it has always been one of my favorite books in spite of the way he framed women, not just as objects but as appendages. That said he was a man of a certain generation. Michael Valentine Smith remains one of my favorite characters.
One of my all time favorite books. Love the concept of the fair witness.
This is the third time I’ve read this title. It could be a life altering read depending on the philosophical mindset of the reader. This is my favorite Heinlein novel.
It’s a classic ‘alien experience’ any one can relate to.
Seminal science fiction.
It’s a classic!
This is the best book written by RA Heinlein. He still had his edge and applied it fiercely to this book. The reissued book was even better. More detail, more thoughtful.
Great book!
This is a book not to be missed. I have read it a number of times. It is mind expanding.
This has been my favorite book since I read it for the first time in high school. I have probably read Stranger in a Strange Land nearly a dozen times , and I’m really happy to have it now in an iAmazon format, so I can take it with me on my phone. Robert Heinlein was an excellent author, one of the best ever in science fiction, and this is probably his best book. It tells the story of a human born on Mars to members of an exploratory team, who then died, leaving the baby to be raised by Martians. He is unknown to earthlings until the next human trip to Mars more than two decades later, when the second expedition took him to Earth. How Valentine Michael Smith learns to be a human, but one very different from any other human because of his early life on Mars, is a fascinating story. He reads and memorizes entire encyclopedias and libraries, then must be helped to understand what it all means. Mike finds that the greatest thing about humans is that there are two sexes, with all their variety and glory, unlike the Martians. So he sets up a new church to explain his ideas and teach the Martian language to those who have progressed the furthest, to enable them to spread his story of love for all humans. Great novel!
One of my all time favorites!
The book is wonderful. However the e-reader version currently offered is not the full novel. Originally the publisher forced Heinlein to trim it way too much. A second version with the cuts restored is available in hard copy. The original as Heinlein wrote it is the one to read. NOT this one.
Classic Heinlein. That pretty much says it all.
I read and enjoyed this work shortly after it was published in 1961. It is still enjoyable today.
This, in my opinion, is one of the author’s greatest works among many great works.
Brilliant writing at the time of its publication. Slightly dated now but still very relevant.
A classic.
I really thought this was a great book in my twenties. Not sure why after reading it 40 years later.
The book maybe a little dated now but it was one of the best science fiction books I have ever read in my entire life
I love this classic book from Heinlein, and am rereading it for the first time in over 30 years. Still just as good over all these years.
