In this powerful entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, Mercy Thompson must face a deadly enemy to defend all she loves… few months ago, I hadn’t stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who lived in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.
The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming and her name is Death.
But we are pack, and we have given our word.
We will die to keep it.

Mercy grabs you from page one and never lets you go till the end. You must read this ! I had not been that happy with the last two books but, “Storm Cursed” won my heart again. Patricia Briggs has always my one of my favorite authors of urban fantasy.
Patricia Briggs has done it again. A page turning adventure with Mercy Thompson Hauptman smack dap in the middle.
The government has contracted Adam’s security company to provide protection during meetings with the Gray Lords. With Adam in meetings and out of contact it’s Mercy that gets called when things get weird in the Tri-Cities. Boy do they get weird, starting with a criminal goblin, and a confrontation with Mary Jo’s ex Renny. No thanks to the Goblin King Larry.
Things get weirder as they called by a farmer to address miniature zombie goats. Yes, you read that right.
The goats lead to the discovery of black witches in town and that the pack’s witch Elizaveta’s family has been practicing Black Magic.
Mercy has her work cut out for her with not only the pack and the weirdness but also being recruited to find a venue for the big meeting.
We get to see not only Mary Jo, but also Ben, Zee, Tad, Uncle Mike, Larry aka goblin king, Stefan, Marsilia, we learn a lot more about Sherwood, and Wolfe plus Coyote inserts mischief as well.
As far as romance goes, well this isn’t that kind of novel, Adam and Mercy’s relationship grows in every book, but I have to say I’ll never think of the word ‘Nudge’ quite the same, ever.
This is a can’t put it down until your done book with action, lots of surprises, interesting information and so much more!
This is the latest in the series, and I have read them all. That said, this is a good addition. Still original, action packed, charming and wonderful characters.
I really like the protagonist Mercy because she is not the most powerful character in the story by a long shot, and doesn’t pretend to be. Mercy has your back, and will do whatever she can to help you and that is her secret super power. That moral power is what draws all the “big guns” to back her plays. This may be a “Supernatural Universe” but Mercy is the most human and believable character.
Love, love this series. The author creates wond Raul, 3 dimensional characters that you have to discover what happens to them.
I couldn’t put the book down until I finished it.
Always a wonderful read
Always happy to read another in this series – P. Briggs never disappoints!
very good read with likeable characters and good plot
Once again, Patricia Briggs wrote a stellar tale. I had a hard time putting the book down. It was a great addition to the Mercyverse!
Love Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series. This one holds true to writing in the first part of the series.
Great book, but darker and with more series setup
Book 11 in the Mercy Thompson series, while technically this could be read as a standalone, characters (Mercy in particular of course) and storylines carryover and evolve from book to book, so for the best reading experience, I recommend reading both this series and the intertwined Alpha and Omega series in order.
There’s a lot to unpack here; I’m in the middle of my second re-read as I’m writing this review and I’ll still picking up new bits and pieces. I loved the beginning with Larry, and that Sherwood Post, a relatively new character only introduced a couple of books ago, gets a big role. I also loved that Mercy’s own abilities continue to grow as she learns more about them.
This story felt darker to me overall than some of the earlier books, and with less of the humor that I love—maybe because I felt the villains of this one were particularly evil. Werewolves, vampires, even demons…a lot of what they do is driven by their nature, by what they are, but these villains (I’m trying to avoid spoilers, hence the lack of specifics)…they made a conscious choice to torture and kill innocents in order to increase their power. That’s about as evil as it gets in my book.
So, there were some parts that I found a little hard to read. Also, I thought this book seemed to be doing a lot of setup, and though it comes to a very definite conclusion, that conclusion seems less triumphant—or perhaps just more temporarily triumphant—than many of the earlier books, and I had a lot of unanswered questions at the end.
It’s still a great book; I didn’t want to put it down during my initial read and I’m sure I’ll be reading it time and time again, but the bar is set pretty high for this author. While it’s probably going to be one of my favorite reads for the year, I just don’t think this is going to be one of my favorite reads of the series. 5+ stars
Loved this book. Mercy confronts evil and saves the day. I highly recommend this book!
The long awaited continuation of Mercy Thompson/Hauptman and the pack finally arrived in my kindle. I was excited to say the least. Although the book didn’t exactly meet up to my expectations I wouldn’t say that I’m disappointed with the outcome either. I had wanted more personal development for the well beloved characters, but the storyline that was for sure kept me on my toes.
The things I love most about this series, as well as Alpha and Omega, is the defining and cleverly written personalities, the werewolf descriptions and pack dynamics and last but not least the romance. Storm cursed delivered on all three parts and I am happy that there were more sweet moments with the pack and also romantic scenes between Adam and Mercy, having been deprived of that in the previous book. While I am a big romance fan and wished the series contained and depended a bit more on Adam and Mercy together, I also understand that that is just my personal preference. Romance was never really the main genre after all so I am still happy with the love that I get from the books, even if I crave more sometimes.
I had however liked the story to go a bit deeper into the pack and the previous drama and dislike the pact had against Mercy. It was some there with Paul and Mary Joe, but it was more small recaps than anything. The plot with witches was thrilling for sure, but it also replaced the previous unsolved issues and aspects that came up previously in the series. The whole fae and Gray Lords for example took a back seat, as well as Aiden and them now pretty much being the “rulers” of the Tri-Cities and how they are going to handle that responsibility. However, I am not in the least worried, since it most likely means that this will be dealt with in future installments. If only I didn’t have to wait two years for the next book. I am already excited!
I devoured this book in two days, and it would have been sooner if I didn’t have to go to work!
I have given all of Patricia Briggs books in the Mercy Thompson series, five stars (except for book 10, which was four stars), but with book 11, she is back to writing in her fast, action packed style, that I love.
You would think with a book, and series, that I enjoy so much, I would go on and on about this book, but I don’t want to give any spoilers away if you’re a fan of this series. And if you’ve never read this series before, you really should start with the first one, Moon Called. But buy this one right now to help with author sales, so the series is able to continue!!!
Briggs does so much fantastic character development, that by starting with the first book, you can enjoy what an amazing job she does. And by starting with Moon Called, you’ll also be able to relish the wonderful world of werewolves, vampires, witches, and fae that she builds.
I will squee about one thing though, baby goat zombies.
I was so happy to be back in Mercy’s world. I am always recommending this series as I just love it. In this latest installment, Mercy is trying to keep her territory safe, even if it’s from zombie goats. However, something bigger is waiting to take over, and Mercy is racing to find Death before it’s too late for her and her friends. I loved the action in this book, and I just loved all the characters that were front and center. One thing really stuck out for me and that was we got to see more about Sherwood’s past. I am hoping we’ll see more in the next books. I did miss the ones we didn’t get to see, but that’s OK; it would get confusing if everyone was in on the action! I do have to say, though, there was just a tiny spark missing in this book, and I can’t put my finger on it. Not that this wasn’t a great book; it definitely was. I enjoyed every minute of reading. There was just…something. Anyway, I am glad to see Mercy again, as I’ve already said, and I’ll be glad when the next book comes out. I do recommend this book and was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
