Enjoyed reading this story
So, this has been the first book I’ve read by this author. Unfortunately, the Story couldn’t convince me to keep going in the series.
Travis and Jordan both believe they are doing the right thing. But they are on completely opposite sides of the fence. When they crash and wind up on an island Travis starts to see Jordan in a different light. As they spend more time together Travis begins to see why Jordan is so determined. But the lies almost cost Travis his life. It is a wonderful story and shows how lying to someone can really backfire.
I’ve never read any of the Getaway Bay stories, but I have read many of this author’s other works, so when I was offered a copy of it to read, I didn’t hesitate too much! While it was an interesting story overall, I did have some issues with it.
Firstly, some of the business aspects of the story didn’t seem realistic to me. Why wouldn’t Jordan talk to Travis when she first came on, to learn the ins and outs of the day to day operations that could have changed while she was away? Why did Travis never tell Jordan of her father’s plans that they had spoke of before his death? Why go so far into debt before exploring other options for funding the company? I would have thought she would have had a plan in place for immediate growth, advertising or something of the like. It just didn’t make good sense to me!
Then, we get to the interaction between Travis and Jordan as a pair. He immediately set out to hurt her, without knowing one thing about the business side of the ranch, and came off like a petulant jerk in the process. Then, he decides he wants to make her fall in love with him so she’ll do whatever he wants…hello, manipulative much?!? I lost all respect for him there, and then he can’t believe that she’d rescue him from the plane? Yeah, not the greatest Bonnie Paulson hero out there. I liked how strong Jordan was, how she explained what she’d done to save the company, what the problems were that she’d inherited. She was pretty strong and cool in the crisis, despite her injuries, which I appreciated.
Finally, there’s the plot issues. I would have liked to known what caused the rift between Jordan’s brother and their father. Not enough detail was given there for my tastes. There’s some pretty abrupt shifts too, that came across rather glaringly in the story, and pulled me out of the immersion. There’s also no indication of what happened to the pilot, and other than Travis’ assumption that the pilot dragged him out of the plane, no further mention of him either. I have a hard time believing that they’d be so callous as to have no concern for him at all!
All things considered, while this is a shorter read of Ms. Paulson’s, there are better stories that she’s published available. I’m curious enough to see what’s next for the series, so I will be looking up Getaway Bay as soon as possible!
