Can not recommend this book enough!
Dark RH done right!
Steps is one of those books that takes you into its grip and rips out your heart, wrangles your brain and then puts you back together again – almost. An extraordinary read, a rollercoaster of emotions. Bea Paige has created a masterpiece that combines beautiful prose, broken and twisted characters as well as an emotional tension that persists throughout the book. A must read!
Dark and twisted with triggers. This book was brilliantly written and looks at different aspects. It hooked me and left me wanting tinjniw more about each charcter…. I’m wanting tononiw know more about Erik and Anton but hopefully that’s what the next books digs into which I can not wait. As I said this book is and dark and gritty and has triggers so be warned… i loved it
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Bea has really written an amazingly complex dark romance novel this time and I am totally in love with it now. We meet Rose who has been dealt a really rough hand in life but she is attempting to find a job that she desperately needs so she goes to a job interview. Once hired she meets three of the most mysterious men that will change her life forever if they can learn to get along first. Full of angst, depression, haunting pasts, and so very much more that is well written while being respectful. It sucked me down the rabbit hole and refused to let me go until I ran out of pages to read. Really is a must read!!! I loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
Dark. Steamy. Intriguing. A masterpiece.
Tired of reading about sappy love stories and weak female characters who always need constant saving? Then this book is something you have to read.
This is Bea Paige’s best work. I never usually like dark novels but I’m glad I read this book. I couldn’t put it down. I love everything about it. It made me change the way how I view dark novels. This book, however, has trigger warnings and it’s better to read them before starting the book.
The series has three males whose stories will be revealed by each book in the series. Book One, Steps, will mainly focus on Ivan. He’s a complex man. Along reading the book, we will get to see the secrets and reason behind the way he acts. In this book, we are introduced as well to the female main character, Rose, who despite having to give up dancing due to her medical condition, still dances to escape her own demons. We get to see her background story. The battle of control between Rose and Ivan is something you wouldn’t be able to get enough of. It’s intriguing. The great thing about this book is we get to view the world differently. All the characters are tormented with their own demons and passions. This book felt real for it also shows how our own past affects who we are today. That not everything about life is perfect. This book taught me to not judge people easily for we all have secrets, something we hide from the rest of the world.
I definitely recommend this book and couldn’t wait to read the next book, Strokes, which will mainly focus on Anton.
Every so often an author will write a book that makes you view the world differently. That challenges the way you view works that the author has previously written and opens your mind to new ideas and experiences. Bea Paige has done that for me with this book. I normally do not like dark romance books. However, this book drew me in with the first words. I was immediately drawn to the character of Rose. Rose is broken in so many ways, from her debilitating illness to the experiences that she had as a teenager, each has shaped her in such a way that when she recognizes the same “demons” in Ivan, Anton, and Erik, she is immediately drawn to them and finally begins to feel “whole” again. These men need her in the same way that she needs them in order feel “whole.” Erik breaks my heart because I have a loved one who struggles at times with PTSD, so I know the ravages of that disease. This book is thought-provoking, haunting, and beautifully written, and I cannot wait for Anton’s story.
Wow! Just Wow! I feel a loss of words. This story is great and I am so sad that I read it so fast. Love Rose! So great to see her find Ivan, Anton, and Erik. Being able to “save” Ivan was such a great start to this series. I really look forward to seeing how everything goes with Anton and Erik..My only problem is that I have to wait for the next book!
Prior to Steps, I’d not read anything by this author. I had a bunch of her books on my TBR list, but just hadn’t gotten around to it. Then, I saw the book trailer for this book, and it completely piqued my interest, so I read the blurb. I was totally hooked. I knew this one was straight on my TBR; I couldn’t stop thinking about it, though. I really started looking forward to the release date, which I rarely do. I mean, there are books I’m interested in, but I rarely watch the calendar.
Because I’d not read this author before, I read this through KU. If I would have had my way, I would not have put this book down. However, crazy toddlers and life happened, and it took an infuriating three days to read it, where no one would leave me alone to read. I’m so glad I persisted through all of the interruptions. This was one of those books where you forget you’re reading. The characters, the descriptions, the story are all so descriptive and enthralling that you just lose yourself, wholly, to the story. The main character is this broken doll, a fragment of what she considers she used to be, who is trying to figure out what that means exactly for her life now. She meets these equally broken men, and she realises that maybe there is life going ahead, however broken that life may be. Story-wise, it was this real mix of feeling like a lot happened and not a lot happened. I think that’s down to how much character background is jam packed into this book, but it was all necessary. It didn’t drag the pace down or feel irrelevant in any way. Overall, the book had a real Gothic, Wuthering Heights feel to me. It was truly phenomenal, and I am DYING for book 2 to come out.
This book is by far one of the most emotionally intense book I’ve come across in quite a while. It’s one of those books where by the end of it, you’re just left stunned and speechless. And that end?!?! I knew I should have waited longer to read this, simply because now I have to wait to find out what happens next!
This was…. wow. I’ve been in a reading slump for a few months now and I’ve done alright with a few books from authors I’ve been reading for years, but this dark story seriously had me intrigued in ways that I forgot I could feel. I read a book that was more comedic than anything, and it made me smile. I read this book, and it was all so enticing and mysterious and “dangerous” and then dangerous (totally italicize that last word).
