This wasn’t totally what I was expecting but it still was a really great read! I figured they would end up on his planet but the whole story takes place on hers. I liked how Aurora was planning on helping herself. But I wanted to shake her when she could have been getting help and she didn’t say anything. But she was also really smart and a nice person so it made up for it in my opinion. Dakar was a great character all the way around. I liked him pretty much the whole way thru.
This was my first book by Alison and I’m a huge sci fi fan, so was intrigued by the blurb on this, it sounded like a good read.
Set in the future we have Dakar, a half breed martian….. golden skinned, horns, fangs…. he had a terrible upbringing as a child, badly treated due to his mixed heritage, but now he is grown and has returned to claim what is rightfully his.
Aurora Blake, step daughter of the head of a powerful corporation, again she has been treated badly, her step father is a horrible person and her only thought is to escape him, which is not proving to be easy. She steals jewels to fund her escape while attending functions.
It’s a one one these functions that these two meet, it is Dakar’s first function on his return to Earth, his playboy reputation proceeds him along with his sexual prowess, and Aurora spies him in the garden with a woman, and cannot stop watching them, they have an instant connection even though he is with someone else.
Even though it is set in the future, it reminds me more of a historical read, which I’m not a fan of, so unfortunately this read was just not right for me. It’s also very much a mystery whodunit, with the people trying to work out who stole the jewels and committed the murders. Dakar is a great character, I loved him and his dominant ways, yet his protector side came out with Aurora. But I was left a little frustrated with Aurora’s character, her decisions and her lack of communication.
If you like a historial type read mixed with aliens this well be up your street, it just wasn’t for me.
Stolen, by Alison Aimes, is a sexy, stand alone Alien romance. I loved Alison’s Condemned series so I’ve been so excited to venture into this new world. And as I expected I would be, I was completely swept away and in love with the characters and their story.
The year on Earth is 9079. Aurora Blake lives and is under the supervision of her step father, perhaps respected by the public, but was actually a vicious man, bent on gaining power and money. He is a man who enjoys making others suffer, including his step daughter. He has plans for her, plans she is beginning to clearly understand. She needs to escape. And to do so, she needs money. In order to make this happen, Aurora begins stealing jewels and pawning them.
Dakar Volkan is half martian and half human, disgraced firstborn executive to his father’s estate. Dakar was initially raised by his father and step mother, and treated with brutality and hatred. Eventually, he made his way to be with his uncles on Mars where he was taught to be a Warlord, and to live with honor. After the death of his father, Dakar is back on Earth to claim his rightful place, to make right the wrongs of his family. Only his younger half brother believes he should inherit everything. So Dakar is forced to fight for what is rightfully his. Only somehow, he has become a suspect in the recent missing jewels. At the same time, women have been being found murdered in the Outer World. It’s only a matter of time before they try to blame him for these crimes as well.
“This planet and its people might have marked the boy he’d been, but they did not have to impact the man he’d become.”
When Dakar looks up from the garden to see a young woman on the balcony, his own little voyeur, he can feel the pull, the golden threads already trying to link them. His mate. But taking a mate is not why he is on Earth. Aurora doesn’t understand the pull she feels to Dakar. She doesn’t know him, only sees a beautiful man, a man she is told is a savage beast.
“For the first time in his life someone was as vital to his existence as he was to hers.”
Dakar and Aurora try to fight the bonds bringing them together. But it’s not possible. Aurora needs to only concentrate on gaining enough money to get away from her stepfather. And Dakar has battles of his own to fight. If he knew she was the true jewel thief, the one responsible for putting the suspicion on him, he would never forgive her.
“He’d found his greatest fortune in the same place he’d once thought would only bring him pain.”
I loved everything about this book. Mostly Dakar. This man/beast had suffered so much at the hands of others. But he somehow still had a truly good heart. He wanted revenge, yes, but more than that, he wanted to right wrongs and help the disadvantaged. And, once he gives in to the mating call to Aurora, he was all in. This man! These two steamed up the pages. Dakar is all Alpha, bent on making Aurora his in every way. I want to also mention Dakar’s closest friend, Grayson. I am very intrigued by him and hope to see him possibly in a future book?
This is an amazing, suspenseful, steamy, beautiful story. I loved everything about it. The epilogue was perfect! I think it’s safe to say that if Alison Aimes writes it, I will read it.
“He was never giving her up. She was his forever.
I started this thinking it was your typical alien romance. Stolen is anything, but that. Much of the Earther world under the dome takes me back to a historical romance setting. Women are property and there’s an intricate class system. Aurora is the daughter of the highest echelon, the elithe. DaKar discovers he has a soul-tie to Aurora by accident when they are both very young. He’s half-Martian which is very undesirable, but he’s set to inherit his father’s wealth and station. He will have to fight for it. He wants to deny that his tie to Aurora can mean anything, but the truth remains to be seen. Aurora desperately needs to escape from her step-father for he has depraved plans for her and she won’t be anyone’s plaything. Stealing jewelry from the wealthy and saving her credits, she will be able to escape soon. Will DaKar and Aurora be able to save themselves? Stolen is a wild ride. Be ready for deception at every turn. 4 stars
OMG! I could not put it down.
I received this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Alison Aimes is the first author of sci fi I’ve read and I absolutely love her writing.
It pulled me in and I didn’t want to come out. There is such an amazing chemistry between Aurora and DaKar. It’s filled with deceit, action, love and so much more. I would definitely recommend this book.
What an intriguing story!
An unusual mix of Regency romance, mystery, dystopia and awesome aliens! It’s interesting to read of a time so far in the future, with a large alien presence on Earth, yet to see social behaviors that have devolved to a time in the distant past – the early 1800s. Aurora, our heroine, is resolute in trying to seek freedom from the intolerable situation in which she finds herself. She has few options, and even fewer opportunities to reach her goal. I admire her never-give-up attitude. DaKar is a great character, his intent (for the most part) is admirable. Watching him overcome his own past experiences to make that magical connection with Aurora is wonderful. There is a mystery to be solved; the path to resolution is dangerous and convoluted. I love the outcome, and am curious to see what this world holds for us next!
