Love and hate collide when two families merge!Bailey and Cooper will take you on a crazy ride as they struggle with their attraction to each other!BlurbThe first time Bailey Walker met Cooper Christie, he tripped her up; the second time, he stole her bra and broke her cell; and the third time, he drove away, leaving her alone at the kerb. In short, he was an ass!The problem was that he was the … ass!
The problem was that he was the hottest guy Bailey ever seen, and as much as she loathed everything about him, she couldn’t help but be attracted to him.
When her mom asked her to go dress shopping, little did she know how much her life was going to change! Not only had her mom been dating Cooper’s father in secret, she was now engaged to him and the wedding date was set.

This was a new genre for me. This story was lots of twists, a heap of drama and a love story mixed in. I felt this author really understood the characters and I think it could be taken further, specifically for the female lead. I feel she has more room to grow and I would look forward to seeing how that develops. This was my first read by Stacy McWilliams.
This is my first book by this author, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. It is a romance story that is written with heart and soul. This author’s attention to details made me feel as if I was part of the story. I enjoyed being pulled in right from the beginning and it kept me turning pages. This is a story about love and hate. From the moment Bailey meets Cooper her attraction to him is off the charts. Problem is she can’t stand him. But her biggest problem is that her mother is now engaged to Cooper’s father. Is Cooper out of bounds for her now? This is where the story was hard to put down. They are great characters that I had no problem connecting with. They took me on an emotional roller coaster which I enjoyed every minute of. I highly recommend this book. You don’t want to miss the chemistry between these two for sure.
Stepbrother (Step Dilemma Series Book 1)
By Stacy McWilliams
5 out of 5 stars
The story Stepbrother (Step Dilemma Series Book 1) by Stacy McWilliams is a book that had me hooked. It pulled me in from the very beginning and didn’t let me go until the final page. The story is one of love and hate, passion and desire, disappointment, and romance. The characters of Bailey and Cooper are both interesting and at times hard to understand the reasons for their actions. Bailey is a character that I had a lot of empathy for. Her life has been turned upside down and things never seem to quite work out for her. She is intelligent and strong. She also is kind and thoughtful to those she cares about. Cooper is a character that I never was sure of what his motives were or if he had a method to his madness. While there are moments that I had empathy for him there are others that I didn’t know what to think and was left with my mouth open at the things he did. What does the future hold for Bailey and Cooper? Read this book to find out. This is a story that had my emotions going up and down the entire time I was reading it. There are additional characters that interact with Bailey and Cooper. Some of them I had a hard time liking while others grew to care about just like I did Bailey. This is a book that includes forbidden feelings and there are heartbreaking moments as well. The author does a wonderful job of making the characters and story come alive. I would recommend reading it.
I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review.
This is a great book about two teenager’s who fall in love, the only problem is that their love is forbidden. The other problem is that they love/hate each other.
Then throw in strong family dynamics, where the father rules and the mother follows.
I love the way that Stacy writes, it just flows and it’s easy read
This book is absolutely brilliant and definitely onethat I would recommend reading
Stacy McWilliams is a new author to me and this is the first book of hers I’ve read. However, I can tell you right now that she’s become one of my firm favourites after reading this emotional and heart wrenching story. I spent weeks excitedly waiting for release day and downloaded it as soon as I could. I had things I should’ve been doing today, but they were soon pushed aside once I picked up this 5 star read and finished it in the same day.
Stepbrother hits you hard from the start and doesn’t let go all the way through. By chapter 4 I was ready to cry as I saw what Bailey had to go through after already dealing with so much heartbreak. I was introduced to characters I hated and others I hoped would make her life better; some I kept changing my mind about as the story progressed. The jury is still out about Cooper though!
Stacy McWilliams clearly has talent and doesn’t hold back when showing you the reality of choices and decisions made by the people around you. This story definitely isn’t all sunshine and roses, and happily ever after doesn’t arrive yet as Stepbrother ends on a cliffhanger that had me jumping online to see if I could find when book 2 will be released – it’s in August of this year by the way lol.
Stepbrother isn’t an easy story to read, but if you want a story that hits you right in the feels and has you sitting there stunned when you get to the end, then this is the story for you. Roll on 30 August when I can get my hands on the second book because I need more of Bailey and Cooper. The two teaser chapters of Stepsister at the end have left me hanging and I need to know what happens. It’s going to be a long few weeks!
