This is the very first sci-fi book I ever read, and I was hooked. It is mind-opening, original, and I still use some of the words and phrases from this book, e.g., grok.
Heinlein in his old age gives us juvenile musings on free love. Overrated.
This is my all time favorite book from Heilein! WWMD (what would Michael do) drove me through this book. Great outlook with different approach to seeing life. Truly inspirational literature!
The first of what I call Hieliend’s adult science fiction. Used as a text book for honor’s humanity at UofF in 1970/71 school year. Another book you will read over and over again and pick out another gem each time you re-read it.
Heinlein’s masterpiece of morality. Full of his irreverent and free thinking attitude about human beliefs and behavior.
I read this years ago in paper for. I am a Heinlien, Assimov and Bradbury lover. This book was way different from any I had read from these esteemed authors before. I consider this a must read for SF fans.
i HAVE READ THIS BOOK OVER AND OVER AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL I CAN’T READ ANYMORE.
Difficult to forget book – original thoughtful characters and fabulous situations that the author places them in.
Heinleins worst
It was interesting to read this classic work of Science Fiction so many decades after it was written. Much has changed in the world.
This book was quite promising at the outset. I was riveted, learning about a visitor to our planet who was adapting and improving. But it took a strange turn somewhere in the middle. We were in Costa Rica, then Washington D.C. – all over the map, really. I give the first half five stars. I give the second half 1 star. I’ll split the difference.
A timeless classic.
it is a classic
It’s a classic that still plays well today
Can not recommend, ridiculous characters and misogynistic attitude.
I read this book as a teenager. It helped to shape my view of society, religion and God.
One of the greatest science fiction books ever written.
One of my top 10 favorite books. I’ve read it approximately 7 or 8 times…and, unless I die I’ll read it another couple of times over the years.
My very favorite book by my very favorite author.
Perhaps the best work of SciFi ever. Before “Stranger” Heinlein was best known for adolescent science fiction. I grew up on “Space Cadet” “Tunnel in the sky” and others, but in HS in 1963 (?) I read this classic of serious adult oriented science fiction along with Asimov, Arthur C. Clark and other giants of the genre. I continue to read sciFi today but I don’t know that I have ever read better than Stranger in a Strange Land.
