Stone Cold – a review by Rosemary Kenny
Cocooned in their idyllic hideaway in Mexico, Nico decides to run for President, turning his back on his criminal past.
But events take a serious turn for the worse, when Nico’s men and his daughter’s nanny are murdered and Rosalie is kidnapped, leaving Nico and Gia frantic with worry and frustrated by the police’s corruption and inaction.
Who is behind the heinous crimes?
What is the connection between Nico and the killer?
How does Gia come to the rescue?
In order to find out, you need to get a copy of Kristi Belcamino’s incredible Stone Cold, Book 8 in her magnificent Gia Santella Crime Thriller series.
Don’t delay – they’re selling like hot cakes!
Stone Cold
Gia’s life has settled a bit since 8-year old Rosalie has come into her life, but as we know that is going change dramatically. Dante has come to visit and as they are enjoying the evening an alarm sounds sending Gia and Dante to the front door. There they see a woman who says she has come to take Rosalie back to Mexico to be with her real father. Gia soon learns that Rosalie’s real father is non other than El Jefe Grande, Nico Ortiz Morales, who is the head of one of the worlds most powerful drug cartels in the world and who was led to believe his daughter was dead. Gia is determined to keep Rosalie and Nico is determined to take Rosalie to Mexico. So Gia devises a plan to go to Mexico, hopefully incognito, to face Nico. When they do meet, sparks fly and the cat and mouse game begins.
You’d have to be stone cold not to enjoy this
Gia, the vigilante with heart, finds herself in the midst of yet another dilemma. As the story progresses a specter rises, things are not what they seem, and getting to the bottom of the mystery will change the course of many lives. Kristi Belcamino’s Stone Cold brings some answers and new blood into the Gia Santella series. I truly appreciate the thought and time put into each of her books and can’t wait for the next installment. You’d have to be stone cold not to enjoy this series and author.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
I have read every one of the books in this series and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. But this book is hands down, the best one yet! I do not know how Belcamino does it, but this series keeps getting better and better. The characters are all advancing, as are the relationships. Gia has become a great Mom, and is coming into her own and dealing well with her loss. Her relationships keep getting deeper with family and friends, (that are her family). This book is full of the suspense and action we have come to expect. But this one ends with a special twist!
I received this book as an ARC, but this review is my own.
Stone Cold is the BEST Gia book, by far. Absolutely nothing like I imagined it was going to be. The storyline took a completely different turn than I thought it would and it was just utterly fantastic!!! I love Kristi’s writing style. She has a way of writing that draws you in and makes you feel like you are part of the story…the depth of the characters, the gripping storyline, the array of emotions experienced, and the twists, conflicts, and challenges, it all grabs you. We get to see a lot of reflection and inner musings on Gia’s part, as well as the growth of her character. She is a compelling character with a broken soul, a huge heart, a strong love for friends and family, and a fierce protector with a strong resolve.
In Stone Cold, two years have passed and Gia and Rosalie, along with her best friend Dante, have settled into a routine and are moving forward, as she embraces her new maternal role in Rosalie’s life. When news she was dreading is revealed and danger makes its way to her front door, she along with the help of Dante and her aunt Eva go into fight and survival mode to protect Rosalie at all costs. It is a wild ride full of constant danger, many challenges, and hard decisions and things become even more complicated when unexpected feelings get involved.
Many facets of Gia are explored in this story and she runs through a rollercoaster of emotions as she makes some really hard decisions and choices concerning Rosalie and their future. This one really got me; it was a really moving story. I was completely enamored by Nico and his relationship with Gia. You really want him to be the terrible bad guy and hate him, but as the story moves along and you come to learn more about him, it is impossible to do so. There is plenty of action, suspense, surprises, and shocking twists to keep you enthralled in this great read.
*I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
It is amazing to see how Gia is transforming into the woman she was meant to be. Stone cold (no pun intended) killer, yes, jilted lover, yes, best friend to some, worst enemy to others, yes, caring, loving and adoring mom, yes! Wrap all of these characteristics into one bundle and Gia is what results. Follow Gia to Mexico to confront the leader of the world’s most powerful drug cartel in this riveting story that embraces a mother’s true love for a child. I’ve never read a Gia novel I didn’t like, but this one takes it to new levels. I can honestly say, without hesitation, that I read this book in ONE sitting, only to pause briefly for ‘required’ breaks. I just couldn’t put it down! All of the characters are well developed and their relationships are easily understood. Don’t be alarmed if you haven’t read any of the Gia books before this, you will be able to engage in this one easily, then want to go back for more (a little background perhaps?) So in a nutshell, does well as a standalone, but recommend ALL the other Gia (and Eva) books for a wonderful, thrill ride, reading experience! I received an advance copy of this book and this is my own, honest, unsolicited review.
A great storyline. It flows smoothly and keeps the reader’s attention. Some twists and turns to add action to the story. Gia and Nick connect at the basic level. A little girl is the most important person for each of them. I loved this book.
OMG! I HAD to finish this book in one sitting. It grips you with action and a quandary at the beginning and doesn’t let up. Gia’s “adopted” daughter, Rosalie’s, biological Dad, Nico, discovers upon his wife’s death that the daughter he thought was dead is alive. This triggers a search for her and to bring her “home” to live with him. Ultimately, this causes Gia and Nico to meet and bump heads…as he is the CEO-drug lord of a massive cartel and a stone cold killer known as El Jefe Grande. This is an absolute must read especially if you are a fan of Gia Santella!
Red Robin
Nico Morales also known as El Jefe Grande is the most powerful drug cartel leader in Mexico. He finds his wife dead with a note that says his daughter is still alive. He tracks her down to where Gia lives with Rosalie, his daughter. Nico sends people to get his daughter, but Gia takes her to Dante’s house thinking she is safe. Gia decides to find Nico and kill him. This is another page turner in the series. I sat down and could not stop reading until I finished the novel.
