially one that was menage, my favorite fantasy. For me to be granted this book on NetGalley was a Stroke of Luck (yeah I know) because it is also another favorite, a second chance story! Oh happy days. This book didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait for my next Opal Carew story.
April Smith just wants to be loved and not abandoned once again. Unfortunately she caught her rich fiance Maurice cheating on her the day before the wedding. She calls it off and he sticks her with the hotel bill she can’t begin to pay. When Quinn happens upon her and the hotel security manager outside the suite next to his packing her up he quickly realizes it’s his old college girlfriend April. It soon becomes apparent the hotel is demanding she vacate and pay the bill that she can’t begin to cover. He steps in to help the damsel in distress. He and his partner Austin has spent their time since college amassing a fortune and now are on vacation looking for love in their lives. Quinn never understood why April dumped him in college but assumed she was a gold digger given she jumped right into Maurice’s arms in college. As he spends time with her he finds he wants closure and the sex he never got in college. So he makes her a deal to protect his heart, a month with him and his partner Austin that includes sex with both of them. Oh dear, what’s a girl to do…? She agrees and tells him she plans to pay him back for the hotel bill someday.
I enjoyed the interplay between these characters. I liked the close friendship between Austin & Quinn, the differences in their personalities that works together for them. I liked April and her struggle for security and to know she was valued and loved by those in her life. She finds it with these two men as Quinn begins to see April for who she really is thanks to Austin. I knew Ms Carew would give me a quality story and she did.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was my first read from Opal Carew so I wasn’t sure what to expect as far as writing style or storytelling. Several of my reader friends are big fans and urged me to try one of her books so I was thrilled when I was able to get an ARC through Netgalley of this release.
April has gotten herself into quite a predicament, all thanks to her POS fiance. Her ex-boyfriend Quinn happens upon her at the most inopportune time but graciously bails her out. After the ex-fiance basically takes everything from her and ruins her life, Quinn and his business partner Austin take her in. As a solution to repay them, April offers them her body for the next thirty days. Quinn has been itching to get Austin in on some threesome action with a woman and this is the perfect opportunity.
I’m fine with all that, but the way it is presented just made it feel a little unbelievable to me. Maybe it’s the third person narrative or the way it’s written, I’m not entirely sure, but I wasn’t really feeling this whole situation. Part of it I think had to do with the way Quinn initially treated April so horribly. I understand he was heartbroken by her back in college, but he wasn’t winning any point with me. Now Austin I really liked.
This story has a ton of sex in it. Like, a ton. To the point where I skimmed some scenes until it got back to the actual story. I realize that is the point of the story, in this case an MFM story, but there needs to be a balance for me between the sex scenes and the actual story line.
Overall, I enjoyed the premise of the story and I enjoyed the interactions between all three, mostly Austin. It’s a very steamy, sexy read so be prepared for that!
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an advanced review copy of this story in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Stroke of Luck is erotica to its core. With a porn worthy plot, Opal Carew will have you along for the ride in no time. It’s thick and hard with naughty times. However, the shallow thrusts are just for foreplay. There’s no depth of character or any real connection for the reader to bind with the characters. This is definitely a read for a quick “solo” mission. I am usually a big fan of MFM but this one just didn’t do it for me.
Readers may enjoy the just desserts though. Nothing like a revenge… or should I say get over him romp?!
Stroke of Luck has it all! A great storyline, twists and turns, humor, off-the-charts chemistry, heartbreak, second chances, plenty of feels, drama, oh, and plenty of hot and engaging scenes.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
Unfortunately, this story did not draw me in like others from Opal Carew. While the premise was amusing and, of course, hot, it was somewhat choppy to follow. Within the same paragraph, for example, the story would quickly move ahead, seemingly skipping a natural transition into the next story development. It was almost as if there were gaps in time between when one sentence was written and the next.
