Cancel the wedding— the groom is dead.
When a tycoon’s son is murdered the night before his wedding, the enraged and grief- stricken father offers investigator Dan Reno (that’s Reno, as in no problemo), a life-changing bounty to find the killer. Reno, nearly broke, figures he’s finally landed in the right place at the right time. It’s a nice thought, but when a band of crooked cops get … get involved, Reno finds himself not only earning every penny of his paycheck, but also fighting for his life.
Who committed the murder, and why? Which cops can he trust, if any? Haunted by his murdered father and a violent, hard drinking past, Reno wants no more blood on his hands. But a man’s got to make a living, and backing off is not in his DNA. Traversing the snowy alpine winter in the Sierras and the lonely deserts of Nevada, Reno must revert to his old ways to survive. Because the fat bounty won’t do him much good if he’s dead…

Loved this series. Have read all of them.
Good easy read!
Hardboiled, hardcore, no compromises, and no pretense. Goes down like a dollar shot of whiskey at happy hour. I love it!
My first with this author, Dave Stanton , and won’t be the last.
Really nice pacing and didn’t fall into the fantastical trappings of a story trying to be more than it was.
Enjoyed this and looking forward to the rest of the series.
I really liked the main character. He was a bit of a screw up but basically a nice guy who had a lot of bad luck.
my first Dave Stanton book and I will read more of his
This book is an enjoyable read. The characters are rough and flawed, which makes them memorable. The story is gritty, and I felt a little dirty for having read it. You will root against the bad guys, even if you can’t exactly root for the good guys.
Big money, crooked law , bring in the man to dig the dirt up! Good storytelling, good writing! Buy this book, the characters are real, the story line rocks. My humble opinion of course!
It kept me reading into the late hours.
This keeps you guessing all the way thru
This was the first time I’ve read this author. I liked it. Pretty good writer
Wanted more!
Good read, highly entertaining
Although gambling, drug dealing, and prostitution wouldn’t be my first choice for a read, I quickly got into this story. I thought Dan Reno’s life might end at several points in the story. Fortunately it didn’t. The book kept me reading from the start until the end. I liked that.
I enjoyed Stateline. It is a well written absorbing story with superb character development.
The main criticism by others of this excellent, gritty novel is the use of bad language. Here’s the quandary for the writer … he can leave it out and the characters instantly lose their reality and authenticity. Would Goodfellas have been the smash hit …
I really like this author’s style! Dan Reno is one of those classic detective protagonists: rough around the edges, with a sly sense of humor and not enough sense to stop fighting when he’s down. I’m already on another Dave Stanton novel. Great fun!
Dan Reno is a very intriguing character. The plot is woven with so many twists it keeps the reader what’s coming next. The supporting cast is interesting and well developed. An excellent story, I couldn’t put it down.
I definitely will follow this author and series.
A total snoozer….
very well written
A little on the vulgar side. Didn’t finish it
