San Francisco mystery . Good characters.
First novel I’ve read by this author. Enjoyed it so much I opened Amazon Prime and downloaded two more by him. Great characters in the novel!
Frankie’s older sister, Johnnie (a Mac Guffin of sorts) is missing & Poe, a casino owner and power in SF, sends her to Max. His search for Jonnie encounters low level street gangsters, prominent politicians and mistresses and Johnnie’s hippie landlords. Max and his friend, Hunter, are attacked repeatedly and mostly prevail. Johnnie is dead and the killer is an unlikely person. The book is action packed and entertaining, particularly with the character development of many of the actors.
Interesting plot with so many potential killers. Good story.
I really enjoyed Stray Cat Blues and look forward to future books from this author. It is a bit reminiscent of the Travis McGee series which I loved. This is set in the San Francisco bay area. When twelve-year-old Frankie steps onto his boat, Max has no intention of helping her find her lost big sister. Thus ensues a tangled web of secrets and lies involving small-time hoods, gangsters, corrupt politicians, paranoid hippies, and his long-time nemesis, a twisted casino operator at the heart of the city’s criminal trade. Can’t wait for the next Max Plank book.
A fun read!
as hard-boiled as they come and absolutely brilliant! we are talking the perfect 11 minute egg….
Absolutely BRILLIANT WRITING!!!
Max Plank is a P.I. In San Francisco. When a young girl asks him to find her older sister, how can he say no? But instead of sending for lawyers, guns and money, Max dives head first into a complicated and extremely dangerous case involving politicians, the mob, and the seedy underbelly of the city by the bay, with a breakneck plot that has more twists and turns than a Formula One racetrack. you will LOVE this book. ATTENTION HOLLYWOOD: fabulous opportunity for a TV series or movies.
Past the middle of the book , things were a bit jumbled. But towards the end it all smoothed out and became clear. I liked all the characters and the attention to detail. . I would definitely read another book by this author. Much potential just a few tweeks.
Great read
Very readable
Great read.
Good for fans of Parker’s Spenser.
Average at best
The characters were worthy of my time and the mystery was “mostly Fair” (ie not too much info was withheld so that i could “solve” it). A good read, all considered.
The suspense is nicely paced. Great thriller!
A “Travis McGee” look alike but with a convoluted plot. Kept reading, but the writer was so caught up in his various descriptions of people that he forgot to keep the plot viable. A waste of time.
Great read. Read it in one sitting. It’s kind of a mesh between Travis McGee and Myron Bolitar. I’m ready for book two!
Plank is a great character and very easy to like. It also helps that he has ‘batman’ to back him up! if you like Myron Bolitar by Harlan Coben you will like Plank.
