I really like this book, lots of action and drama, and the romance didn’t develop until later in the book. Book was more about the characters and their worlds. You get flashbacks where main characters met and as they reach adulthood and met first as adults. The heroine you see grow into her rightful place and the hero stands by her and let her grow and kick arse. seem like a epic but not really, it’s fast paced ( I don’t like books that are less 200+ pages- yes some shorter books are good). Ms Sage made the book as a stand-alone but she can develop more of the secondary characters more.
A totally epic romance with people more powerful than Jedis!
Audiobook version: 5 stars overall, 5 stars story, 5 stars narration
For anyone who likes Star Wars and sci-fi romance, you will love this one! The author has created a new galaxy far, far away with detailed culture, politics, and magic usage. The early part of the audiobook (about 2 hours) is quite serious in tone because of the slavery and attempted child killing that happened to the main characters, but later some witty dialogue and humor lighten the mood. The slow burn romance is marvelous. Eventually, the few love scenes get kinky and ultra steamy. The characterization, dialogue, romantic development, pacing, and action scenes were all top notch! I love the spunky, independent-minded heroine Nalini and the broodingly determined hero Kai. I also love how this couple’s story is completed in this single book. I totally recommend this to everyone who likes steamy sci-fi romance and/or steamy PNR.
The Eris species is just like humans except they are 6 inches taller, have more endurance, and there is magically gifted person is born in 1 out of every 500 million births. These magical users can be telekinetic, telepathic, foreseeing, etc. The most powerful of these mages can access the energy around them, like Jedis in Star Wars. Nalini and especially Kai are among the most powerful mages in the galaxy. There is a terrible, King Herod-like situation going on. For the last thousand years, there has been a prophecy that a powerful dark mage will be reborn and threaten civilization. Therefore, there is a law to kill every mage as a child when they first exhibit their powers. This sets in motion the phenomenal plot in this awesome sci-fi fantasy romance. Don’t miss out on this audiobook, romance listeners!
The audiobook is exquisitely duet-narrated by Ava Erickson and Shane East. Shane East has a rich, sexy, deep voice. He gives Kai a gorgeous English accent. Ava Erickson breathes life into Nalini and all the female characters. These narrators did an absolutely perfect performance. They deserve awards for this one.

Reign is the first book of the Strands of Starfire Series, a great and sexy space fantasy romance. The cover is awesome. The characters a wonderful and intriguing. The world building is complex, original, and captivating. Shane East and Ava Erickson did an amazing job with the narration. I love their voices together. Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Diplomacy.
This is quite different from the other stuff I have read from May Sage and normally I am not a reincarnation fan but I am a May Sage fan and I love sci/fi and fantasy so I had to give this a go. At the end of the book she thanks everyone for making this her best book yet and she is right, it completely is the most amazing thing of hers I have read. The characters were interesting, they were not one dimensional. They felt and experienced so many things and you were along for the ride. The plot was action-packed and moved along at a good pace giving you insight into the characters but not bogging you down. I could not put this book down. I mean I straight up intended to read a few chapters, go to bed, and read some during my free time. Next time I look up its 2 am and I need to be up and ready for my day in 4 hours…so worth it! The only thing that disappointed me was the little sentence below the blurb that said the books in this series would be stand-alone. Because I would read a series about Nalani and Kai. They are easily some of my favorite characters. I especially loved watching Nalani turn into who she was meant to be and watching her and Kai interact once she was aboard his ship. The council’s reactions to the two of them were priceless. I couldn’t help but laugh. A good read no matter what you are into.
Loved w
odd misspellings. weak for week. or status for statue. But in general, a well thought out worldview
I love this author… I loved this book… can’t wait for the next one in this series!
This was a wonderful space fantasy novel with the works. It has tons of magic, war, politics, prophecies, and love. Kai and Nalini give me all the feels. I really loved Kai because he is a very harsh person who is willing to do anything to fight for what he believes in. When he is saved by Nalini as a child, it weaves a bond they will share across galaxies. But what I also loved is that Nalini’s glimpses into his future scares her and she sees him a cold blooded killer who bring darkness and destruction upon the world. When their path’s cross she starts to wonder who Kai truly is. Nalini is quite wonderful as you see the harsh life she lived and what a strong mage she is and how capable she is of protecting herself. The bond of mind, body, and spirit she shares with Kai is the best thing about this book. I loved their connection, it truly amazing.
I couldn’t get enough of this book. It was wildly entertaining and exactly what I’d hope for in a sci-fi novel with lots of magic. The story was done really well. I liked reading about how Kai and Nalini grew into the people they become by the end of the book. It makes it easy to connect to them and understand them.
