Gargoyles are not what you think…Sten’s ship crashed on Earth centuries ago, and since then, he’s been hiding in plain sight, awaiting rescue. But a thousand years is a long time to go without companionship, even for a long-lived alien, and the human female he’s guarded since childhood has grown into an alluring woman. When a mysterious man offers to buy the “statue” in Angie’s garden, Sten … “statue” in Angie’s garden, Sten knows he’s been discovered. The Rose Syndicate has hunted his kind for centuries, capturing and torturing his fellow Khargals in the name of science. But simply fleeing isn’t an option; Angie has a secret. One he’s sworn to protect.
Forced to reveal himself, Sten is confronted with a new truth. Impossible as it seems, Angie is his mate.
And the urge to claim her may be his undoing.
STICKS AND STONES is a standalone story in the collaborative Khargals of Duras series, with no cliffhangers and a guaranteed HEA. Enjoy the books in any order!

OMGEEEEEEEE!! Such a good read! This book might be a quick read (I devoured it in the span of about 3 hours, because I wasn’t allowed to just sit and read it all in one sitting), but it is jam-packed with action and sexiness. Loved it!
What a great story. There is so much to this story like gargoyles, aliens, intrigue, suspense and other other worldly things. She didn’t know were part of her from her ancestors. All she has left is her estate and a guy wants to buy the gargoyle standing out front of it. I won’t go into any more detail as it will spoil it for you. I highly recommend it. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
I enjoyed reading Angie and Sten’s story, it is filled with action and intrigue. The interaction and chemistry between them is wonderful. I can’t wait for more from this author. I received this book as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review.
Sticks and Stones is one of the books in the Khargals of Duras shared world series. Tamsin Ley is a natural fit for this series since she is often looking for mates for monsters. These ‘monsters’ are loyal and trustworthy and strong and pretty swoon-worthy, if you like wings and tails and horns with your muscles. I think this shared world is pretty great and has struck a chord with a lot of those of us who had a thing for Gargoyles the animated series and have been craving ‘more’ for years. Tamsin spins a lovely tale and her characters are very appealing. I especially liked the Epilogue on Duras. I can’t wait to discover the rest of the crew that the other author’s have created for us.
The Khargal’s of Duras.
Sten and Angie’s Story.
He crashed to earth over a thousand years ago, waiting to be rescued.
A family guardian Gargoyle.
An interaction initiated in a wickedly hot, passionate, not really a dream.
The blame game, an apology, an intruder, a prime directive and a pottery eating Khargal.
All this and so much more, in this fast paced, couldn’t put down, page turning piece of storytelling by Ms Tamsin Ley.
The storyline is so well written, and though this was a quick easy read, you’ll be left wanting more.
This can be read as a stand alone, but really! Why would you?
This is just 1 in a series of 7 book’s being released by some wonderful author’s, that I can’t wait to get my hands on.
I am and would highly recommend this book to one and all.
I received an advanced reader’s copy of “Stick’s and Stone’s” but am voluntarily leaving this review, plus I pre-ordered a copy, for a friend as I enjoyed this so much.
Characters were interesting. There is a lot of action. Sten is a gargoyle. Angie is a member of the family he’s been protecting for years. These gargoyle’s are from another planet and crash landed on earth around 1000 years ago. A comrade of his had a device that would alter people’s perception of his appearance. His friend met a human and fell in love and they had a child. When his friend was discovered by humans he was killed but Sten saved his child. This led to his protection of the family. When his identity is discovered by a member of a group, looking for his type of alien, the action begins. Really enjoyed the story once I got into it. There are sexual scenes. If this offends you, this is not the book for you. If you’re ready for a great read, dive in!
I liked it
I like this one best out of the series.
This book wasn’t as good as the first one, but still worth reading the rest of the series.
Fabulous plot. I couldn’t help but cheer them on!
Not my normal genre but very enjoyable. I didn’t want it to end.
Easy 5 stars. Sten and Angie’s story is a ton of fast paced fun. Great character development and true chemistry between them just makes the gargoyle side more interesting. I adore Tamsin Ley’s alien stories so I was very hopeful for this one going in and it was not a disappointment. Fun, fast read. Plan enough time to read it to the end—you won’t want to put it down. I’m going after the other books in this series based on how much I liked this one. Highly recommend.
Khargal and the gargoyle fangirl
Most enjoyable HEA romance between the gargoyle in the garden and the girl who owns the historic house and grounds. He’s a Khargal, a stone alien whose ship crashed on Earth a millennium ago, and she’s…. In love with an alien gargoyle! It’s a slightly bittersweet small-town romance with an Area 51 flavor, good guys to root for and bad guys to hiss and boo.
