It’s Always Darkest Before the Light
by robbob19
STOLEN BY TRUTHS… truths…. exactly what truths are we talking about? And when these truths come out, will anyone be left to survive? Will the revelation of these truths bring about healing … or will they separate, tear apart and bring about more ruin, more pain? Will these truths need to be dealt with in order for real healing to begin? Or are those truths so dark, so twisted that they need to stay hidden?
Ahhh, Kai … she knows what sacrifice is and is willing to let herself be used for the endgame. She’s smart, so very smart…. yet at times she’s so very dumb. What a contradiction she is. But one that knows how to WIN… especially when it comes to protecting those she loves.
She knows pain. She knows betrayal. She knows torture. She knows heartbreak. And she took them head on and defeated them all. Now her target is Milo. Poor, poor Milo. He won’t know what hit him when Kai is done. You see, Kai is on a mission and she won’t be derailed. Her subterfuge will be from within the very castle Milo has built. His stalwart walls surrounding his domain are not tall enough, not thick enough, not strong enough to stop Kai from knocking them down….. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the kings horses and all the kings men, couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty black together again.
Kai set out to save Enzo. Her target is Milo. But will the truth Milo reveals change everything? Can Enzo get Kai off that wall before Humpty Dumpty falls, taking her with him? Can Enzo save Kai? Can he save their future … even a future he knows nothing about?
And what about Felix? Is he the good guy or the bad guy? Time will tell. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book, ‘Possessed by Lies’. Answers are needed.
She never ever thought she would find him as her home as she fought to get free. She was then stolen from him and now all she wants is to be back with him. Will he come to find her? Will she ever see him again? See how she gets on

