As someone who has read every single Aspen Cove novel written by Ms Collins, I went into this with high expectations (everyone who has read that series understands this, if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?!). I knew this would be a bit more full of angst than those considering it’s a Lovers-to-enemies(ish I use that loosely)-to-?*spoilers * if you love hot tattooed guys, meddlesome mothers, a cute florist, and a quirky best friend— all wrapped up in a small town romance, this is the book for you!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a decent second chance story. I liked both Lara and Grayson and was rooting for them to be together but Lara was very hot and cold with him. It was hard to get a good handle on her.
Lara and Grayson were high school sweethearts that had a falling out after graduation. Ten years later and Lara has her own flower shop in their small town Colorado. It was sad that Lara couldn’t admit that no one lived up to her memories of Grayson. I was torn about my feelings for Grayson. His mother has spoiled him, and he seems self centered and selfish. By the end of the book, I warmed up to him more. I loved Lara’s best friend. The two were good for each other. I know it was hard for Lara when Grayson came back to town, but I am so glad he did. There are some ups and downs in this book that made me happy and sad. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.
Grayson Gamble left Beloved, Colorado ten years ago for California and the chance to make his dream come true. He started Scratchers, a tattoo parlor that has become wildly successful, to showcase his artistic designs. Unfortunately, his dream came at the price of his love for Lara. Lara Williams was his first love and she was adamant that if he left without her then he shouldn’t bother coming back for her. Lara has made a success of her popular florist shop, Stems, and has refused all contact with Grayson. She would have gone with him, but he said that it wasn’t an option. Grayson is now back home in Beloved due to a strange phone call he received from his mother. Is Lara still in town? Will he be able to reconnect with her or has she moved on with her life? Is it too late for Lara and Grayson? A very enjoyable romance about choices made that change the course of lives. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. This book didn’t take me all the way to ugly crying, but it was a very near thing. Lara and Grayson get a second chance to get it right when his mother calls him home to Beloved, and in the process reminds him to focus on what really matters. This pair had a very tumultuous past, and their present isn’t shaping up to be much smoother sailing. They’ve each got heaps of resentment that they’re carrying around and unpacking all that relationship baggage makes for some emotionally charged reading. I loved this pair together. They feed into all my darkest drama-loving fantasies. And the teaser for the next book makes me ravenous to get my hands on it.

This is a fabulous read! I look forward to each and every book this author writes and this book stands right up there at the top. It is a second chance sort of story-line; it is a work hard to make a career; and, it is a ‘don’t forget those you leave behind’ book. There are lines in this story that I had to highlight and write down such as the topic of nostalgia; “A cup of worry. A dash of sexy. A pinch of love. It created the perfect soup of vulnerability, nothing more.” And, I cried. Grayson and Lara make a dynamite duo.
I thank the author for giving me an ARC copy which I loved.