Oooo another fantastic read from this series.
This story focuses on Angie, a avid gardener who lives in a rundown historical mansion. When she isn’t struggling to redo the house, or working at the local diner..her time is spent in her garden with her heirloom seeds and the family gargoyle… a statue that has resided in the garden for years. He is also the object of her lusty affections.
Turns out the family gargoyle, Sten.. isn’t just a statue but an alien that crush landed a thousand years ago with his crew members…separate to avoid being found…he settled into the role of protector after his friend and fellow Khargal, Graj found a mate and perished trying to keep her and their child safe.. dedicating his life to protecting Graj’s offspring… he finds himself awake after many years with the possibility of his own mate close to hand…. but first he must protect her from the creepy rose syndicate and their evils plans.
I loved the intensity and emotion that developed quickly between Sten and Angie, it was insta love at its finest And this book captured my attention from the get go.
I really enjoyed this book, it was intriguing and action packed. Sten was a wonderful leading man both protective and nurturing. I liked Angie a lot.. she was very no nonsense and I found that wonderfully refreshing.
Most of all without spoilers… because #NoSpoilers! It threw me a curveball that I wasn’t expecting but found absolutely thrilling! And OMG! that ending was perfect… I love a good epilogue!!
Well worth reading!
Such an exciting story!
With all the fine authors participating in this series, I had high expectations. The books are exceeding those expectations!
I love it! When Sten takes action to protect his friend’s family, it is the start of a rapidly escalating love!
Guess what? Khargals are very protective – especially with their Hondassa. I adore Sten and his loving nature with Angie.
Angie is really a fascinating character. She has plenty of surprises for us. She discovers abilities under stress that she never knew about.
I especially enjoyed the epilogue where we get a glimpse of what happens in the future!
Angie and Sten’s story has suspense, drama, danger, twists and turns, kidnapping, villains, and romance. Recommend this book. I received a copy through K U and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
If you’re looking for a gargoyle romance? Found it. If you’re looking for an alien romance? Found it. This is the first time I’ve seen these two concepts combined, and I have to say, I enjoyed it. Gargoyles aren’t as big as they should be in the paranormal romance genre (in my humble opinion) so I really enjoy when there’s a new addition. I have yet to read the others in this ‘set’, but I look forward to them, especially if Mrs. Ley’s contribution is anything to go by.
To review without spoilers…
This is the story of a stranded alien who has spent the last 1000 years guarding the family of a friend who died not long after they crashed on our world. Though his history is tragic, he doesn’t let it keep him from hoping for rescue, or from protecting those he’s sworn to guard. In a handy twist of fate (gotta love fantasy writing for this little bit alone!), the last of his charges just so happens to be his mate. I love Angie’s spunk and zeal for life; she just makes me happy to read about her, and it’s even better that she gets to have an amazing mate and make his world brighter too.
They embark on the beginning of their romance amidst danger and hope of recovery, making the road rough, but even better for it. I loved Sten and Angie and also her friend Mae. They made an excellent contrast to the villains. If you want a story with action, heart, a good bit of steam, and whole lot of gargoyle, this is for you! As always, there is an HEA and this story can stand on it’s own despite it’s inclusion in the ‘set’ Khargals of Duras.
Tamsin Ley wrote a enjoyable story in the series of “Khargals of Duras” that is written by different authors. Sten is one of the Khargals who been guarding Angie’s family because they are descendants of his comrade Graf. Angie been struggling to keep the family home when a rich man offers to buy her house. She says “no” but he sends a thief to steal the necklace Angie was wearing. This wakes Sten who’s been a statue in her garden and he combats the intruder and Angie comes downstairs with her rifle and shoots Sten. When she sees him she thinks she’s dreaming… This has action with the Rose Syndicate who are capturing and experimenting on the Khargals and romance between Sten and Angie plus it’s a well written story which made me interested to see the stories written by the other authors in this series. I volunteer to read and review this ARC.
The good news is that Tamsin Ley’s Sticks and Stones (Khargals of Duras, Book 4) can definitely be read as a standalone. The better news is that this story is pretty freaking awesome. I love Angie and Sten’s story. I love how Sten the gargoyle turn out to be a “sexy-as-hell” shipwrecked alien Khargal. Action, adventure and romance. This is a true blast of a story. The only downside? Now (despite this working as a standalone) I’m bummed I haven’t read the first three books in the series. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
