Eighteen minutes . . . It’s a hell of a long time when you’re dead.In the days following her inexplicable resurrection eighteen minutes after being pronounced dead, demon patrol officer Ella Grey still has plenty of fight in her, and she’s determined to get back to life as usual. Yet she just can’t shake the feeling that something sinister followed her back to the living. When a boy goes missing … living.
When a boy goes missing under supernatural circumstances, the dark shadow clinging to Ella shows itself, and she realizes she was right. Something did follow her back—it’s the soul of a reaper, now bound to her. It’s showing her visions of her brother, who she’d feared dead. But the reaper isn’t just along for the ride. It’s devouring Ella’s soul and at any moment could take possession of her mind and body, and then poof—no more Ella Grey.
Torn between the instinct to survive and the realization that only death’s eyes can lead her to her brother, Ella throws herself into a race against time to solve the missing boy’s case and somehow outmaneuver the reaper.
Can Ella find a way to use her deadly companion to save her brother? Or will the reaper claim her soul first?

Loved it very good book to read .
Doesn’t this cover catch your eye? It surely caught mine. After reading police thrillers and horror novel lately, I switched genres and gave this supernatural fantastic tale a read. Jayne Faith has created a unique series based in 2030 America, after a multi-dimensional rip releases demons, gargoyles and magic into the world.
.
Ella Grey is an officer with the Demon Patrol, a police force whose duty it is to catch small demons loose in the world. She is also a witch, albeit one with very little ability. When she meets Roxanne, a young girl whose brother is trapped inside a gargoyle with a demon, Ella becomes involved with a lot more than just the bat-sized demons she’s used to dealing with.
.
This seems like a fantastical premise, but Faith has created a wonderful story inhabited by any number of endearing characters. Ella, her best friend Deb, her partner Damien, et cetera: these are all people you can come to enjoy reading about and relating to. Faith’s writing is very crisp and her storyline is smoothly crafted. The story flows smoothly, and the character history is nicely fleshed-out. This is a wonderful beginning to what I’m sure will be a very fun little series to continue.

My Rating: 4.25/5 stars
I received an ARC from the author and have chosen to review it. I really enjoyed reading this book. I found it really interesting to see how Ella Grey went about her life after she had been declared dead for about 20 minutes and what she went through to find out what was going on with her and to deal with things from her past. It was really interesting to see and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.
A good read!
First book I tried on Audible, transformed to being read easily and found it entertaining.
I loved this book, but like all books it had to end. I need the next one.
This book was a nice blend of cop/procedural and supernatural.
First I’ve read by this author & I very much enjoyed. Complete adventure but with an ongoing theme/character. Would have purchased the 2 sequels if I could have afforded.
A nice opening book setting up a character while still progressing along a plot line. Strong female heroine, good supporting cast in an original premise.
I really enjoyed this book. The story was interesting, a real page turmer.
I liked this book and I think you will too.

Surprising and original. Great read.
I do enjoy reading a book that I think couldn’t possibly ever be true.
I was not sure when I started this book if I would finish it but I was pleasantly surprised and will be looking to read the next one in the series.
Very hard for an author to get you into the world of the supernatural, but this one does an outstanding job. Great reading!
Not memorable.
