I purchased a copy of the then and now novel Still The One: A Small Town Friends to Lovers Romance (The Heartbreak Brothers Book 2):Tanner and Savannah “Van” by Carrie Elks and this review was given freely.
Emotion packed with hints of steam this novel contains an unfiltered alcoholic mother who reveals a 28 year old scandal, the progressive lives of the loving and supportive Hartson family, and the rocky romance that ensue when the sweet and tender Tanner who moves home after selling his New York coding business hoping to win back his best friend and first love, Savannah/Van.
Favorite Quotes:
She’d always been obsessive about saving. Maybe somewhere deep inside she’d known her mom was a ticking time bomb. It was a matter of when, not if, she’d detonate.
“I have a sprinkle next weekend. Would you like to come?” “A sprinkle?” Van asked, biting down a smile. It sounded like some kind of incontinence problem. “What’s that?” “It’s like a baby shower, but without all the gifts.” Regan shrugged. “After three kids I have almost everything I need. And anyway, Mrs. Fairfax said it would be bad form to ask for gifts for the fourth time around.” She blinked, then forced a smile on her face.
My Review:
I am enjoying this series, but then I always enjoy reading Carrie Elk’s work. She implants me so easily into her characters’ vortex, I was so thoroughly engaged I could smell the popcorn and taste the smores. The storylines were entertaining and smirk-worthy and cast with a bevy of quirky yet complicated characters who rippled with wit and snark. I seemed to have inhaled this tale and feel more than ready for even more Carrie Elk goodness with her latest missive idling on my Kindle.
This is a wonderful read and I truly enjoyed the characters. It is a well written and a wonderful story-line. It is a page turner. It kept my intrest throughout the story.

A story in a must read series you don’t want to miss
This second chance romance will pull all the emotions from you. I stayed up most of the night reading as I was so drawn to Van and Tanner. Kids don’t always make the best decisions but can what happened in their past affect their future? Their chemistry and the will they or won’t they will keep you wondering till the end. A fantastic series with writing that is superb. I cannot wait to read what she writes next.
Tanner and Van. Best friends since they were 5. Eventually their relationship changes and they are left broken hearted. Fast forward 10 years and Tanner has decided that he wants Van back. But she will not make it easy for him. A great book. Loved it. Couldn’t put it down!!
Van and Tanner relationship started off as friends and in time it developed into something more. Van and Tanner have to deal with some ups and downs as there relationship grown and as they move into being adults. These two didn’t handle a decision in a mature way and it caused heartache for the both of them. They see each for the first time in 10 years and the feelings between these two are still there and Tanner will do anything in his power to win back the girl that he let go all those years ago. Great read and great addition to this series.

It was always you…
This second book in the Heartbreak Brothers series is as good as the first. I just loved reading Van and Tanner’s story. Best friends since kindergarten, they grew closer, until hearts are broken while they’re in college. Her family situation was never been even satisfactory, but she became part of his family. She’s back in Hartson’s Creek when Craig leaves her mother, and someone needs to be the adult and take care of her younger sister. He’s back because he sold his software company for a buttload of money, and he’s at loose ends. He buys the closed-down drive-in theater, and hires her to renovate it with him. He’s also gonna make her fall back in love with him. This is the second in the Heartbreak Brothers series, and it was an incredible book. The best thing about being back in Hartson’s Creek is seeing chairs again. It’s such a small-town activity, and Hartson’s Creek is THE stereotypical small town, complete with everybody’s business on full display, and a ton of gossip, some true but much of it not. I love the close relationships between the Hartson siblings, and how readily they accept friends into their family group. I was rooting for Van and Tanner to work things out throughout the entire book, and they get it together when they finally talk bout the past. I’m looking forward to Logan'[s story next.

Still The One is book two of the series and once again I was completely caught in the story of one of the Heartbreak brothers. I enjoyed every moment of it. Van and Tanner have fantastic chemistry and it’s obvious from the start how much they love each other even though it’s been ten years since their falling out. Fortunately, it doesn’t take long for the pieces to start coming together and their romance is back on track with a bit of drama along the way. Carrie Elks is a great storyteller and I cared a lot about these characters. I really loved this sweet, sexy, warm-hearted, second chance romance.

Carrie Elks quickly became one of my favorite romance authors with her fabulous writing style. Still The One is no exception as the story captures your heart and keeps your attention from the first words to the last words. The characters are amazing, easy to love and truly feel like family when you finish the book. A wonderful, heartwarming and endearing romance you’ll be glad you have in your reading list.

