Sydney Rye is hanging out in India with her boyfriend, Dan, reading paperbacks and sipping beer. No violence and no reminders of her past. But when she and Blue, are attacked by a pack of wild dogs, Sydney starts to feel that old itch again; to do good by being bad.
Trouble finds Rye when she stops the attempted rape and murder of Anita, a reporter working on a story of corruption and child … child trafficking. The atrocities Anita describes send Sydney, Blue and Dan on a quest that takes them across India after a dangerous and, up until now, untouchable, figure. Sydney struggles to accept her true nature, fearing that she will lose herself, becoming no better than the monster she fights against. But what can Sydney do when she realizes it is the only way to end decades of abuse and exploitation?
Emily Kimelman’s best selling Sydney Rye series feature a strong female protagonist and her canine best friend, Blue. It is recommended for the 18+ who enjoy some violence, don’t mind dirty language, and are up for a dash of sex. Not to mention an awesome mystery with tons of action that will keep you reading late into the night.

Love this series. Kickass strong resourceful heroine and if anything happens to Blue- just end the series
I enjoy the Sydney Rye series mostly for escapism. The story lines seem plausible and realistic, but her actions and reactions are more Wonder Woman than real.
Sydney Rye and her dog, Blue, save a young woman from being raped and murdered by henchman of an abusive monster. Sydney gets involved in a plan to rescue innocent children from the monster who buys and abuses them before discarding or killing them.
I love the whole series!
All the Sydney Rye books are great.
I don’t really know how authors write. This book goes deep into a story and culture that I could ever imagine. The story is great. I’m really hoping Sydney will eventually find some peace. I think she is a fighter and should never lose that. I just hope there will be people that will be trusted in the end.
Intriguing situation and plot brought to life by characters passionate about life and what’s right. I read late into the night until my eyes just wouldn’t focus anymore. I picked it back up at 89% at breakfast, dove back into Sydney’s adventure, rapidly finishing the story. Now I have the next book in my reading queue.
I enjoy this tough character plowing through her grim, demanding world with her dog at her side. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
Love Sydney Rye!!!!! She reminds me of all the other badass female characters I have come to love and adore: Mac Lane (KMMoning), Mercy Thompson (PBriggs), Sam Martin (DDunbar), Jade Crow (ABellet), Charley Davidson (DJones) just to name a few. Don’t even get me started on Big Blue!!!!! As a lifelong dog mama, I pretty much love anything with …
I enjoyed this book. There are several twusts. And a great dog is involved.
main female characer is a bit too ‘wonder woman cartoon like’ but story was good…..characters were developed enough to be likeable and you wanted them to succeed……and maybe there are women that tough!!!!
Sydney maybe laying low in India but she has an itch for a fight a need to right a wrong. Still trying to find a purpose to fulfill, her friend suggests maybe working for the greater good by seeking justice where the system has failed. This book deals with a harsh reality that goes unspoken. Heads turn the other way and mouths stay closed. No one …
Have read a few of Sydney Rye Mysteries, always a good story…
Sidney/Joy deals with the tragedy of her former life as she makes a new way for herself and Blue— with a little help from her friends— if one can call them that.
Love the main character and her relationship with her dog. Suspenseful, unpredictable, keeps you guessing
Very strange book. Not worth reading
This exciting book kept me on edge…easy reading let me finish in two days.
Never disappointed with this author and her Sydney Rye series. Always on the lookout for new books by her
Book was based on an unexplained premise. Must have been a prequel book.
Not as good as the first one by a long shot. I can’t put my finger on why. Perhaps in spite of the exotic local and good visuals, it all seemed a tad formulaic. I have decided not to pursue others in the series.
