What in the world did I just read? I’m an emotional wreck after this story. I finished it yesterday and am having a really hard time organizing my thoughts so I can write a somewhat intelligent review LOL
I think I can safely say I’ve never been bounced around as much as I was while reading this book, Bailey and Cooper literally wore me out! One page I wanted to smack them as hard as I possibly could, then the next page I wanted to hug them as hard as I could. This went on the entire book, there was never any calm or relief, even when there seemed to be I was afraid to hold my breath cause I knew it wouldn’t last. There was so much strength lacking in this story for our main characters, one needed strength to fight to keep and the other needed strength to walk away. I was so angry through so much of this, a few of the characters literally had me raging mad. Then there were parts of this that had tears running down my face. This was the exact definition of a beautiful disaster, and gives a whole new meaning to love / hate relationships.
In saying all of that I could not put this book down, well until the end when if I could afford a new kindle I’d have thrown it and then stomped on it. I need more!!! I’ve stalked everywhere I can and do not see the next one yet. This can’t be!!!
Well, this is my first read by this author and absolutely will not be my last, I will be patient and will make notes for myself because although I will reread this in this future, I’m going to need time to get over it LOL
This emotionally charged novel sucked me in immediately. The off limits romance is always one that draws my attention. I found this to be a well paced book and the characters to be engaging. The book had a nice flow and I am interested to see how this will fall within a series. Very good read. Romance lovers will enjoy.
Now, let me start off by saying two things, Number 1 this is a brand new author to me and I couldn’t wait to dive into the book, Second of all, I NEVER expected what this read was or made me feel!
Its been a very long time since I’ve has a book still ingrained in my mind the entire day after I’ve read it. I read it in one sitting and didn’t sleep after. This book emotionally and mentally got to me, in every way possible, even a couple pages in I had tears streaming down my face and believe me when I say I had many more tears to come! This book completely astonished me, blew me away and held me captive throughout.
Bailey & Cooper, now where to start… this relationship and connection was mind-blowing from the very beginning! All I wanted for them was a HEA, honesty and a love like no other. Cooper gave us various different sides of him and not all good but there was still something that kept me wanting something good to happen for him.
All the other characters in this read give me various different opinions and emotions but two in particular really makes me want to scream, shout and throw my kindle!
Through this read we are taken on an emotional journey, we have anger, frustration, heartache, pain, numbness, love, passion, hatred and more. Words can’t explain this read, and I was left wanting more!
I can’t believe this read finished when it did, I’m not sure I have the patience to wait too long for Book 2, I need more! Well Done Stacy McWilliams this is a book that shouldn’t be missed!
This was definitely an interesting read for me. I would like to state this book contains some points that are trigger warning worthy moments and delves into topics such as bullying, and abuse. I felt the author did well for the most part with this and kept things realistic and not too much for the most part so that was a good point for me. It still was hard for me to fall in love with the main characters for this reason and a few others.
Bailey and Cooper are step siblings, obviously, but that is not the only odd part about their romance. It was not an easy road for these two and Cooper really spent a lot of time making it hard to find anything to like about him and hard to believe that Bailey would as well except for the mere fact that Cooper is good looking. I wanted to get behind them and root for them but that never really came to be for me as I read. I was a tad confused how this book ended but I would still be interested in seeing what the next book may have in store as well and seeing if the author’s writing has grown too.
Wow this book is such a roller coaster of emotions I couldn’t keep up. It is a heartbreaking story with regards to the abuse they suffer at the hands of Shawn (dad/stepdad) but the feelings and emotion between Bailey and Cooper brings you back to a place of love and happiness despite everything.
Bailey lives with her mum after her dad left them and her brother died in a car accident. Her life gets turned upside down though when her mum marries Shawn and introduces 2 stepbrothers into her life.
Cooper seems to hate her. He is always tormenting her and causing her harm but things aren’t what they seem.