I love how author Stacy McWilliams show how one person can go through so much turmoil and still stay strong.
Baileys life took a downward spiral when her dad decided he no longer wanted to be married to her mother. As if that wasn’t enough, a tragic accident takes someone else close to her. Her and her mom are not close and dad has pretty much wiped his hands clean with her.
When Baileys mom reveals that she is seeing someone, she had no idea it would result in them having to move and she would have 2 stepbrothers. Everything on the surface looks good, but as the days and weeks pass, she learns no one is who or what they pretended to be.
Bailey is stuck in a new home, no friends and 2 stepbrothers from hell. Will the brothers realize they are taking their anger out on the wrong person? Will they change their ways and except that she is part of the family?
This book was a real page turner and well worth the read with the good character and storyline development that kept me totally engaged throughout the entire book!
This is hard to rate because I was entertained and actually want to read the next book; cliffhanger ending for this book, but this book is so frustrating! The characters are so moronic and pathetic; I couldn’t stand how much they lack any common sense or self-worth. There are so many despicable people in this story! The writing also didn’t quite flow; too much telling going on. I did enjoy the passion between Bailey and Cooper; their feelings do come through, but oh boy! Cooper torments Bailey too much.
Bailey’s mom marries some rich guy with 2 sons. The 2 boys aren’t happy about it, so they torture Bailey; emotionally and physically. Bailey barely makes a peep about it; she just cowers and lets it continue. Her lack of a backbone probably has to do with her horrible parents; a father who told her he doesn’t want her around his new family, and a mother who doesn’t want to lose her cushy new life. Plus, the boys don’t have the best example in their less than stellar father. While Cooper is abusing Bailey, Cooper realizes he is falling for Bailey, but hates it, so he acts like a douche. This may get have some spoilers, so beware!
He flaunts his sexual acts with other girls in front of Bailey; not just a couple times either, and Bailey keeps allowing him to do this and taking him back. Back and forth they go. It was so pathetic to me; how many times Bailey allows Cooper to treat her so poorly and that she cheats with him multiple times, and is surprised when he cheats on her. Cooper is with some other girl and Bailey knows it, but 2 seconds later lets him get with her anyway; while the girl is right outside the door! What in the heck is wrong with you?! Cooper is a mess of a human; his actions were disgusting, his excuses aren’t good enough for how much of an idiot he is. It’s really ridiculous how much Bailey put up with. I will say the emotion between Bailey and Cooper does come through; you can feel the connection, but come on! Where’s your self-worth?
There’s time jumps in this story; which aren’t my favorite: Bailey and Cooper meet when 15. The jumps start out short with weeks and months, but then years. When the story ends, they are graduated from college, but they are still immature. So, yeah, with the cliffhanger in this book I do want to read the next book because despite the absolute idiocy of the characters, the story is still interesting. Hopefully, Cooper and Bailey mature and start using their brains more. I want some major groveling in the next book!!
This book is a beautiful and unexpected read that turns out innocent but forever changes the direction of the character’s lives as they know it. Bailey Walker and Cooper Christie have a playful attraction to one another but it’s also a slight rival. Cooper drives Bailey mad with the things he does to her from breaking her cell and stealing her bra.
The truth is they like each other but when they find out their parents are engaged, what does this mean for them and their attraction? This taboo tale will lead you down unexpected paths.
This book is such a crazy ride you can’t help but be obsessed to see where it turns. Pick up this one and get ready to go on a journey unlike any other.
Wow… Another fantabulous read from Stacy x
There is such a line line between love and hate.
She captured the feelings of a teenager going into a new family dynamic wonderfully. The relationship between teenagers thrown together, who have their own issues to deal with, then realising that they have to fight what they feel. Naivety, lust, hate, love, loathing and that’s just between Coop and Bails… Not to mention the ever present parents and the revolving door of Coops bedroom. I truly cannot wait for book 2 x
I loved this book and its characters. I can hardly wait for the next one to find out what happens. Please review after reading for the authors
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Do you remember what it’s like to be a teenager? All of those emotions coursing through you, one minute you’re filled with anger and the next you’re in a ball crying. No middle ground anywhere. Stacy McWilliams has remembered these emotions and has brought each and every one of them to her story.
Bailey from the very start does not have the support that every child deserves. She’s lost her brother and her mum has pushed her away, so there’s no support in this young girl’s world.
This story will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. One moment I think that Cooper has finally got his act together and the next I want to just walk away from him. He takes Bailey on a journey where she’s never on stable ground. The situations that she’s put you in will leave you shaking in anger.