I liked Rose. She initially came off as this type of woman with a set history so you already think you know everything, but then everything changes and you start to wonder. I thought that bit was brilliant. I loved the characters. I absolutely loathe the woman I will not name and when you read this book, you’ll know exactly who I’m referring to. I wasn’t 100% submerged until around 20% percent. Most of this was really good and there were some parts that made my toes tingle. Then there were the few things that showed up like a thing bobbing in water that I wasn’t 100% feeling because they took me out of the book. It’s probably just me, but I don’t like flowery/poetic dialogue because it doesn’t sound realistic. Like I’ll stop reading to envision someone saying it out loud and it just doesn’t work. I totally get it and most times it works because it’s a book, but it’s small things like that, that I’m taken out of the story, and I’d rather be enjoying the book than questioning something that feels like magic.
Aside from that, the following areas felt like I was toddling: the beginning, somewhere in the near end of the middle, and the end. One part felt too long, the others felt too convenient. The end was amazingly hot but when you compare it to the way everything got built up in the first half of the book, the second half just felt like it wasn’t given the same amount of pacing.
Overall, it’s a 4 because of those things mentioned above but this is also a book I bought and will most certainly buy for others for the holidays. I love the set up the author did, I love the detail. I love it, love it, love it. I’m stoked for the second book, and until that time, I’ll be recommending this to my other friends who adore dark romances. My favorite book of this author thus far.
First, I have decided there is absolutely nothing Paige cannot write! I was so entranced there are no words! I had to read this twice and I don’t reread books! The world, the characters, the writing, the feels. I have no idea how to put into words what this did to me and the emotional roller coaster of awesomeness. The only think I can say is YOU MUST READ this book. It is a departure from the expected but that just adds to the greatness. I absolutely cannot wait for more!!
I loved this book. It was super twisted. Each chapter you learn something new and twisted about the characters. I cannot wait for the next book. I’m so ready to delve back into the lives of the characters.
I really ended up enjoying this book. I liked the characters and the storyline. I read in one sitting.
Wow – this story is intense, dark, and beautiful. It is about 4 people battling their demons and looking for someone to see them. Rose is a combination of vulnerability and strength, and I love how she stands her ground with the guys. I can’t wait to see what happens in book 2!
WOW this is a powerful story line. Steps follows Rose, a strong-willed female on her journey to discovery of what will be her 3 men. This story focuses more on her relationship with Ivan though. Each of the characters have such depth and inner demons that are beautifully depicted in this book. I was hooked from the first page and could not put it down. After finishing the epilogue I am left with an absolute oh my moment. I never would have guessed some of the twists and turns that happen in this story and cannot wait to see what happens next in book 2.
Dark. Seductive. Haunting.
Three words that popped to my mind after reading this book. And what a story it is.
I have always been a fan of dark read. From the cover to the blurb, you can say that I am drawn to this book like a moth to a flame. It calls to me. But I wasn’t ready enough.
First page in and I am hooked. I couldn’t, for the life of me, stop reading. The story had me by the throat and wouldn’t let me go. I am seduced by the beautifully broken characters, that chillingly dark tone in the story that never leaves. It was beautifully written; the believable characters and world building that will suck you right in and make you live it. The lies after lies, secrets after secrets, that you want to unravel and had you at the edge of your seat. Ivan with his dark and tragic past, Anton who is an enigma, Erik with a tortured soul, and most surprising of all, Rose who is not who as it seems.
I came out of this book, dazed. But with THAT ending, I am left wanting for more.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
“In these men, I’ve found a place to belong, and with me they’ve found a way to be set free.” Rose
Steps is the amazing first book in the Finding Their Muse trilogy. It is heart wrenching to live with these characters, learning about how each has been damaged and scarred, particularly Ivan and Rose in this novel. But in all the pain, there is hope that they will find their place to belong, their way to be set free. As the tension mounts, these characters emerge as broken but not defeated and their triumph over the demons that rule them assured in the relationship they form with each other. This novels probes at some issues and behaviors that the reader may find uncomfortable so be forewarned. However, I found that it was handled carefully and not overwhelming. I can not wait for the next book and recommend it highly.
WOW. This book left me speechless! I have read all of Bea Paige’s other books but this one is totally different from her other stuff. This is FABULOUS. If I could only write one sentence about this book it would be:
“Bea Paige does dark better than Batman” get it? Cause he is the Dark Knight…? No? Okay… Moving on. LOL.
Bea Paige does a fabulous job of bringing the characters to life and creating a story that is enticing and smooth. There is never a time where the story feels forced or that it gets dull. I can NOT wait to get the next book!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This story is great for those who seek the darkness of despair and desolation, without wanting to step away from the light so many of us live in.
Have you ever felt like the demons of your past continue to haunt you? Felt like decisions you once made shaped your future? From the first page, Bea Paige is able to captivate you with the story of Ivan, who is tormented by his guilt, and Rose, who refuses to back down from those who seek to destroy her. There is also Anton and Erik, both character who we see play a significant part of this story, but have their own stories to tell as well.
Steps captures the beauty in giving yourself completely to another person. Whilst the characters still have their secrets, we are slowly learning that perhaps all it takes is for one person to understand to truly help you overcome the darkness that tries to drag you under.
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author for review consideration**
This book was intensely amazing. This story was very emotional and the author did a great job of bringing those feelings to life. O was hooked from the very first page. I loved getting to know the characters and cant wait to know more of Rose’s hidden background. I also can’t wait to learn more about the rest of her harem. I will be eagerly awaiting book 2.