The blurb had me intrigued and made me want to read this one. right off the bat I could tell this one was going get me teary eyed. Spoiler alert it did. This book has ton of emotion and feels. Both Tanner and Van made mistakes in the past. their communication was lacking and lead to their downfall. Now fate has given them a second chance bringing them both back to their hometown. Van realizes the town is still gossip central and her family is front row for it. Can Van let the past and this town’s view of her roll right off her shoulders or will it come between her and Tanner once more? I loved watching these two fall in love again. It made my heart happy. The flashbacks of the very beginning of their friendship made it all the more sweeter in my opinion. It made my heart happy also to see tanner and his family in Van’s corner. I loved watching Van stand up to her nemesis. That just felt so good! It’s a great read that has me looking forward to more from this series!
The second book in The Heartbreak Brothers series a well written story that kept me turning pages. This is the first book in this series that I have read, I want to read the rest of this series. Savannah Butler and Tanner Hartson meet for the first time when she is six and her almost knocks her to the ground by running into her there was a spark between them then. But ten years ago she left her hometown because of something that happened, now she is back. This is their second chance. Healing The Hole In Their Hearts –
Tanner and Van collided with each other on their first day of primary school and became best friends for life. However, family drama and miscommunication, changed their budding relationship when they were teenagers. Their second chance to rekindle their friendship and relationship happened by chance, but the release of a long held secret combined with insecurities, nearly cost Tanner and Van their happily ever after.
I haven’t laughed and cried so much reading a book in such a long time, but this story really shook my core. The story had me so engrossed that it was difficult to put it down once I started reading it, as I was consistently itching to turn the page to find out what would happen next. I suggest you include this book on your ‘to be read’ list immediately. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Author Carrie Elks’ Still The One is the second standalone book in the Heartbreak Brothers Series. It is a sweet and intriguing small town friends to lovers romance, were you will both love and hate the characters.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the second book I have read by this author and I loved it just as much as the first.
This is the second book in the Heartbreaker Brothers series. It’s a second chance romance with a HEA ending.
Savannah or Van as everyone calls her has to return home to help with her little sister after her mom’s husband leaves her and she’s on a drinking binge again. Van always hated this town and didn’t think she would ever come back after having her heart smashed. She’s stronger now and can handle the gossiping chairs.
Tanner doesn’t know what to do now that he sold his business. When an opportunity comes along that will not only benefit the town but get him closer to Van he can’t pass it up. He has to make it right with her.
I am loving these Hartson Brother’s and can’t wait for the next book. Hopefully the little sister gets her own book too.
I’m so much in love you didn’t again, Carrie
I want to say I enjoyed this because I did and not everything in life is black and white. Tanner had me reeling and wanting to throw my Kindle at the wall for what he did. The author does a great job of trying to show his growth from what he did to Van but I feel like we needed to see more of it. I didn’t see his guilt or suffering and that would have gone a long way to me loving him. It’s a story with so many feelings it will have you going from blushing, to smiling, to angry and back all over again.
In Still The One, Carrie Elks brings us a story about selflessness and forgiveness. The second book in her Heartbreak Brothers series is a beautiful second chance love story, where once high school sweethearts Savannah “Van” Butler and Tanner Hartson must face the fallout from their break-up following Van’s path to college being ripped away, and Tanners grave mistake of breaking her heart.
Van has returned to Hartson Creek to take care of her mother Kim, and young sister Zoe. Circumstances for this family are pretty dire, as her mother spirals further into an alcohol induced depression. Tanner too has returned to town and while the once best friends resume the tenuous friendship side of their relationship and partner on a new endeavor, the pull of their long lost “something more” is very hard to resist. But Hartson’s Creek is not a great place for Van as some locals have long looked down on her mother, and Van finally learns who her father is. Perhaps the biggest surprise is what teenager Tanner did that drove Van away, and how she is challenged to trust again.
“For so long love had meant weakness in her world. But now she knew it didn’t. It brought a strength that no army could break down. It was solid. It was true.”
I thought this was a great story about family and forgiveness. I really loved Van’s relationship with Zoe, her dedication to making her sisters life and childhood a better one then she endured. Her very presence allows her mother to seek the help she needs, and gives the small family a good foundation in the community. Also, I couldn’t root harder for Tanner in his quest to win back her heart and their HEA. 4 Stars and recommendation!

Loved reading Still The One, the second book of The Heartbreak Brothers series. It is a perfect small town, friends to lovers, second chance romance.
Beautifully written by Carrie Elks, it tells the story of successful coder/tech prodigy Tanner Hartson and Savannah “Van” Butler, event organizer, and his former best friend. But they have avoided each other for the last ten years. They were inseparable until the finished high school, they finished each other sentences, they were simply perfect for each other. But, as often happens, life got in the way.
The book touches on several issues like loss, betrayal, alcoholism, dysfunctional families, avoidance, and forgiveness… all encompassed in what they entail in a small community where everyone is always up in each others’ business. These topics are seamlessly intertwined with the characters’ story in such a way that they enriched the plot without making it heavy. The story works and flows.
Still The One is, so far, my favorite book in the series!
Still The One by Carrie Elks is the second book in The Heartbreak Brothers series. This is a friends to lovers, second chance romance lovestory that brings on the emotions. There is a little taste of angst, a whole lot of sweet and amazing characters. I absolutely love Van and Tanner, they are adorable and I was fully devoted to seeing them make it to a Happily Ever After. I really like this series and need more now, please.
I was able to read an advanced copy of this title and am reviewing voluntarily and honestly my own thoughts, opinion and reactions based on that copy.
