There were so many things about this book that I liked. I liked the characters of Jack and Sasha. They were just likable people who has something thrown at them and decisions were made that in the moment seemed like the right thing to do.
I liked the character of Jack. He was a good friend, wonderful boyfriend and loyal firefighter. One horrific situation caused Jack to not only lose his best friend but the love of his life. I really liked the concept that Jack never got over Sasha. He knew they were meant to be together and she was it for him.
I liked Sasha 99% of the time. I think she acted very rashly in her decision to end things with Jack but yet I know people grieve differently. I liked that she was a strong character and she was there for her sister-in-law and niece.
I really enjoyed this book.
I like Jack but I was mildly disappointed that he didn’t wait long to move on with his life after Sasha left him. His ex girlfriend was a shrew. I didn’t care much for Sasha. She was immature and selfish. I realize she had suffered a huge loss and was hurting but she had to have known the risk of Jack’s job. By the end, Sasha grew on me a little more.
The arsonist is still out there somewhere and he or she is escalating and getting more personal.
There will be another book in this series. I don’t know why I thought this was the final book. I’m good with more additions to this series.
Firefighter romances were my thing when I first started to read e-books, I loved them, I devoured them, the more the heat and angst from the dangers of the job, the better. And Leora Gonzales’ books have reignited that fire for these stories in me. I can’t get enough of them!
Ms. Gonzales has such an enjoyable way to tell a story, the humor and laugh-out-loud moments balance the deep sorrow, angst, and despair. The banter is spirited, the flirting is filled with titillating innuendoes, the love scenes are filled with deep emotions, tenderness, adoration, and hot-hot-hot sexual tension.
In Still Burning, the accidental roommates + second chance romance + brother’s best friend romance, Sasha Kendall and Jack Turner have all the feels, connection, chemistry – everything that one could think that a relationship requires, yet they have to dig deep to find the courage to trust life to deliver moments meaningful enough to balance the danger of losing each other one day.
Add to that mix the serial arsonist keeping all the fire station personnel on their toes, and Jack’s mentally unstable ex-girlfriend who comforted him after Sasha walked away — you got all the feels, heat, humor, threat and danger in a well-twined tale that entertained.
Even though I am not a fan of the third person drama in my romance, here it worked, and towards the end made an excellent plot twist.
For those sunny, summer beach days, binge reading in the garden, or however you want to do it, Braving the Heat series entertain your romantic mind while providing the best of friends, tight brotherhood, humor, heart, laughter, danger, and swoon-worthy moments in ardent, entertaining romance tales…
~ Four Spoons
This is the third book in the series. The title of this book fits it so perfectly. It’s a second chance romance. The beginning of this one has me a little teary eyed and you could feel the sadness rolling off all the characters. To see where Sasha and her sister-in-law are four years later made me really happy. Sasha’s niece is so adorable. She steals the scenes she is in for sure. Sasha and Jack still have the chemistry burning between even all these years later. I loved watching those to reconnect. They have some things to work through, but the connection they have you know they have what it takes. Though there is someone out there trying to ruin their future. These is some parts of this book that kept me on the edge of my seat seat. Twists that keep things interesting. Things are heating up for the station when one of their own is threatened. I loved Sasha. I want to be part of her group pf friends. They have fun and they have each other’s backs. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
The group of friends in this series are so much fun and so supportive, I just love them. And I love the way they take more and more people into their fold and make them all feel like family.
When we first meet Sasha and Jack, it’s a very sad and trying time for them both. Sasha takes things a bit harder than most and her spiraling is the downfall of their relationship. But, through the years, they never could get over their relationship. Which means that when they run into each other again, years later, their chemistry re-ignites immediately.
Although Jack and Sasha make amends pretty quickly, things aren’t all roses. They still have their past hurts to air. And just because Sasha realizes she is not happy without Jack doesn’t mean she’s instantly okay with his job. I have an appreciation for the author for her ability to keep things real yet still fun.
I find myself looking forward to this series more an more with each story. This author really knows how to bring the heat (pun intended) to her couples.

This next story in the series is a second chance for love between Jack and Shasa. After tragic Sasha can’t cope with their loss so she runs from everything and everyone. When she decides that is maybe time to start living in her life unexpectedly comes her exboyfriend who is also her new roommate. Jack is positively surprised to see Shasa and to learn that they will be roommates. After hurting for so long he is also ready to start living that is the way he is ready to start fighting for the one that got away. The only trouble is Jack ex and his job. Will Shasa accepted Jack with all his good and bad? An interesting love story that I liked that it was not predictable, I loved the humor and wish there would bitt more. Jack and Sasha’s attraction is hot and explosive. I liked that we see all the gang and how are they doing. Can’t wait to see arsonist to be caught and next love story of Tinman.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
I hope you are keeping up with series because they do elude to some of the situations that happened in previous books characters, yes they explain some of it but I feel like you get more if you read them. I have to admit that I did not read the first one, but do plan to, I started with the second book which was about Nix and Lou. In this one we meet Sasha and Jack who are now renting Lou’s house since she moved in with Nix. We find out that Sasha and Jack were previous lovers who though while still loving each other had broken apart when Sasha’s brother had died in a fire and Sasha couldn’t be with Jack if he stayed a firefighter. (yes you get upset at this) I felt bad for Sasha and even understood where she was coming from but it was also unfair of her to just let Jack go without truly discussing how she felt. When these two see each other all the feelings that they had were still there and they decided to work on it and them and you were rooting for them because they truly should have been together. We know that nothing is ever easy and Jack had a cray cray he had to deal with as well as a firebug who is getting some sort of revenge on those in the unit that he along with the rest of the gang we met and love work in..can’t wait for next one…Enjoy!
