Nominee for the Pulitzer and winner of the Spur Award, ‘Stone Song’ is the classic, and extraordinarily told, story of the Lakota Sioux mystic warrior, Crazy Horse. Of all the iconic figures of Native American history, Crazy Horse remains the most enigmatic. To this day he strides across American history as a man who lived—and died—on his own terms. “’Stone Song’ is a deeply spiritual story about … spiritual story about the soul journey of a great and mysterious American hero.” ~ The Dallas Morning News.
Ridiculed as a boy for his white-man looks, he called for a vision, and received a great one . . . a vision that would shape his life. He was to fight for his people. In order to be successful, he must not accept traditional Lakota finery, rewards, and would sacrifice the dream of a wife and children. By following his vision, and his destiny of that as a mystic warrior, he was able to lead his people to their greatest victory—the defeat of General Custer at the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
Called to his monumental task, and tortured by his deeply passionate love of a woman, Crazy Horse found peace only in battle. Drawing inspiration from the eternal wisdom of his people, he discovered the means to defeat the U.S. Army at its own deadly game.

A moving and spiritual look at the life of a Lakota legend.
learned things about Crazy Horse I never knew. Very interesting, easy reading.
This is very good book for the right reader. I have always enjoyed stories about Native Americans. However this book has vivid descriptions of torture which made me stop reading and wish for something else on my list of books.
A nice weave of the subject’s life as influenced by his spiritual beliefs. Provides insight into the jealousies and conflicts which helped to bring down His Crazy Horse.
This book , even though historical fiction, had so many authentic details.
Another dud. Didn’t even make it through 2 chapters before I gave up. Too boring.
Loved this story! Kept my interest! 5 stars
What an amazing figure in our history.
Learned a lot about Crazy Horse
If you are a fan of historical fiction, especially biographical, this is for you. In the same vein as Panther in the Sky.
Great read with many historical facts and very educational. Puts you in the life of a Lakota Indian through day to day living as well as the excitement of battle and traditional rituals.
This was a tough read. Crazy Horse’s life was just plain tragic. It was very sobering.
I rarely give up on a book, especially one that is a bestseller. But I could not get through this. To me, it just drug on and on with not much happening. The writing is not bad, but the plot was just too slow. I lost patience waiting for something to happen.
Slow to develop, not much new history I did not know.
I thought this book was fantastic. It was a great and realistic look into a sad time period within American History, but I think it is important for us to learn and understand so that we can do better. The characters were wonderful and the writing was great.
Too much on indian mysticism and very little plot. Only read 2 chapters and could not stand anymore.
I found this book very hard to read, in fact I gave up.
Rather slow in the development of the story.
Not my type of reading.
A story about Crazy Horse, and I found it well written and fascinating