Copper and Bailey are attracted to each other. Their feelings are so strong they have to fight to overcome them. With Shawn being a violent bully who beats them both for ever speaking to each other there is no way they can act on their feelings.
Through all the highs and lows in this story can they defeat everything and be together or will they be forced to live a lie and continue to receive the beatings whenever their dad/stepdad thinks they are needed.
Bailey meets cooper for the first time and she is in love, cooper was a total s.o.b , but not only that he is her stepbrother. And the trouble arouse when forbidden love is at stake. This was a enjoyable read and I highly recommend it
.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I had a great time turning the pages on this book. The way the characters are developed they engaged me from the start.

So this isn’t what I expected by a long shot. I was looking for romance and this doesn’t really have that. The story was difficult to read because the characters irritated me. Many times i just wanted to put the book down. These family dynamics in here are tough and I lean towards stronger characters with a little backbone. The writing was good and easily drew me in (like a car crash) and kept my interest. The characters are a nightmare. Too many times I just wanted to smack some sense into them. There isn’t one to like and Just when I thought I did find one, that person did something horrible and I am back to square one.
I have VERY strong feelings towards this book. I have a dislike/hate relationship with the characters. I almost wish Cooper was written as little stronger (overall) and maybe softer towards Bailey. That might make him more palatable. Then maybe I could root for him. I just didn’t understand his whole hate/love demeanor all the time towards Bailey.
This is kind of a soft ending. Meaning if the reader is happy with the ending. Great But if not there is more in the next book.
Bailey and Cooper have a love hate relationship. This is a cute young adult novel. They didn’t start out on the best foot but this changes over a course of time. Her mother is horrible. This was a bit of a struggle for me as alot of it was repative and some areas could jf done with more detail. Nevertheless is a good story.
Stepbrother (Step Dilemma Series Book 1) by Stacy McWilliams was a good 4 star read.
I really enjoyed Bailey and Coopers story. They didn’t start out on the best foot but she still found him hot as heck. You could feel the hate between them coming off the pages. My emotions were all over the place for Bailey and everything this poor girl went through. Her parents divorce, she loses someone close to her and so much more. All she wanted and needed was someone to love her and treat her with respect. She had no real parents, which broke my heart.
Cooper, where to start with this one. The way he treated Bailey definitely does not lead you to think that he has feelings for her. His brother was awful as well.
Will Bailey finally find someone to love her?
Overall I enjoyed this read. All of the characters added a great element to the story, however I really do not care for Bailey’s parents or her stepmonster. I was pulled into all of the drama, be prepared to cry here and there. We do end in a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. This is my first read from this author and she draws you right in with her writing. 1-click and get started today.
Stepbrother by Stacy McWilliams is the first book in the Step Dilemma series. This book is an absolute rollercoaster of emotions that will have you wanting to scream one minute and completely infatuated with the characters the next.
This book is a great start to a new series. The love-hate relationship between the characters is brilliant. You can feel the connection between them straight away, and the author does a great job of maintaining that throughout.
I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series and to what further journey the characters are taken on.
This is a new author to me and it is a challenge to review this book because there are parts that are on point with the issues discussed but other parts are overkill/repetitive which made it trying to get through. I will also caution those with triggers as there are different forms of abuse that take place. Bailey has not had an easy life. Her father left her mother, started a new family and wanted nothing to do with her. She lost her brother who was really the only person who cared for her. Her mother is a thoughtless, vapid woman who makes matters worse when she finds a wealthy man to remarry with two sons. The sons are not happy that their father is remarrying and they torture Bailey. After the wedding, Bailey’s new family becomes more dysfunctional then ever. Making matters worse, she develops an attraction to her stepbrother, Cooper. Cooper professes his love to Bailey but all he does is pull her in to push her away and hurt her. The back and forth between them is a little much. He does some harsh things to Bailey that make her feel lower than the dirt under a sneaker. It really begs the question of how much is Bailey going to take before she says ENOUGH. Some might say they are young and make excuses but there is no excuse for the atrocious behavior by Bailey’s mother, stepfather and stepbrothers. This book will take the reader on an emotional journey and be prepared for the anger that you will feel towards some of these characters and the situations that Bailey finds herself in which are out of her control. It does end in a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to see what will come of Bailey. I volunteered to read a copy of this book.
