Clients hide things from their lawyers all the time. Pam Wilson makes it an art form.Pam’s been on the run from the law for years and she was getting away with it. The statute of limitations ran out on most of her crimes. For her spouse Charlotte? Not so much. Though they were aging, they looked forward to enjoying their golden years and, hopefully, forgetting about the past.Life got complicated … past.
Life got complicated when Charlotte became gravely ill, their daughter got pregnant with the child of a married man…a married man someone took shots at from a rare motorcycle Pam happens to own. When the man was shot again and killed in his office at Pitt a couple of weeks later, the police found all signs pointing to Pam.
Rochelle ‘Ro’ Rabinowitz, a second-generation Pittsburgh lawyer, and her little firm take on Pam’s case pro-bono. Ro thinks it’s a slam dunk for the defense and hands the case off to her new associate and – she hopes – her future partner in the firm, Dominique, to get her feet wet in a courtroom. Clients are never completely honest with their lawyers and Ro and Dominque soon learn this one is no exception.
Slam dunk? More like a pipe dream…

Where are they now? We’ve all asked that question or one similar in regards to a favorite movie or show. Ms. Anne Hagan answered in regards to a popular 1991 film. Her story answers all the questions we all would have asked at the time. Her filling in of the blanks over the years makes for a good story. Overall, Steel City Confidential is a worthwhile read! I recieved a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Anne Hagan is well known for her mystery books. This is different; it’s a thriller/murder/legal drama. I didn’t expected what I read here. But didn’t disappoint, on the contrary, it amazed me in the best of ways.
Pam and Charlotte have been on the run for several years. They changed their names and tried to leave the past behind, to give their daughter options and education for her to have good opportunities in life. Charlotte becomes ill and while studying in the university their daughter got pregnant with the child of her professor, who is killed and happens that evidence points to Pam. Rochelle ‘Ro’ Rabinowitz and her associate Dominique take them as clients, but soon enough they learn the case goes deeper and it’s a lot more complicated than expected.
The book is great; the plot is perfectly developed, as well as the characters. Hagan navigated through the complexity of the story masterfully. This was a really interesting story with so many twists and turns that I couldn’t put it down.
The story is thrilling, exciting, interesting, captivating. If you want an enthralling, intriguing book with great characters, a very well-developed storyline that will keep you totally involved. This one is for you.
This is the first book of the Steel City Series and is a stellar beginning; I am absolutely looking forward for the next.
Loved the book and I’d like to recommend it.
I received an ARC copy of the book and voluntarily leaving my review.
I remember the summer after the release of the infamous movie that left two friends suspended in midair holding hands, facing death as they had faced life: together.
Great debate raged . Were they friends? Lovers? Was it all symbolic? Suspended together with love in their hearts, facing death because there was no life for them to live in the years when rape, self defense and same sex union were not possible freedom filled futures for them?
I remember an older woman saying it was a stupid argument. An old car with old high octane gas? Boom. All done. She dusted her hands together. Only God knows what was next and they stood together for that. Eighty years old if she was a day. She toddled off down the street where another grey haired lady, somewhat younger, came out of a bakery and reached out her hand to her. The first woman kissed the back of the younger woman’s hand. They turned back towards me. The elder winked. They waved and smiled as they walked away, a faint tattoo that once marked the elder woman for death clear on the arm she held around the younger woman.
Together. Surviving death and life and love- and boom!
This story is like that: death, life, love, friendship and whatever comes next.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first picked up this book but boy did it deliver! It was intriguing and very interesting. It kept me guessing about whodunnit throughout. I usually enjoy Ms. Hagan’s books and I enjoyed this one as well. I look forward to her next book.
