As an infant, Running Brook is kidnapped by the Comanche; as a teenager, she is rescued by gentle Quakers and introduced to Christian beliefs; as a young adult, she searches for love and her true heritage. Discreetly disguised as a boy, “Brook” travels to Texas with a tantalizing young army captain and his Indian guide. There she finds her father who welcomes her with open arms. But Brook’s … stepmother and Ram, her handsome stepbrother, resent her. When she accidently discovers Ram’s underhanded schemes, she knows that her life is in danger. Isolated on the ranch, is there anywhere she can go for help? Would she dare to turn to Captain Jeremy Grant for help? She had finally found her real family, but had she lost her heritage? This story weaves together adventure, faith, and love in a captivating story.

Stolen Heritage was another good read by Barbara Goss. Brooke was taken captive as an infant and was reared by Indians. She hopes to be reunited with her family, find her identity and her true love. This was another great Barbara Goss read and I can’t wait to read more by the author.
Christian Historical Romance
An incredible story of a young woman who was stolen from her home as a baby, raised by Indians, and searching for her birth parents. But can she fit in with either worlds? Discover, as she does, that her true family is being one of God’s beloved children. God answers her prayers before she even prays them!
The narrator was perfect for this story
Stolen Heritage is the first novel I’ve read by this author, and it won’t be the last! The author provides excellent character development, a fast-paced plot, suspense, Christian faith, and romance in a shorter novel as thoroughly as if it were twice the length. I had mixed feelings about reaching the end only as I didn’t want to leave the folks behind.
Running Brook was only eight months old when she was taken by Comanches after they killed her mother. For sixteen years she lived with them and suffered abuse at the hands of the couple she was given to. Two years ago, when the Comanches went to the reservation, they gave Running Brook to Lawrie Tatum, the Indian agent, and his wife. They are Quaker, and brought her to Jesus, taught her to read, speak English, and learn social graces. They also tried to find the family she was taken from, finally narrowing it down to two possible families.
Jeremy Grant is an Army captain and was to take her to Ft. Worth, Texas, and determine which family she was taken from. He wasn’t happy about the journey, nor was he happy about one of the families he had to check out. Over the days on the trail, Dusty, his scout, “Brook”, and Jeremy became friends. Brook stayed with Jeremy’s mother until meeting her family.
Her father Angus is thrilled to see her alive, inviting her to live with him. Brook’s real name is Laurel Ann, she also has a loving, mute, grandmother, and the kitten they found on the way to Ft. Worth. Her stepmother Ada and her son Ramsey aren’t happy about it, as her son will no longer be heir to the ranch. By accident, Laurel overhears about Ram’s illegal activities and he finds out. One of her new friends is found murdered on the ranch. Laurel lost her family heritage once when she was stolen by Comanches. She finally has a name and a home, but Ramsey is determined that he won’t give up the ranch, even if it costs Laurel her heritage – again – or her life.
Laurel makes a huge difference in her father’s life, as well as in the lives of those around her. She is a delightful young woman who has had a challenging life. Except for the nightmares she still has, she is remarkably well adjusted and engaging. She, Jeremy, and Dusty are Christians whose faith is well demonstrated. I love the perfect teaching that Jeremy shared with her and his mother! Characters are defined well through actions, conversations, and for Lauren, her thoughts.
The setting sounds beautiful, and the author shows very well the perspective of Brook/ Lauren as she is on the trail to Ft. Worth, then sees city life for the first time and learns about her family. There is mystery and suspense, from murder to theft and vandalism. There is the possibility of romance as Lauren is given positive attention from more than one man for the first time ever. This Christian historical fiction novel has everything that makes it fascinating reading, and I highly recommend it!
From a thankful heart: I won a copy of this ebook from the author; a review was not required.
Brook is a strong woman who is to be reunited with her family many years after being kid napped by the Comanche. As she is trying to fit in to her new way of life she experiences more heartache and intrigue, but also the possibility of love.
Barbara Goss is a wonderful storyteller and this book does not disappoint. I highly recommend it!
I thoroughly enjoyed Leon Nixon’s performance. Well done!
