This series of books is inspired by the history of the Murray Clan during the 17th century, and its setting is the beautiful Blair Castle!more
Great, multi-faceted characters. Very interesting plot. Just steamy enough. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last.
This is truly an epic story. It is filled with love, intrigue, battle and betrayal. A story of two hearts that connect beyond all circumstances and fight for the life that they want. I love it and the characters came to life while reading this story, even the supporting characters were so very well developed. I had a hard time putting it down.
Love these books can’t put them down would recommend it to anyone else
Alana Murray was sent by her father Rory Murray to spy on Andrew Murray the Laird of the Murray clan. He told her to seduce Andrew son Malcolm if she had to get the information he needed. She had grown up with the knowledge that Andrew Murray had stolen the lairdship from her father. Alana arrived during the gathering Murray clan and the Erskine clan. It was there that she found out that her father had lied to her all these years and that Andrew was a good man as was his son. Alana was beginning to fall for Malcolm, Andrew’ S son. Find out what trials and tribulations that Alana goes through, when it is discovered that she is a spy for her father, after she makes love to Malcolm. It’s a good book you should read it…
This was a nice “Happily Ever After” book based in one of my favorite places to read about. The characters were down to earth likable people. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
Book two in the Tales of Blair Castle series a well written story that kept me turning pages, a great storyline and the story flows smoothly from one page to the other. Two people Alana and Malcolm’s story has suspense, drama, danger, intrigue, betrayal, battles, adventure, death, and romance. I recommend this book.
I think this is Fiona’s best book of all time.
Read other books by this author and I find her writing to flow easily. The romantic suspense puts the book into page turning category. The emotional issues seem to transcend time. Makes one want to be a fly on the wall or time traveler inorder to experience the time frame of the story. Thotoughly enjoyed the book and look forward to more.
Nonstop action. There is danger around every corner and in the eyes of the unseen. Every page comes alive with romance, suspicion, fear, longing, fealty and loyalty. The characters are warm and inviting. They are down-to-earth and put family first. When lies are uncovered, following one’s heart is all that there is left. I would have given this a five-star review, I just feel the romance between Alana and Malcolm was missing something essential. I felt it did not flow as easily as it could have. It felt like it jumped from one pocket in a scene to another without a smooth segue. Overall it kept my attention with the high-tension drama unfolding page after page. A very exciting read.
My second read from historical romance author Fiona Faris. My wife is a Scottish romance reader & sometimes books she reads influence me. I don’t restrict myself to a particular genre. I’m a sucker for anything with memorable characters and a story that keeps me guessing. The perfect novel? A book that keeps me turning the page long after I should have called it a night. This was a well-written book, I’ll definitely read more from her. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018). Thanks for the extended epilogue.
This is a real page turner. The storyline is so compelling that you can’t put it down! There are twists and turns that you won’t expect.
I liked the hero Malcolm Murray and the heroine Alana. She is fighting between loyalty to her father’s clan and Malcolm’s clan.
I liked it and I recommend it
Entertaining Scottish tale. After an unsettling meeting, Lucas and Alexandra begin to have feelings for each other. Unfortunately, misunderstandings seem to abound with this couple and it seems as if they will never get their happy ever after. I enjoyed this book, especially the ending and highly recommend it to Highland lovers everywhere.
Not your usual lies and deception. Kept you turning pages with a need to see what happens.
I often giggle at myself trying to read the Scottish language.
You can picture the highlands as you are reading.
Already lining up for the next book!
Alana and Malcolm’s romance seems doomed from the beginning. After all, she and her family are seeking vengence on the current Murray Laird and his family. There is birth, war and death in the book with some poetic sections on nature. Once again Fiona Faris has created a delightful story using the Scottish language and brogue set in the medieval period. I really enjoyed it.
I received an ARC of this book and wrote the review based on it.
Romantic suspenseful story, I loved this, great characters and wonderfully written plot.
CAN ALANA STAND BY & WATCH AS HER FATHER KILLS THE FAMILY SHE HAS COME TO LOVE?
SETTING: Blair Castle, Scotland, late 1600’s (based on previous book 1648 and this is the next generation). Malcolm Murray is first natural born son, and heir apparents, of Andrew Murray and his wife Freya (whose heart-wrenching story we read in Book 1 of this series). Andrew has been a just and caring Laird of Clan Murray after his usurpation of this role from vile Duncan Murray. Now, Malcolm is of age, Andrew is struck with illness, and Malcolm takes over much of the Laird’s role in the day-to-day running of the clan. Malcolm seems to have become a man much like his father, and when an apparent waif appears on the scene, being accosted by men, Malcolm comes to the aid of the maiden in distress.
This maiden, Alana Murray, tells the tale of no family, no home, no prospects. Malcolm goes about finding work for her as an aide to his mother in caring for Andrew, as Alana claims to have some training in the healing arts. The problem(s): she is the only daughter of the Laird’s enemy-Rory Murray; her father has sent her in amongst the wolves to gather secrets to enable the overthrow of Andrew & his family. He also instructs her to hide her identity and seduce the heir, Malcolm. (Never clear WHY this was part of the plan). As she becomes involved in caring for members of the clan, her loyalties become compromised.
CRITIQUE: This is a real page turner, so be prepared! It is not required to have read Book 1 to appreciate this book, as it alludes to pertinent facts, adding depth to the story. The storyline is compelling- you can’t put it down! I liked Malcolm, a wonderful hero model, but I found Alana a bit wish-washy: first she wants to obey her father and be part of the scheme to kill all these people being so nice to her; then, she is regretful of those feelings and becomes more involved in life-saving practices for various members of the clan—then back to wanting to be loyal.
Alana is not the only person fighting the demon of clan loyalty—a trusted warrior turns traitor. Such unanticipated events make for an interesting twist on this trope of a spy falling for someone of the hated clan. The H & h fall in love, creating steamy scenes not appropriate for young readers (my opinion), and, of course, there is the HEA .
Handsome Highlanders and kind, modest girls. Strong, passionate, and out of this so rushing life and world. If you want to take your mind and soul to be free, spear a little bit of your time an read it! You will not regret it!
I loved this book! Another masterpiece by the one and only Fiona Faris.I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us!
This book started off very slowly for me and it was all due to what I felt was the author’s overuse of what I assume is historically authentic Scottish spelling and dialect. I felt that it took away from the reading experience – it slowed my reading down and it really bugged me. But, as the story continued, I either got used to it or maybe the author used it more sparingly??? Once I moved past this, the story pulled me in and I really did like it a lot. The author’s characters came alive – all were well developed, complex and thoroughly believable. The story line was novel for me and even though the copy I read was an ARC, the little things I ran across that needed fixing did not interfere with my enjoyment of the story. So despite my initial problems with the writing, in the end – this was a Winner for me and I highly recommend this author and this novel.
This book a great read. I loved the characters and hated a few of them too . The charachters did have great depth to them. I love the way Fioma Faris captivates me and draws me into the story.