I couldn’t believe how far down the rabbit hole I fell while reading wondering if Bailey would ever have a bit of happiness in her life. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked 2 characters more than Cooper and his father, Shawn. The last few pages of the book shocked me!
Bailey and Cooper’s story is full of so much drama and emotion that I wanted to smack them, hug them, heal them, and root for them…all at the same time. This book is full of triggers of emotional and physical abuse. So if that is something that bothers you, I would advise against reading this book. However, if you can endure reading it….this story is worth it!
This book is told from Bailey’s POV and it pulled me in from the first page. A shy girl who just wants to make it through high school is suddenly thrust into a new world when her mom suddenly ups and moves their lives. Bailey’s strained relationship with her mother becomes even more difficult when she is forced to live with her stepbrothers who are doing what they can to make her leave. Cooper is the biggest bully of them all…yet Bailey can’t stop her attraction to him.
This book is told over a time period of years, with the relationship between Baily and Cooper being at the center of it. Their love-hate relationship is an emotional rollercoaster that goes on for years. The book is left unresolved…and I will definitely be checking out the next book when it is released because I need to know what happens. This is the first book that I have read from this author…but it won’t be the last.
Stepbrother: Step Dilemma Series Book 1 by Stacy McWilliams. It has taken me a few days to write this review. I just couldn’t put words to the feelings. This book is STRONG!!!!! I cried throughout this book, frequently!!!! My heart shattered for Bailey and Cooper both!!! At times I wanted to just scream at the treatment of the characters. There were so many emotions in this book. I loved Bailey but the back and forth literally gave me whiplash. I am trying to wait patiently for the next book in the series. I just hope that it ends the way that I want it too…. I recommend this book but beware of all of the emotions and feels…. and definitely have tissues waiting close by.
This was an easy read about forbidden romance. However, I really didn’t connect to the characters. Bailey was boring and inconsistent, while Cooper was arrogant and frankly quite cruel. The mother and the stepfather were so improbably manipulative too. The plotlines were not believable, there were time jumps in the middle of chapters which were quite confusing, and then the final quarter of the book was extremely rushed. This book just wasn’t for me.
3.5 Stars
Stepbrother by Stacy McWilliams is the story of Bailey Walker met Cooper Christie.
Bailey has not had the best childhood with her parents divorce along with the lost of her brother who she worshiped. Now as a teenager her mother has found a man that she ends up marring taking Bailey away from what she knows to go into a house with two step-brothers and a step-father. This just adds to her pain because the situation isn’t a good one. Baily and Cooper end up having a love hate relationship where their parents can’t know that they are wanting to be more than Step-Brother/Sister. There is abuse from all ends of Baily’s life when no one she can really count on because they blow hot and cold with their feelings. This book does progress to Bailey as a successful women in the workforce but her past with Cooper just keeps coming back to mess her up. This book does end with a cliffhanger setting you up for more of Bailey’s story.
Possible Spoilers and Definitely my personal opinion.
I have mixed feelings about this book, yes it kept me turning pages but only because I wanted to see something happy to happen to Bailey and for Cooper to man up… but it never happened. I guess I am used to the male character not being scared of anything especially when the hero become a adult. I was sad to see that was not happening with Cooper. Cooper had the alpha attitude but couldn’t take it to the level to standup to what was keeping them apart. Nor did he change to become that man in this book. I hope that he finally grows up and becomes a strong man that goes after what he wants and isn’t scared to fight and protect what he wants. Another thing I didn’t care for was the cheating that he did to her. When you love someone (at least in my fantasy world) they don’t cheat on the heroine …especially multiple times and in front of her.