Angsty Twists And Turns Continue In Book Four Of Enzo and Kai’s Story! Their Circumstances Grow Dire As Milo’s Threats Lead To Their Separation.
This is book four of six in the Truth or Lies series. Each book reads like a roller coaster, with unexpected gut-clenching twists and turns. Enzo and Kai both grew up in a brutal world, but one was raised in luxury and the other in extreme poverty. They have an undeniable connection, but every time they cross paths or begin to drop their defenses, something seems to pull them apart. There are many questions and many lies, but answers do come with patience. The books are best read back to back since the plot is very complex. This review attempts to summarize earlier books as a refresher for readers that didn’t just finish the prior book in the series.
From book one:
Enzo Black, seventeen, drinks to numb the memories that haunt him. He grew up in comfort and has more money than he will ever need, but his life has not been easy. As the son of Mr. Black, he knows he has an image to maintain. There is no room for feelings for someone like him. He has blood on his hands. His father has trained him in the family business for years, expecting that Enzo might one day take over. His second hands happen to be his two best friends, Langston and Zeke. They all grew up together, so having his trusted friends at his side in a dark world dominated by hardened criminals provides a welcome level of comfort. Langston is more brain, while Zeke is more brawn. But both are loyal. They are family.
Katherine Miller, sixteen, hasn’t’ been to school in weeks, choosing to work and steal instead. Food on the table and rent for the trailer she shares with her father rank higher on her list of priorities. First on the list, however, is paying off her father’s debt. She loves her father despite the lack of warmth in their relationship. She remains loyal, even though they’ve had growing pains. Kai’s mother died from cancer when she was small, leaving Kai’s father with medical expenses in the millions. The debt collectors have to be paid, and some are shady. Kai knows one day she will have to pay with her body, but she works to delay that inevitability as long as possible by stealing.
When Enzo and Kai meet by chance, they both feel electrified. Enzo’s feelings come to life despite himself, and Kai has never been so attracted to a boy before. But when they meet again, it is not by chance. Enzo has a job to do, and Kai is his job. Kai has questions, but he doesn’t seem to have answers. He promises to let her leave town, but in a cruel twist of fate Kai is taken and sold to a cruel man named Jarod. Years later Kai is back and she wants answers. Enzo has answers now, but doesn’t want Kai to know them. They play a game of Truth or Lies but Kai loses. Instead of getting her answers, Enzo now owns her. He keeps her and sees to her health, but his trickery isn’t over. The two play a series of games as a means to get answers that neither willingly wants to share.
Just when Kai begins to recover her strength and the pair begins to bond, her whole world is turned upside down. She learns what Enzo meant when he said becoming the next Mr. Black is earned, and he confesses he didn’t actually earn it because he let her live six year ago. The next Mr. Black will earn his or her place according to the rules set forth by the last two to compete for the title: their fathers. The Rinaldi and Miller families have competed for the title for generations. As only children, Enzo and Kai must compete, since it is now known that she is not dead. There will be five competitions, each with a clear winner. Three out of five wins the title. Outside of the rules, there are no rules. It is a dangerous game, meant to flush out the weakest and leave the strongest to run the empire until the next generation of Rinaldis and Millers comes along.
In book two:
Enzo, twenty-four, and Kai, twenty-three, must run Mr. Black’s empire together until a winner is determined. Enzo has run it as Mr. Black for three years already, and though Kai has great street smarts and is quite capable of standing up for herself, she lacks experience as a leader. When things get personal, the two clash professionally. Kai uses her equal footing with Enzo to hurt him, but it comes with a price. When the first round of the game begins, they had reached a tentative peace, but winning comes at a price as well, as Kai learns.
Heartbroken by Kai’s betrayal, as evidenced by the rumors that damage his reputation in the underworld, and not denied by Kai herself later, Enzo loses his careful composure and does the unthinkable. He arranges to sell her to Milo Wallace. Another round of Truths, though, has him and Kai both spiraling out of control and the entire team scrambling. Kai had only been in hiding to heal from the beating she got from Miles when she secured his ring, and Enzo admits it had been her father, not him, that sold her years ago. The book ends in a shattering cliffhanger with yet another wicked turn at the end.
In book three:
An alliance is formed with Rowan Evan who rescues Kai from Milo Wallace, but a war is simmering. Enzo, Kai, Langston and Zeke board the Savage and head out to sea to keep their whereabouts unknown and to buy time. Liesel Dunn, Enzo’s friend from his teen years, is forced to join them due to her role in the first game – as Enzo’s date. Liesel makes no secret of her feelings for Enzo, and he doesn’t do quite enough put her in her place. He still considers Liesel his “everything.” Her history with Enzo presents both a challenge and an opportunity for Kai. Some relationships blossom in such close quarters, but people also begin to grow antsy.
The truths unveiled before departure leave Kai and Enzo damaged. Kai deals with the fact that both her father and Enzo sold her as well as the many lies she grew up with. Enzo struggles with his guilt and his determination to make things right with Kai. He grows emotionally during this time, but still needs work. He wavers between needing Kai forever and sending her away from Black for her own good at the first opportunity. A second game takes place aboard ship, but Zeke and Liesel get pulled into it. Kai’s relationship with Zeke is strengthened as a result, but Enzo damages his with Liesel, whom he no longer considers his everything. Enzo wins, tying the game. The war must take place before they can all return home. Blood spills in this heartbreaking battle. Zeke is shot protecting Kai, then his body washes overboard in a storm. Milo may or may not have drowned at sea. But Milo can be replaced, and he had already organized Black’s enemies for a battle that Black isn’t ready to wage. Enzo and Kai both make foolish and out of character choices in their attempts to make a deal with Milo, which conveniently lead to another cliffhanger as readers wait to see who Milo chooses to take captive.
In book four:
Enzo willingly surrenders to Milo, ready to win the title and hand the empire, and his life, over to Milo in exchange for a promise to leave Kai alone. Kai and Langston are devastated when their attempts to locate him fail. Liesel shows up and scolds them into action. She agrees with Kai that Enzo should have stayed behind to run the empire and works with Kai to ensure his return. At Surrender, Kai discovers that Enzo has been quietly doing good in the world in addition to running the underworld, cementing her belief that he must return. The third game brings them together again at Surrender, several weeks later. The competition is brutal. Kai takes advantage of Enzo’s injuries and convinces Milo to take her instead. Once Enzo is well enough to realize she is gone, he sets to work on a plan to rescue Kai. Meanwhile, Milo’s devastating story is shared with her. The story takes a sad twist and ends with great uncertainty about the future.
A few issues merit mention. First, that Kai and Langston just gave up following Enzo’s disappearance felt out of character. Second, the idea that either Enzo or Kai must surrender to Milo never felt authentic, so Kai switching places with Enzo rather than the two simply choosing to remain together in Miami or anywhere else also feels inauthentic. Third, despite the trauma, Kai’s reaction and decision at he end of the book feel out of character. She had learned about the good Enzo does and already understood that he needed compassion and healing for killing his mother as directed by his father. Nothing seems to have changed that. He was raised by a monster but didn’t turn out like his father.
Enzo and Kai’s relationship is tested in this book. They are separated by circumstances, yet Enzo continues to grow emotionally. Kai, however, feels weaker without him at her side. Liesel’s influence grows stronger, and though it was needed, it should still be scrutinized. Kai also allows Milo to influence her thinking, giving her misplaced doubt. Both Enzo and Kai are determined to do what is best for the other, even if it means an end for them.
Enzo and Kai’s story continues the angsty twists and turns in book four of the series. Their circumstances grow dire as Milo’s threats lead to their separation. The story is nicely written. It is plot-driven, with heartbreaking curveballs that sock you in the gut. The characters are well-developed. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Enzo and Kai. I rate this book four stars.

I really really don’t want to be that person. I really enjoy Ella Miles writing. I started off loving this series. It was so good and had my attention right off the start. I couldn’t put it down! But then for me it started to drag on. Things started to get repetitive. And I started to lose interest which takes a lot for me. I think there’s only been a couple books I DNF since I started reading. I finished this book but I’m not going to finish this series. Or I might just take a break and come back later to see what happened to Enzo and Kai.
There was two reasons I waited to start this book. One was because the amount of emotions I feel reading this book take a lot out of me. The second was because I wanted to read the last 3 books back to back. Though as just finishing this book my emotions are all out of wack. It is so heartbreaking to read this series. As neither Enzo or Kai can catch a break. I will finish this series and hope for a good ending. It is a great writer who can elicit such strong emotions in a reader.

