This devotional provides encouragement and inspiration especially in these troubled times. Alexis A. Goring does an excellent job bring faith and real life experience together in a way that captured my attention.
Filled with Scriptures, stories and more, this book inspired me to delve deeper into my belief in God and strive for a deeper relationship with God. Sharing her own personal stories. Connecting stories and songs together adds to the power of this devotional. I found the 52 weeks of devotionals to be worth reading and examining. So check this book out for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
I have used and reviewed a lot of devotionals. They are each different and unique in their own way. This devotional ties a song to each of the devotionals with an inventory of songs at the back. I like this. I have been doing hymn studies with my kids and this gives me a bit of a hymn study on my own.
Not only does this have songs but it also has personal stories from the author. I love when you get real-life personal accounts that help to cement or solidify a topic. It just makes it more personal to me and I like that.
My favorite devotionals are those that last a whole year so you don’t make it halfway and then have to scramble for a new one. I think you’re going to love this book and it’s one I’m going to be keeping around.

Stories of Songs of Faith by Alexis Goring is a beautiful collection of 52 heartfelt devotions written by the author herself the help guide each of her readers through real life everyday issues. I love that each devotion starts with scripture to go with the devotion and at the end there are reflections to help understand the devotion and apply it to our lives. No matter when you read these devotions, there will be something in each to give you encouragement throughout the day.
If you are looking for a new devotion to start the new year, I encourage you to check this one out. Or maybe you need an extra devotion to read, this would be an really nice one to add to your collection. I give this one Four Stars

Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God by author Alexis Goring is an uplifting collection of fifty-two devotions. Personally I love devotional books. It is refreshing to read them at different times throughout the day. This one would easily slip into any time.
The author draws from her personal experiences and time with God to share with readers. While this is a weekly devotional, I kept reading them. The author’s style of writing is smooth and easy to understand. It felt like a conversation between friends. The stories are transparent and honest.
Each devotion contains scripture, a message or story, reflection questions, and a song. In the back of the book is a listing of song links. If reading on a Kindle, one just needs to click the link and the song begins playing. Genius!
This is a wonderful book filled with short devotions. I thought it was moving and gave me much to consider. I highly recommend it. It would make a perfect Christmas gift, and make sure to get a copy for yourself. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. A copy was provided by CelebrateLit but these are my own words.
I have to confess I read this book straight through, although it is designed to be used weekly. I wish I’d known that the song links were in the back when I read it on my Kindle because I definitely would have taken time to listen to each as I read the accompanying devotional connected with it. The author shares pertinent stories from her own life, illustrating God at work there. Her titles invite readers into her personal experiences, including “Hope for a Broken World,” “The Greatest Countdown,” and “Melody at Midnight.” This would be great to start in January and go through the year so the Christmas ones fall at the right time of year. Her honest sharing touches the heart, and the two reflection questions at the end of each entry help readers search their own minds to apply what they’ve gleaned. They don’t take long to read, so start the day, read at lunch break, or use at bedtime. They could also be read aloud. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
I really like devotionals and thought this one was especially well written. The very first chapter just hit home for me. I think everyone of us has wanted to be part of some group. We try to fit in, follow them around and hope we will be accepted. The author’s point is we already belong to God’s family. In this family we are loved unconditionally. I love how she pairs up chapters with songs. It is a great illustration of the topic and music is a great way to express feelings.
I enjoyed reading her own personal stories and how encouraging the book is. It would make a great gift for someone or to be used as a study for a group. I think I will use this devotional on my own. I can sense this book will open my eyes to struggles I am having while giving me peace as I read how much God loves each of us. One of the topics that really spoke to me was about the author going to an interview at a day care. Her analysis of how babies cry all the time is what we do to Christ. He never tires of us crying out to Him. He wants us to come to Him with our needs and the best thing is He is always there.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God is a wonderful fifty two week devotional. I found it to be a good way of feeding one’s heart and mind. Each devotional includes a personal story from the author, lessons learned, scripture, reflection, and a song that fits the devotion. I enjoyed the author’s own story and how she was able to fit it into the devotion and how each story ties to the beauty and power of faith and inspiration. I thought it is fabulous devotion to use all year round.
Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God is getting five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for those who are in need of weekly inspiration through the whole year.
