Gypsy King is book 1 in the Tin Gypsies Series and it’s off to a phenomenal start!
This author outdid herself offering us a unique, edgy and passionate story, with so many unexpected twists, I was totally captivated by this read!!
Once again, the author takes us on a thrilling and exciting journey with the gorgeous backdrop of small town Clifton Forge, Montana playing host to this exciting story.
The writing was exhilarating as we embark on the juicy story of newspaper writer Bryce Ryan and former MC president of Tin Gypsies Dash Slater.
When Bryce’s curiosity to get a scoop for her newspaper had her come face to face with her subject former MC president Dash Slater, she never imagined the outcome. A mysterious murder brings them together in ways they never imagined, and a new story takes a life of its own.
The writing was smart, exciting and captivating.
The plot was thrilling as one mystery leads to others. Some secrets are revealed and new secrets develop giving this story more depth and excitement.
Who dunnit?
The characters were beautifully developed. Their chemistry was off the charts hot, while the banter was snarky and the perfect accompaniment for this enemies to lovers genre.
Everything about their chemistry was combustible and passionate from their snarky fights to their sexy times. The unexpected intimate scenes like a simple kiss on the temple in Chaptet 18 melted my heart and had me falling in love with them even more.
I loved that it didn’t end in a cliffhanger…per se.
However, the stage has been set for the next installment and I. Cannot. Wait to discover what happens next!
I was excited to dive into this book! The description fascinated me and I devoured this read. I was very quickly drawn into Kingston and Bryce’s world. I LOVED the chemistry between this couple. It was palpable and h-o-t-t! I loved the danger and the mystery this book held. I wanted Bryce to dig and find that story, but Kingston was an added bonus! Tin Gypsies have their own secrets and they don’t need a hungry reporter digging up the dirt. I liked her fierceness and her moxie. I enjoyed the push/pull between Kingston and Bryce. I loved Kingston and wanted his secrets as much as I wanted the two of them to stop fighting the tension between them. This story was very enjoyable and I can’t recommend it enough! Be sure to grab your copy!
Dude. Did Devney Perry just blow my mind? Because this is exactly what I’ve wanted from her, and the reviews prove it! Check out this new MC romance!
In Clifton Forge, a small town in Montana, not only is there a mystery about a murder but also about the Tin Gypsy MC and why it really shut its doors years ago, enough to make a reporter very nosy.
Ah, what a force to be reckoned with are both Bryce Ryan and Kingston ‘Dash’ Slater. Both strong willed, determined people who are not going to back down. Both, however, also feel the magnetic pull of their physical chemistry. And talk about blue flame passion, it goes beyond red hot!
There is a dark side to the story, the history of the Tin Gypsy MC club as well as the murder where many times no punches are pulled and it’s straight out threats or descriptions of violence. But there is also a lighter element brought about by the choice of fabulous expressions and descriptions in the story. For example… “… murderer was smarter than your average gummy bear.”
The puzzle pieces are all jumbled and as one locks into place more slip out again. When the action heats up, and believe me it does, you find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat with an increased heart rate experiencing all of the emotions. I look forward to reading book two.
Regardless of how buried Kingston ‘Dash’ Slate worked to put the Tin Gypsies Motorcycle Club’s nefarious past behind him and his brothers, including suspending all illegal activity and going 100% legit, the sins of the father…the sins of the past always have a way of being dug up, especially when Bryce Ryan, new owner of Clifton Forge’s small town newspaper, hopes to dig up front page news and is hellbent on exposing the truth regardless of how deep she needs to go or the numerous encounters she’s forced to have with a certain ex-Tin Gypsies President who doesn’t want her sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong.
Needless to say, there’s nothing friendly about Dash and Bryce’s initial encounters, which makes sense since given what Dash’s father is up against and just how good Bryce is at her job. The way that Perry writes the progression of Dash and Bryce’s relationship works well because it’s clear they are on opposite sides when it comes to what Bryce wants to expose, but the more she proves herself to be a formidable foe, the more Dash wants to know everything about her.