Perhaps the reviewing copy was an unedited version? Unfortunately, this issue was a little too distracting as a reader…
Stroke Of Luck is a steamy, melt your e-reader, contemporary romance by Opal Carew. This is a M/F/M menage story, so it may not be for everyone. Ms. Carew has provided readers with a well-written book with a stellar cast of characters. April was dumped the day before her wedding, left with the hotel bill and her credit card canceled. To add insult to injury, the hotel even had directions from her runaway groom to take her clothes and jewelry since he paid for them. When Quinn came across he ex from college being tossed from her hotel suite he had to step in. He made a deal with April that included his best friend Austin. Quinn, April and Austin’s story is 5 alarm fire hot and loaded with drama and humor. I enjoyed reading Stroke Of Luck and look forward to reading more from Opal Carew in the future. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is my first read by this author. The prologue hits you with a bang. April waking up to two men who aren’t her fiance. This book was very hot with lots of sex. Unfortunately towards the end I started skimming some of the sex scenes. It needed just a little bit more drama. Would have been great to see the ex see April happy with her two husbands and him miserable.
It was a quick read and won’t be my last by this author. Thankyou Netgalley for approving me to read this arc in an exchange of an honest review.
This is one of the hottest MFM stories I have read in a very long time.
This story is about second chance love with an added bonus!
Opal Carew writes a romantic, thrilling tale about 2 men and a woman who fall into a commitment and all the complications that come with such a relationship.
April is jilted before her wedding when she catches her fiance with another woman on the eve of her wedding. Defeated, sad and destituted she is left with the bill for the whole affair and stripped of all her worldly possessions. While having an issue with the hotel in Vegas she meets an ex boyfriend Quinn. And his business partner Austin He agrees to help her, but he has unresolved anger and issues against April. However as the story unfolds and their journey begin, they both come to some clear realization about their past and what the future might be for the three of them. This is not a story for the faint of heart, their steamy sexy encounters will more than steam up your ereaders it will make you longing for something like this. Two imperfect men to make a woman happy, protected , safe and cherished. This is another great story by this author.
3 stars
April, a woman who grew up in the foster system, is in Las Vegas to get married but at the rehearsal dinner she finds her fiancé having sex with another woman. She is devastated. The next morning she is thrown out her room and her ex leaves her with the bill. Down the hall, Quinn exits his room and sees April, who is his ex and she left him in college, which he thought was because he had no money. Quinn and his best friend Austin are there to start their new life of leisure. They made a bundle off their company for cryptocurrency. Quinn pays her bill and April comes up with a way to pay him back, she will sleep with him. Quinn agrees but he wants to share her with Austin. They all become involved but will they all end up with a broken heart?
Ok first off, I know it’s an ARC but some of the dialogue ran together and some was separated too much. I like to be able to tell who’s talking or thinking. Ménage. M/F/M sex. And a second chance at love.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
4 Stars for Stroke of Luck by Opal Carew
ARC received from Netgalley & Publisher in exchange for an honest review. Opinions expressed are my own & have not been influenced in any way ….
I am fairly new to M/F/M genre & I have to say it might not normally be my “jam” I’m definitely more of a one /one relationship but this book is just off the charts HOT!! I will definitely be checking out this author’s back list.. So glad I gave it a read …
Let me just begin by saying how much I liked the cover & it immediately got my attention – also the setting is a favorite – being Las Vegas
Great story … April comes to Vegas for her wedding only to catch her fiancé in the act of cheating on her – she breaks things off but Maurice being the spiteful – wealthy – connected person that he is leaves her with a mountain of debt in her hotel bill & wedding expenses – even being so low as to demand back his engagement ring & the designer clothes off her back …. as April sits outside her penthouse suite waiting to be thrown out & berated by the hotel manager she meets up again with Quinn – her old boyfriend – the one in fact she left for Maurice ….
Quinn has never really gotten over April & offers to help her by paying her debt. He has also never forgiven her for breaking up with him with little to no explanation. Quinn’s friend Austin is also at the hotel – the two are very successful businessmen – both attracted to April. April insists on paying Quinn back somehow and they enter into a one month – no strings attached relationship. The only stipulation is that she agrees that Quinn & Austin will share her for the month.
You can’t help but love these (2) guys – although Quinn has definitely been burned by April – after now understanding her abandonment issues as a child and several foster care situations she never knew what it felt like to be loved or safe – confusing feelings of security for love.
The only reason I did not rate this 5 stars is that I would have liked to see how all three characters were doing a few months to a year down the road. Things ended a little abruptly & selfishly I just wanted to see more of these three living together day to day !
Really great book !!