I received Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God from the publisher. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
For me- like so many, music plays such an important part in how I connect with God. I love finding songs that so describe the feelings that I cannot put into words. Oh yes, there is certainly some power in music, that is for certain. Sound like you? If so, this is certainly one devotional that you will want to check out.
Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God is a 52-week devotional. Each weekly devotional focuses on one song and shares scripture as well as personal stories from the author. They are very quick and easy to read, just the right length that allows us to be able to get something out of them, but still being ideal for those who might not have a lot of extra time for reading. You might recognize some of the songs, but if you don’t, the information on where to listen online is available in the book as well. I personally appreciated this, not only does it allow me to check out some new songs, but I think that can really add to the whole overall devotional experience.
Now, I must admit, as a 52-week devotional, I have not read all of the devotions at the time of this review. That being said, I have read enough to get a good feel for the layout and writing style and I am very impressed with what I have seen so far. If you enjoy music and worship and are looking for a devotional that will incorporate that into your time with God, this is certainly one to check out.
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
“We all want to belong.” The quintessential human longing.
Ms. Goring pours her heart into this devotional, sharing the most tender and poignant depths of her spiritual journey, and inviting the reader to the same journey. She speaks to the reader as if over a cuppa coffee, and invites discussion with Reflection Questions at the end of each chapter. Questions that nudge the reader to truly consider the author’s words and to look in his or her own experience.
The pages are filled with personal revelations, meaningful quotes, and songs that touch the soul.
I think my favorite (if I had to choose) would be Week 9, Silver Platter Faith. Ms. Goring shares of her longing for unshakable faith, something this reader longed for also. “… I asked God for unshakable faith… He wasn’t going to hand it to me on a silver platter.” Boy-O-boy-O-boy is that ever the truth!!! (ask me how I know!) She then goes on to share Romans 5:3, “… suffering produces perseverance.” * Perseverance is akin to unshakable faith.
It’s not easy sharing such personal stories, and I appreciate Ms. Goring for being willing to be so transparent. I appreciate her heart to share what she has learned, and to draw others to the love of our heavenly Father.
She ends with Jesus’ invitation to drink the living water, water that becomes a spring welling up to eternal life. (John 4:13-14) Jesus’ invitation to walk with Him, to live in Him. To love and be love by Him.

This is a one year (52 week) devotional. Alexis has it written in short chapters (one chapter per week) that take five to fifteen minutes to read. This would be a great gift for yourself or a friend who wants a personal Bible study. Maybe someone who doesn’t have a lot time in their day but still want to get into God’s Word and meditate on a passage of Scripture.
Alexis includes one song with each week. She even gives links at the back of the book for all fifty two songs and their authors. Fill your heart with God’s Word and your mind with a song for each week.
These devotional chapters are each filled with Bible verses, song descriptions, encouraging words from a sister in Christ, and two questions to answer.
Something to bear in mind as you read this new devotional is that Alexis A. Goring is a Seventh-day Adventist. Therefore, you may want to skip over a couple parts where she quotes hymn writers and pastors who are Seventh-day Adventists.
I’ve really enjoyed and appreciated this book for what it was intended for!
It’s a 52 Devotional Book that is full of remainders of Gods unconditional love for us.
I love devotionals. They help make my day easier bc I take the time to be with God. I talk to Him all the time but He doesn’t always answer but I know he’s always there. I feel His presence and to me it’s a necessary part of my life.
I love being a part of God’s family. Let me tell you, it feels awesome to be accepted into God’s family.
The author has done an admirable job with this book.
I love this verse:
“Let us then approach God’s throne of Grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.- Hebrews 4:16
I’ve always been scared of wearing out my welcome in places and around people. Even now in the hotel we’re staying in. I’m so glad to know that we won’t with God. It makes me very happy indeed.
This beautiful book is the perfect gift give a loved one, friends or members of your family. A wonderful way to spread the message of God’s love that’s for sure.
What I really liked about this book: it was that I loved the author has added her personal life’s experiences with depth and feeling that I feel comes straight from her heart..I can connect with this author through her stories because I myself have experienced some of them. But I think we all have.
I highly recommend this book because it has such powerful stories and you’ll feel God’s grace throughout this book.
I highly recommend this book. It’s so beautiful!