Bryce is definitely a ball buster, and the fact that she one-ups Dash, on numerous occasions, only make her more attractive to him, meaning that he’ll keep playing her games and going head-to-head with her because her feistiness, her sharp wit, and her intelligence makes her his picture match. Dash is quite the contradictory character – his past very much made him the man he is today and even though he’s now on the right side of the law, that doesn’t negate all that he and his Tin Gypsies’ brothers have done. I felt a bevy of different feelings for him at various parts of the book, but, ultimately, I could appreciate the work he’s done to follow a path much different than the one he once did.
One aspect of Devney Perry’s stories that I’ve always appreciated is the role her secondary characters add to and play in the plot as well as how they also show themselves to be deserving of their own stories.
The story line has a little bit of everything romance lovers enjoy: suspense, drama, mystery, any sizzling chemistry between the hero and heroine. The murder mystery definitely becomes the main focus for both Dash and Bryce and that quest puts them on the same team, even if they have different reasons for wanting to seek out the truth. After everything played out the way they did, there were still a few questions left unanswered that I wanted more insight on, but I’m hoping as the series continues, that readers will become privy to that information and feel like it was resolved in the best way possible.
4.5 Poison Apples
I saw the cover for this book and was blown away! I knew I needed to read this story! As I started I was really intrigued on what was going to happen and how it was going to play out but as I got into the story I lost some of that excitement. I think I had such high expectations because the book has this amazing cover. It was edgy and dark but the story didn’t fit that. Sure, it had some moments that could have been close to capturing that feeling but it didn’t quite get there. It wasn’t a bad story but it also wasn’t one that blew me away. It was middle of the road kind of story. I did enjoy the concept of the story and thought the bones of it all was there it was just lacking in other areas for me. I’ve read many books from this author so I am sure this wont be my last.
3.5 Stars
Gypsy King is the first book in the brand new Tin Gypsy series and as usual showcases Devney Perry’s amazing writing skills.
One of my most anticipated reads this year, I was really excited to dive into a brand new Devney book, especially one so different than what she normally writes. Unfortunately, I didn’t love it as much as I expected to. I’m not really sure what it was, but the storyline was just lacking something, and I had a hard time getting into it and connecting with the characters. I did enjoy Dash, but the character I was drawn to the most actually had very little to do with the plot.
While I didn’t love this particular storyline, there is no denying the writing itself was outstanding. Her words drew me in and proved just how talented she is. I am looking forward to the next book in this series, and can’t wait to get Isaiah’s story!
Enemies to lovers in a new small two series? Yes, please. Hang on, because Perry will take you on a crazy-good ride with Gypsy King.
If you’ve read Devney Perry previously and loved her, than I’d say there is a huge possibility that you’ll love Gypsy King as well. However, let me just say while this may be the same author that created the Jamison series or Lark Cove, it’s like she turned her own light off and went darker with the Gypsy King. I loved her older series but I might be a tad obsessed with the first book in Tin Gypsy series. The writing in GK still has that fluid, descriptive feel of all other Devney Perry novels. Gypsy King has a gritty, dark edge and I was lost to it.
The characters have strong personalities and they both seem to want to be in control. It’s a battle of wits! Bryce and King are like oil and butter… they work well separately… but if you combine them you can make it even hotter! The dirty talk and sexual tension in GK was thick like fog. These two had instant chemistry. I loved the portrayal of the small town newspaper in Montana. I actually work for one in Vermont. We have a small weekly paper with just 8 employees with half only being part-time. So she did good showcasing the struggle of small town news. I found myself laughing a few times in the beginning with Bryce’s boredom. I swear, there are times I hall asleep sitting right up at my desk!
