A true classic!
Read it and discover more than what you are.
I first read this book decades ago and loved it. I have reread it 2 or 3 times since and it remains one of my all time favoriteo books.
Not one of his best efforts.
One of my all time favorites
Heinlein is an engaging writer. He creates an alternative universe that you engage with. On the surface I would say that it’s an adventure for someone young, but then, with more world experience, one finds multiple layers of meaning
Thought provoking
Heinlein at his best. Does anything more need to be said?
This book changed my life as a teen, and has stayed with me my entire life. the ideas were utopian, idealistic and beautiful, and show us how broken the social norms were in the 60s. I fell deeply in love with SCI FI, and Fantasy, and this version of a “Messiah” trying to lead people to a deeper life has reminded me of the victories of individual freedom, and the costs. What sacrifice to a greater cause is about.
Apart from that, it is an utterly fascinating and compelling read, and I can’t imagine why someone hasn’t made this into a movie!!!
I have heard this book called the bible of the hippies. It certainly contributed to the development of the counterculture.
Classic Sci-Fi read. Every Sci-fi fan must read this great work
All of Heinlein’s works are quite thought provoking. In most cases, including this book, we the reader can put ourselves in the main character’s position and wonder what we might do under the circumstances. That does not detract from the entertainment of his stories. This is not a self help novel, even though it makes you think about things. This one and “Time Enough For Love” are my two favorites.
it was a bit confusing. the first time i read it, it made more sense to me. definitely worth your time to read
My life changed when I read the monkey scene… it was my life right there on a page.
One of my favorite books. I have reread this book multiple times.
At the time written, this book was a real mind-bender. The innocence of humanity coupled with the control of body and mind exhibited by the main character was unusual for the early 1960s. The first description of an internet-like box found in every home was in this book. (There is also a lively illustration of an e-book author at work.) Heinlein could not help teach while entertaining.
A weird read. I really don’t recommend it. Otherwise I like the author’s works.
This is my all time favourite book of all time. Hope everyone else will like it as much as I did! He’s born on mars, his parents are dead all three of them (lawyers even in space)! A ride with up and down twists and turns with laughs and head scratches.
Read Robert Heinlein as a child and have made a concerted effort to revisit his work as an adult. I had never read “Stranger In a Strange Land.” The book was fascinating. It is somewhat dated, however the issues it addresses could not be more timely. Heinlein is, at heart, a political writer, and his views on freedom and individual rights permeate and drive the book relentlessly. A great story. Recommended.
An Asimov book I have read many times.