I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
There is nothing like a good devotional! One that is the perfect length, quickly engaging, thought-provoking, and applicable and that’s exactly what you find in Stories and Songs of Faith. From the first weekly devotional I felt connected. The length of each weeks devotional is perfect! It is a simple, yet rich study that could be done alone, as a family, or even in a small group or Sunday school class.
The layout is very user friendly with everything perfectly laid out. Each weeks topic is engaging and well written, but what really made this devotional stand out for me is the song that the author used each week that correlates with the message, and really helps drive that weeks point home. It is a unique touch that really spoke to me since music is such a big part of my life. Some of the songs I know well, but there were others that I have never heard before, which was a treat.
This devotional only takes a few minutes each week and is now one of my go-to devotionals. I cannot rave about Stories and Songs of Faith enough!
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I read through Kindle Unlimited. All views and opinions are completely honest, and my own.
I have been using the devotional Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God by Alexis Goring for the past several weeks. This 52-week devotional offers a compromising blend of scripture, song, and inspirational insight into our daily walk with the Lord.
Alexis draws on her own personal everyday experiences to share the lessons God has shown her on her faith journey. Her passion for the Lord and her desire to share the gospel message with the world shines through on every page. The devotionals are written in such a manner that the reader feels the author is speaking directly to his or her heart.
Within each devotional reading, Alexis references a song (which can be easily accessed online) that relates to the particular subject addressed.
Her messages provide a delightful way to begin the day or the week, shedding light in the dark corners of life with the promise of hope in God’s undying love for us.
The 52-week format allows the reader to access the devotions at a time of the week when encouragement and inspiration are most needed, such as during a time of stress, doubt, or fear.
I am truly blessed to have this devotional to reference as a source for spiritual sustenance.
Stories And Songs Of Faith: My Journey With God A 52-Week Devotional by Alexis Goring is a powerful devotional that will aid your walk with God.
Alexis Goring writes in a very personable way as she shares stories and songs that will help to draw us closer to God. This book is full of common sense and godly wisdom. Each chapter has scriptures to back up Alexis Goring’s words. It also has two questions at the close of each chapter, designed to help us look internally as we assess our walk with God.
God is with us 24/7. We do not have a distant God but “we have a God who hears.” We are called to “be the message of hope.” We have a hurting world that needs to know Jesus. We need to show Jesus to our friends, family and neighbours.
Alexis Goring tells us we are “a masterpiece in the making.” We are made in His image. As such He knows all our names. Do you know His name? We are all responsible for our individual walk with God. We cannot rely on our parent’s faith, we must know Jesus personally.
Life is more than we can see. We are in a spiritual battle. The enemy longs to keep us from knowing God. He is very cunning. “It’s not the devil’s plan to convert us but to simply divert us” (Pastor Peter Bath). We must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus at all times.
God has won. We see this in Revelation. He has defeated everything we will ever face. He has even defeated the last enemy – death. “In the end, God wins.”
I just could not get enough of this powerful devotion. Alexis Goring has produced 52 gems of wisdom – bitesize nuggets of truth for every week of the year.
This book is just too good to keep to myself. I shall be buying copies for my friends. It is a perfect book to either work through alone or in connect groups. It is packed full of godly advice and wisdom. This is a real gem of a book. Grab your copy today.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
This set of 52 short devotionals could be done to start the week for a year, or daily for 52 weeks. They are thought provoking and reflection questions allow you to let the principles marinate and process. What makes this unique is a song recommendation for each devotional, which adds another dimension to the ideas discussed as well as introduces you to new music (or enjoy a familiar favorite). The multimedia approach of music and the written word provides some quality time with the Lord.
There’s power in story and your story is no different. Join Alexis on this devotional journey. Her stories of faith and the songs she worships with are sure to help you raise a hope-filled Hallelujah to God. And reflect on your own journey with the Lord.
I love so many things about this devotional that I don’t know where to start! It inspired me to trust God and lean on him for daily help. It brought peace in the midst of these difficult times. It reminded me that God is in charge (and I’m not).
This devotional hits home because it’s grounded in deep faith and real life experience. The stories the author tells are both personal and profound. Her words are like tempered steel—strong, tested, and enduring. I could go on!
Read it and be uplifted. Highly recommended!