Anyways, Gypsy King is another grand slam for Mrs. Perry. Her writing it deeper and darker with this push, pull between the main characters. I also felt she developed the town and secondary characters perfectly. I’m also astonished by Perry’s writing. Even though GK is so different from her “usual work” it is just as perfect, if not more. I admire when authors stand strong behind a story that talked to them. There’s a ton of secrets and lies but after time, a trust is built and things start to get a bit confusing when it seemed so simple at first!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Gypsy King
There is nothing like an author you enjoy reading releasing a new series. And when it’s Devney Perry the anticipation is even higher.
Gypsy King was everything I could have hoped for and more! It was fast paced and had twists and turns I didn’t see coming. It has amazing characters you quickly fall for and want more of. It’s steamy and romantic. And you can’t put it down.
Devney Perry does it again with Gypsy King the first book in a brand new series. It’s a small town romance with a little suspense. Bryce and Dash have amazing chemistry from the get go. Bryce is feisty and Dash is perfectly flawed. Devney’s writing is superb and her character development is top notch. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
So good!!!
Ever since I first saw that this book was coming, I’ve been dying for this book. It was one of my most anticipated Fall releases and boy, did it deliver!
This story was addictive from the get go and so very different from this author’s other books. I have never read an MC book before. I know a lot about them and love them so I’ve always been a little wary about if I would like them. I’m so glad I picked this one for my first. It wasn’t fully about the MC which I liked a lot. It was a nice way to get my toes wet per-say in this trope.
Bryce and Dash were so much fun! Dash is the ex-president of the Tin Gypsies MC and Bryce has recently returned home to help her father run the local newspaper. She is determined to expose the MC as murderers but she wasn’t ready for Dash. Watching their banter, chemistry, and feelings was so fun! I loved every second of their romance!
I still have questions that need answers and I can not wait for the next book! It’s going to be a very impatient couple of months waiting!
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
4 stars. This book was really good! Gypsy King is the first book in Tin Gypsy series by Devney Perry. This is Bryce and Dash’s story. Bryce is a former news reporter for a tv station who recently moved to the small Montana town of Clifton Forge. She has left the big city life and joined her father, who runs the town newspaper, as a reporter. But the small town doesn’t have much going on to report on. Except the Tin Gypsies. They were a local motorcycle club who had criminal ties, but they disbanded several years ago and no one knows why. Dash was the president of the club and now runs the town’s car mechanic shop. When a body is found, murder shakes up the town and Bryce can’t let the story go uncovered. She investigates the Tin Gypsies and falls for Dash along the way.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a great combination of MC club and romantic suspense. Bryce was such a fun character, very Nancy Drew-like. I really liked Dash too. They were very good together and had great chemistry. I very much enjoyed the murder mystery and suspense aspect as well. The mystery is not fully resolved, so I think it will continue in future books.
Overall, I connected with Gypsy King in a way that has sometimes eluded me in other Devney Perry books, so this is definitely my fave. This book has good romance, mystery, story and characters. I can’t wait for more from this series in the future.
First of all, I need to say that Devney is one of my favorite authors that I discovered in recent years. She writes in a way that you feel like you know the characters, they are real people and you are just meeting new friends and catching up with old ones. Even Gypsy King being a spin-off, it’s a whole new series. For me, Devney makes this blend seamlessly, where old readers will have their little nostalgia, and new readers will not be lost trying to understand the story. I’ve been waiting for Dash story it seems like ages, and I can say I’m so happy Devney decided to tell it. It’s a new spin in a MC series, with a hint of mystery, a lot of action, a great heroine and a cocky hero. If you are looking for a new series to start, I completely recommend this one.
What is it about motorcycle club books that’s so appealing and unputdownable? I don’t know, maybe it’s the sexy alpha bad boys…whatever it is, this book has the secret sauce, so get your paws on a copy and get reading!
A new romantic suspense series from Perry, set in a small Montana town. Full of steam and intrigue, this time involving a MC.