As the games continue for the Black empire, but who will surrender first…Milo, Kai or Enzo? Enzo wants to protect those he loves the most, his father said it was a weakness that no leader should possess, but can he hide his feelings for Kai in the face of so much danger? Kai wants to protect Enzo, Enzo wants to protect Kai and they are both willing to die for each other? But who is looking out for the Black empire? Who’s monster will win?
Both Kai and Enzo are ready for the games to be over, and they are broken, beaten up and on the brink. But will they both survive? Truth or lie…who will Milo damage the most? What will Milo finally reveal? Can Kai and Enzo both survive Milo and his tricks, lies and truths?
This story continues to have so much of Enzo and Kai revealed and so much more we have yet to learn. So much is revealed and yet so much is still a mystery. There are some triggers, so be warned. This has so much darkness, steamy love, lust, romance, mystery, tragedy, suspense and so much more. Hang on tight, the ride is almost over. I can’t wait for the next book. What happens to Langston and Liesel? This ends in a cliffhanger you will want to read the next book!!! I received an ARC of this book from the author.
This series has been good. I personally don’t generally enjoy cliffhangers but the writing and the story is good enough to keep me going.
I wish I had waited to read all at once but would recommend this series and this book with the cliffhanger warning.

Kai and Enzo’s story just moved to a new level. Each one trying to save the other. That’s what I call true love. Milo is still a very despicable character who you will enjoy despising. Another book, another cliffhanger. Bring on the next volume…this series is totally excellent.

This is Book 4 of the 6 book series by Ella Miles. It is brilliant and so original! Enzo and Kai both try to appeal to Milo to pick them to save the other. Their love seems stronger than ever but it will be tested. Time and time again. Many truths will be revealed.
What a fabulous and stunning read that is gripping and emotional. Love the chemistry and intense feeling and roller coasters of twist and turns makes this a book you won’t forget.
I love this series, even are going a bit longer that I expected.
The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat.
The love between Kai and Enzo makes you want to cheer for them and weep for them.
I can’t wait for the last 2 books. I need to see if they get their happily ever after.

Fantastic continuation……………..but I want the next books!!!
Okay so Stolen by Truths, book 4 in the Truth or Lies series is Flipp’n Fantastic!!!! I am so in love with this series that I can barely wait for the next book to come out.
Ella Miles has once again woven a mesmerizing story with so many twists and turns I am all upside down and back around. There are so many “truth or lies” in this story that it is hard to know who is actually doing what and for what reason. Kai, Enzo and Milo are all caught up in an intricate, evil and deadly dangerous game of cat and mouse with each other. Kai and Enzo are trying to keep each other safe against Milo. But can they actually protect each other or will they still just be pawns in Milo’s games? As with the previous books in this series Stolen by Truths ends on another cliffhanger that has you swiping your Kindle trying to find the rest of the story.
I received a free ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
This series keeps taking me right to the edge and leaves me hanging and I love every minute of it! This story makes me feel all the emotions, the pain, love, anger and all the passion! Cannot wait to read the next book!
Oh Lawd! Two books left in this series and I can’t wait! Enzo and Kai both want to protect each other from the cruel and violent Milo. A truth about Milo will soon be revealed, but it isn’t what Enzo has believed. Enzo and Kai have their next challenge and it is one that could easily kill them both. Kai has fallen in love with Enzo, and he has come to the realization that he loves her too, but there hasn’t been a good time to tell her.
Another quick read for me because I just couldn’t put this one down. Filled with plenty of twists and turns and danger, secrets and suspense. The journey that Enzo and Kai take, and who they can trust and believe. A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. Cannot wait to read the next book to reveal more of this life.
This is the fourth book in the Truth of Lies series, and the continuation of Enzo, and Kai’s twisted love story. I finished reading this book, and I felt such despair, Enzo, and Kai have been through so much in their lives, and life just doesn’t seem to be giving them any breaks. They love each other so much, neither one wants the other to sacrifice themselves for the other, but they do ,regularly leaving one or the other in a dangerous situations. I felt so many emotions reading this book, anger, sadness, worry, heartbreak, hopelessness, and surprise, especially at the end. The book had me on the edge of my seat, the entire time, an I will be climbing the walls until I get to read the next book in the series. This book, and series, are definitely worth the read, and I highly recommend them. 4.5 STARS

Amazing series that continues to grab my attention by well placed reveals and great writing. The characters are multifaceted which provides intrigue. The story is heartbreaking for all of the pain that these characters go through and this latest revelation was the worst secret yet. The author created a memorable story filled with deceit, suspense, drama, horrific abusers at every turn, and a great love story. I’m glad to have been lucky enough to find this author and will continue to grab anything she writes. Highly recommend this series.
