A savvy businesswoman and an assassin struggle to outwit the FBI — and each other — in this #1 NYT bestselling story of sizzling romance and shocking deception from “a masterful storyteller” (USA Today). When Jordie Bennet and Shaw Kinnard lock eyes across a disreputable backwater bar, something sparks. No one feels this more strongly than Jordie, a woman who doesn’t belong in a seedy dive on the banks of a bayou. But here she is . . . and Shaw Kinnard is here to kill her.
As Shaw takes aim, Jordie is certain her time has come. Instead, Shaw has other plans. He abducts Jordie, hoping to get his hands on the $30 million her brother has stolen. Now on the run from the feds and a notorious criminal, Jordie and Shaw must rely on their wits to stay alive.
Miles away from civilization and surrounded by swampland, Jordie and Shaw play each other against their common enemies. Signature Sandra Brown – another action-packed page-turner that will draw you in page one and hold on to you to the very exciting and dramatic end.
I’ve been reading Sandra Brown for years, so I was excited for a new book to come out. I’m having a hard time with this one though. I’m almost halfway through, but I am not feeling the whole smart, good woman falling for the hired, cold-blooded killer thing. I want to see how it plays out, but so far I am not impressed.
What a roller coaster ride….each chapter took the story in an unexpected direction, which made me turn pages at a fast rate. Sting is a thriller, it’s a romance, it’s a mystery, it family drama, it has sexual tension, and the ending is like ‘WHAT’. It’s one helluva book!
This started out a little slow for me. I love Sandra Brown, so I stuck with it. At about the half way through the story turned for me and held my interest. Ended up being a really good book.
Love her books, love that she writes about Louisiana (my state) and she describes the areas so well…… Love her female characters!
“Unapproachable was Jordie Bennett. With that face, that body, she could afford to be selective. No two ways about it, she could make just about any man’s mouth water. Which kinda sucked. Since Shaw had been hired to kill her.”
If you are a fan of Sandra Brown, you already know how good she is at writing romance and thriller suspense novels. Her 2016 release: Sting is an engaging and sexy addition to her already impressive collection. Kidnapping, lots of bad guy strategies, tons of money at stake, twisty plot, family dysfunction, all in a well-done Louisiana setting. Wait… did I mention the steamy attraction going on between a certain hitman and his beautiful target? Can’t believe I almost left that out 😉
Sting was an engaging and action-packed story that was a lot of fun to read. If you’re a fan of this author or if you have thought about checking her out, make sure to consider adding this one to your list!
Another great read by Sandra Brown. Some expected twists, but the last got me!
Sandra Brown has long been a favorite romantic suspense author for me. Sting is a bit more laid back in the beginning, then BAM! it takes off on a wild, and twisty ride. The bad boy, (assassin), Shaw Kinnard abducts good girl Jordie Bennet ,(strong business woman)—and the story explodes into action. He wants what he thinks she has, she wants only to help her younger brother out of a jam. There is passion, greed, jealousy, and wonderful suspense in this read. I loved it.
The audio version is wonderful!
The Main Characters Evoke Indifference At Best – 2.5 Stars
The twists and turns kept this story interesting, but I didn’t care for the main characters individually or as a couple. Jordie’s useless resistance and questions to Shaw were annoying. I don’t know why he wanted her, not that he was a catch. He had his reasons for subterfuge, but he was generally a jerk. The only romantic element in this book was supplied by dialogue between a happily married supporting character and his wife. In the end, I didn’t care what became of Shaw and Jordie’s relationship either way.
Sandra Brown is an author I always enjoy reading, because I can never guess the ending, and it’s a thrill to get there!
In ‘Sting’, Jordie Bennet and Shaw Kinnard lock eyes across a disreputable backwater bar, and something sparks. But she has no idea. that Shaw Kinnard is there to kill her.
As Shaw takes aim, Jordie is certain her time has come. Instead, Shaw has other plans. He abducts Jordie, hoping to get his hands on the $30 million her brother has stolen. But he isn’t the only one: Jordie’s brother made a deal with the FBI, but his ruthless boss will stop at nothing to find the money first. Now on the run from the feds and a notorious criminal, Jordie and Shaw must rely on their wits to stay alive.
Couldn’t put it down.
All of Sandra Brown’s books are great. I just finished reading this one. It had several twists and turns like all of her books. She has become my favorite author. I wish she could write a new book every day.
I love this story. You wonder about the hero’s actions and character when it first starts out, but having faith in the author, I figured things would play out okay. Sandra Brown writes great bad boys, but they’re redeemable. Great chemistry between hero and heroine. And both with secrets. Lots of great plot twists. It kept me guessing until the very end.
The first half of the book was slow reading, in part because my allergies were triggering migraines and also due to not being really hooked until half way in. I found some aspects of the story unrealistic, however, overall it was a decent read and it did not leave me feeling disappointed. In addition, it had a few moments of spice in spots if you like a taste of erotic with your reads to liven things up a bit. This is a tough one to rate for me because it falls somewhere between 3 and 4…I wish there was a 1/2 star.
Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors and role model in my own writing career. I love most of her books, especially the ones she wrote after 1990, when she started to grow as an author and her plots became more intricate. Inspired by her, I’m working on that too. 🙂 Great writer!
I went into this book completely blind. I didn’t know anything about it, I didn’t read a blurb and I didn’t need to. If the cover has the name Sandra Brown on it, I know I’m going to love it and this one was no exception.
I don’t really want to say much about this one because I don’t want to spoil anything but I will say this … there are surprises consistently throughout the pages of Sting. One of them towards the beginning really knocked me on my ass and I was TOTALLY shocked. I can sometimes pick out what is going to be the plot twist with a book but that NEVER happens with Brown’s books. I think that’s why I love her novels so much and it’s definitely why I never miss a book by her.
The characters were amazing, as usual. Jordie was perfectly stubborn and infuriating while Shaw was extremely terrifying and ridiculously mysterious and handsome. The push and pull between these two characters was almost mesmerizing and the great thing is you never really knew what either of them was going to do or say next. Oh! And how Jordie was with her brother was both sad and endearing. I wish that I could say more because the dynamic between those two was interesting and constantly changing and expanding into something that you don’t expect.
The plot is as expected from Sandra Brown, it’s quick moving and totally encompassing. You’ll not finish this book wishing that some things were explored more deeply – everything is totally fleshed out and explained. Also, as usual, there weren’t any spots that slowed down and dragged the story with it. It was just a perfectly plotted book.
This is one of those books that will stick with you for a while. Of course, I’m a bit biased … I adore anything by Sandra Brown. She could start writing the back of a tampon box and I would love it and force everyone I know to read it also. Reading a book that is abundantly filled with suspense and passion is why I just can’t put Brown’s books down. If you like suspense and a snarky female heroine, this book is for you. If you like a man that is as intimidating as he is handsome, this book is for you. If you love sitting down with a book and becoming completely entranced with a swiftly moving plot line that wraps you up so tightly that you don’t want to stop reading, then this book is for you.