Gypsy King is the first book in the Tin Gypsy series by Devney Perry. If you follow my reviews then you know I don’t read the synopsis if I have read a book by the author in the past. I love the mystery of it. I didn’t even realize this was an MC book until I started reading it. I don’t read a lot of them so that was exciting. I don’t want to spoil anything so it will be fast.
Bryce was after the big story. She wanted to know why the Tin Gypsies Motorcycle Club disbanded. The small town she moved back to six months ago didn’t seem to care. The club members were legit now and didn’t cause any trouble but she knew there was a story and she was going to get it. Even if she had to deal with Kingston “Dash” Slater, former president of the club and son of one of the founding members.
Dash had secrets. Ones that couldn’t get out without hurting everyone he cared about. He was working hard to keep the past in the past. He didn’t need a nosy but hot AF reporter sniffing around. Especially after a woman is murdered in a hotel and it all points to the Tin Gypsies. The club was over but it was time to use their skills to prove it wasn’t one of their own.
Dash and Bryce’s relationship is complicated to say the least. They can’t trust each other but the sexual chemistry is off the charts. They need to stay away from each other but there is a pull there. They both want the truth. Who was a murderer in their small town?
I loved Dash and Bryce’s banter. It’s hilarious, fun, flirty, and down right sexy. They have met their match. I loved how Bryce stands her ground. She is one determined and strong woman. And Dash is more than a man who wants to get in her pants. There is so much there!!
Overall…it’s full of secrets, lies, heat and twists. I didn’t want to put it down. I can’t wait for the next book!!! Oh, it’s going to be so good. There are six!!! I don’t even know that until I went to GR and added them all to my TBR.
P.S. Make sure to click on the link at the end of the book for a bonus scene.
Quotes:
Scorching. Smoking. There was another s word somewhere in my mind but as he stepped into our huddle, I lost my advanced vocabulary. Seriously . . . damn.
“You make a habit of printing lies? I can’t wait to shove them down your throat.”
“God, you’re fucking amazing. Too bad you don’t like me.”
“That’s right. I don’t like you.” Not at all.
Fast-paced page turner. Can’t wait for the rest of the series!
Gypsy King is the first book in Devney Perry’s new series, Tin Gypsy. It is a spin-off from her Jameson Valley series (Dash is the younger brother of Nick, who was a main character in The Clover Chapel, and Bryce interviewed Sabrina from The Outpost). You don’t need to have read that series, though, to read and appreciate all that is Gypsy King!
Bryce has just moved to Clifton Forge to take over the newspaper that her father owns. She is determined to make a name for herself after feeling like a puppet in television news previously. And the story she is looking for? What really caused the Tin Gypsy Motorcycle Club to shut down? When she starts to investigate, a crime occurs in which one of the former Tin Gypsy’s is a lead suspect. Dash and Bryce must work together to find out the truth. In the process of this, the chemistry that is between Dash and Bryce is off the charts!
I must say that I am normally not so much a fan of MC books. However, I couldn’t help but root for Bryce and Dash. Their back and forth banter added so much! I understood Bryce’s desire to want the story, but I also understood Dash’s desire to find the truth.
Devney Perry did a superb job of making these two feel real to me. And she created such a suspenseful background to the story that I cannot wait to read more! I look forward to the next book in the Tin Gypsy! I need to find out what really happens!
I highly recommend reading Gypsy King! This book is at the top of my favorites list of 2019!
Like every other Devney Perry book, the writing is phenomenal. The story sucks you in and keeps you until the end.
Unfortunately, I didn’t feel the suspense as much as I wanted to.
Like, it was there and I knew it was supposed to be this “edge of my seat, I have to know what’s going to happen or I may die” type of suspense but I wasn’t all the way there.
That beings said, it was still a great book. I loved the characters. I loved the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone, as well as all of her other books.
I’m looking forward to more from this series because I was left with quite a few questions!
(Also… in Ally fashion, I feel in love with a side character… I’m in deep with Isaiah. Luckily I don’t have to annoy her for his book like I did with Milo. Riven Knight is coming January 2020!!)
