Fourteen sizzling stories include:
A sexy engineer and her artist partner construct a dazzling Victorian-style extravaganza, but on opening night, disaster strikes. Can she resurrect the show and revive their burning desire?
Meeting for a date, a house maid and tailor can find no privacy. Where can they go to satisfy their sexual yearnings?
Together at a dinner party, a gentleman and his fiancée … yearnings?
Set in a Victorian world with steampunk sensibilities, these erotic tales follow the adventures and misadventures of inventors, domestics, explorers, and aristocrats, with sometimes humorous, but always amorous, results. From merely steamy, to highly erogenous, to downright graphic, the engaging characters of these interrelated stories find paths to satisfaction in a world replete with bustles, cogs, top hats, and train whistles.
Robinette Waterson is an exciting new voice in the tradition of “Fanny Hill”, “Moll Flanders”, and “My Secret Life”. If you like alternate history, a diverse set of diverting characters, and erotica ranging from steamy to blow-the-boiler hot, you’ll love this new series.

When I saw the words Victorian Steampunk Erotica, I wondered if they should ever belong together. Unfortunately, my answer is maybe not. I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s mastery of Victorian language and locutions (for me, that was the best feature of the book), and I thought that the weaving of the steampunk technology into the Victorian setting was artistic and imaginative. I didn’t enjoy the erotic scenes quite so much, because they seemed to focus on sensation more than emotion and some of the metaphors chosen seemed a bit contrived. But the actual reason that I downgraded the book a star is that I don’t think that the erotic scenes meshed with the plots of the stories very well-many of the stories would have been fine without them. I think I would have liked Steam Geared better if was solely Victorian Steampunk stories or solely erotica. However, I still recommend Steam Geared to those who like this sort of thing, primarily because of the quality of the writing.
I love reading erotica, and although this wasn’t quite as explicit as I’m used to reading, it definitely captured the steampunk feel & evoked plenty of sexy imagery.
I loved the feisty, strong, take no crap female characters that appeared in this book. That kind of thing is actually hard to find in books of this type and was incredibly refreshing.
There is a very cool, unique vibe to these stories that are unlike anything I’ve read before. I love historical fiction and read a lot of it, but this had the extra layer of steampunk that is completely new to me. The descriptions of the settings were top notch and really made me feel like I was being surrounded by the unique atmosphere in the stories.
Such a cool twist on the typical romance/historical stuff I often read!
STEAM GEARED: VICTORIAN STEAMPUNK EROTICA, Robinette Waterson’s debut short story collection, presents fourteen related tales of lusty ladies and lascivious lads powering the steampunk milieu with pulses of steamy boilover.
Story One centers on mechanical engineer Harold, his socialite wife Lavinia, and their latest collection of steam-powered automatons. Story Two involves Henrietta, a young prostitute who’s sent to meet a Mr. Fernsby, but instead becomes involved with his coachman Thaddeus. Story Three has Mr. Fernsby’s maid Minerva off for a rendezvous with her beau Albert. Story Four shows Geoffrey Gridley showing up to a dinner party at the family of his betrothed, Penelope. Story Five is the same dinner party from Penelope’s perspective. Story Six features flower-girl Effie in a new take on a familiar story. Story Seven follows Minnie and Al from Story Three, out on another date, but this time back at Mr. Fernsby’s house. Story Eight has Archibald reminiscing with his wife Clara about their African volcano eruption survival. Story Nine shows a widow Clementine being engaged by a con artist named Jerome. Story Ten centers on the Pellinghams and their not-so-restful stay at The Thacker Inn. Story Eleven involves a voyeur in a basement two stories beneath a grand home. Story Twelve has airship mechanic Baxter reading a letter from his secret crush Amanda. Story Thirteen returns to Minnie and Al, finally getting some time alone at an inn. Story Fourteen completes the collection with thespian extraordinaire Miss Sarah Bernhardt, muse to Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas, and her quite unusual pet.
The world in Waterson’s collection evokes images of both Victorian London and Fritz Lang’s 1927 movie METROPOLIS. The sex is graphic and not for the faint of heart. STEAM GEARED is at the intersection of steampunk and erotica, and fans of both genres should enjoy it.