I cannot wait for the conclusion of this story. I’m already making up scenarios in my head of what should happen and what I hope happens to individuals.
This is a book that I will happily tell everyone to read and that they will not be able to put down.
***3 stars***
Stepbrother: Step Dilemma Series Book 1 by Stacy McWilliams
Mingling of families with teenagers is going to be hard regardless, but add in poor communication, bad parenting skills, drug abuse, and manipulation and of course it’s bad news. I did like the connection between Cooper and Bailey and also liked how the kids connected over the crap they all ended up dealing with in regards to Shawn and his way of disciplining them. This book involves physical, emotional, and mental abuse, as well as some steamy romance. Everyone in the family needs professional counseling. There’s so much dysfunction in how they all (including Bailey’s mom) deal with things that it felt like I was watching a Lifetime movie. If you are looking for something different and dramatic then give this book a shot.
I’m always a fan of the taboo romances. I love the forbidden aspect and the internal battles that ensue. This is a new author to me and she did not disappoint. Bailey and Cooper had amazing chemistry from the start. There was no denying that the fire was there. We got to see many sides of Cooper, even though not all were good, you can’t deny wanting all good things happen to him. The issues they faced were very real in a situation that they shared. I enjoyed this book immensely and cannot wait for more.
This book is frustrating but also a page turner. There were times I wanted to strangle some of the characters but I couldn’t put it down. The ending makes you want to read what happens next. This story is almost like a bouncy house of emotions with a huge love-hate relationship. I felt bad for Bailey for all she’s been through and keeps being put through things. It’s an intense story.
Stepbrother is the first book in the Step Dilemma series by Stacy McWilliams, and my first time reading anything by this author.
The story starts with Bailey meeting her mother’s new boyfriend, she finds it difficult meeting new people, and even more awkward when it’s her soon to be stepdad. Soon enough Bailey finds herself in a new home, new neighbourhood and new school. What she didn’t expect is for her new stepbrothers to want to make her life hell, super sexy Cooper in particular seems to hate her. Bailey soon finds out that there’s a fine line between love and hate, and things aren’t as they seem on the surface in her new home.
It took me a little while to warm up to Bailey, and even longer to take to Cooper, but I did in the end. The story is action packed and emotional. It takes you on a rollercoaster ride through anger, sadness and hope…with several pit stops on the way. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
Stepbrother: Step Dilemma Series Book 1 by Stacy McWilliams is a fantastic read! The way she creates her characters and how real life they are make you want to be right there with them. Stepbrother is filled full of ups, downs, and turns that you would not believe are happening. Events seem so real that the reader may relate. If you like HEA then this novel is definitely not for you. Then ending will make you bite nails waiting to and wanting to read the next novel in the series. One fantastic novel that I would reread over and over.
Definitely a little different than something I would normally read. It was a great book though. Bailey and Cooper had something special that’s for sure. This book was a roller coaster of emotions. Worth the read.
Forbidden love and teenage drama. This book is chalk full of both among other things. Their families are merged together when Bailey’s mother marries Cooper’s father. Their attraction was apparent to everyone, but they tried to play it as cool as possible and not get caught up in their feelings. Needless to say, being hormonal teens that wasn’t so easy. In the eyes of their parents it was wrong for them to even think about being together so they had a love and hate relationship going. There were many times I felt bad for Bailey as she was being hurt by Cooper. Not physically, but by his words and actions. Every time she would say she couldn’t take trying to have a relationship with him I thought, ok she is finally growing a backbone. But, being young and in love makes you do stupid things. Cooper tries his hardest to resist his attraction to his stepsister, but the temptation to be with her is just too strong. It isn’t until his father threatens to ruin her that he finally steps back. All he wanted was for Bailey to be safe and happy. Whether or not that happiness can be with him is yet to be seen.
I have a guilty pleasure in step romances and I don’t know where it started! This book was to be right up my alley and it was for the most part.
Bailey and Cooper are who this is about and the story itself was good but the actions taking place didn’t sit well with me. I like my heroines to be strong and have some sort of a backbone and she just took whatever attention she got, good or bad. I know it’s played off of how her father wrote her off as a kid but I just wanted to shake them both and say you’re being idiots.
This ends on a cliffhanger so I’ll be waiting for the next book. Just all seem immature and I hope with their age now at the end it changes in the next book.
