When you’re born without a trace, no one knows you’re a weapon.I lie for her.I hunt for her.I kill for her.And above all, I betray my mission for her.She doesn’t know why. She doesn’t care why.I do.Treason comes in many forms.Love is one of them. Our training taught me to be a sociopath. A machine. A pawn. Nothing more than a tool for a larger goal, without attachments or feelings. Our teachers … a tool for a larger goal, without attachments or feelings.
Our teachers forgot one important detail:
Pawns shouldn’t have hearts.
Yet we do.
It turns out our emotions are our greatest weapon.
And I know exactly where mine are aimed.

It reminded me a little of Hunger Games, but was different enough that I really enjoyed reading it! Can’t wait to read the next one!
I love this author and liked the book so well I had to buy the other two books in the series.
Did not like it to slow moving in other words boring.
What is the truth? Show no emotions or you’re considered weak! Who do you trust?. A great start to this amazing series by Meli Raoine
Andi Arndt and Joe Arden are excellent narrators. telling the story with such emotion. They bring the angst, raw emotion and personality to each character.

I started to give up on this story a couple characters in, i was a little confused, the story a little slow, but all at once the picture came into my mind a pieces started falling in place. Young adults, living in communal, there roles being taught to them, dog it dog attitudes. Lies they have been fed, till they reach a crossroad and a new vision appears, and we come to a cliffhanger. I must know where this leads. Answers have be around the corner. Right?
Bravo to Andi & Joe, excellent narration.
Review for Audiobook Obsession
This is the first book in the Stateless trilogy. The world building is well done, complex, and original. The cast of characters (main and secondary) is great, and intriguing. The storyline is suspenseful (Hunger Game style), filled with action, lies, mystery, and intrigue. Looking forward to listen to the second book in this trilogy, Traceless. #AudiobookObsession
This trilogy is part of interconnected series. Here is the reading order suggested (or at least you should read Harmless, Shameless and False before this one):
1 The Breaking Away
2 Coming Home
3 Harmless
4 Shameless
5 False
6 Stateless
This is the second series I’ve listened to by Meli Raine. Stateless is not a stand alone and it doesn’t end in a settled place. The second book must pick up right where this one leaves off. Stateless has a dystopian feeling, like Hunger Games or Divergent, so I’m interested to see how stateless differentiates itself from those series. I like that meaning of the title fits the story well.
I listened to the audiobook. The narration is great. I preferred listening to it at a faster pace, which is easy to do with Audible. I like having dual narrators for dual points of view.

(I rated this story higher after listening to the whole series, as I think the series improves as it continues. It must be listened to as a trilogy.)
Stateless
Stateless, Book 1
By: Meli Raine
Narrated by: Joe Arden, Andi Arndt
Listening to Meli Raine is like kryptonite to me. I love her romantic suspense. This one left me with a million questions and a yearning to keep going to find the answers. Kina and Callum live on a compound where they have been separated from society and trained to take down the government.Kina is the underestimated girl and is left behind to care for new recruits. Callum is though to be a strong force and will produce well. But what this not counted on is the bond between Kina and Callum. This cult like story had me at the very beginning. Listening, I need to find out all the answers! Raine has masterfully intertwined so many avenues, each one opening new questions. Giving us all the backstory in this segment is setting us up for some good listening and I can’t wait to hear it.
With narration by Andi Arndt and Joe Arden, you know it’s going to be good. These seasoned performers get it done leaving us with all the angst and wonder. They are going to continue to bring it on and I am looking forward to it!

Growing up Stateless means you are cold, calculated and sometimes driven by the cause.
Stateless follows the graduating glass from a group recruits. This is not your average high school. Your every move is monitored. You are conditioned day in and day out to serve the mission. Punishments are swift and severe. Whatever you do you don’t want to be seen as week.
The story really centers on 3 main students Callum the smart, handsome obvious star pupil and twins Kina and Glenn. One viewed as weak one so cut off from emotion she will do anything to get ahead. With the final test and ultimately their field assignments around the corner it’s literal fight for survival.
The ending makes you excited for book 2.
Andi Ardnt and Joe Arden are genius. I would listen to them read the phone book with a smile on my face. Absolute top notch performances!

Stateless Book One.
Kina and her twin, Glen, have been raised in the compound since they were brought there at the age of four, but the two couldn’t be more different. Glen is The Star and Kina is The Mule. However, Callum knows that underestimating Kina is a mistake. Because of this, Callum lets more show than he should during the final days of their training. He takes her side and helps her out, even when everyone else assumes Kina is weak. Callum knows that Kina is smart enough to trick even the leaders of Stateless. However, Kina’s weakness is her sister. Glen is smart enough to use that against her.
If you’re looking for a twisty tale of deceit, manipulation and hidden love, this is the book for you!

I’m addicted to her series. Can’t wait for the next book.
What will happen when Kina and Callum find out the truth about themselves? About their past. Is everything they have ever known a lie?
You know this story has to be good if I’m giving a 5 star rating on a book that ends on a cliffhanger! The Stateless series is a continuation spin-off from the False series. This story opens with a flashback when we first meet Kina, our heroine, who is in a Stateless training class with her twin, Glen, and our “Hero”, Callum. We’re not really sure what mission they are being trained for, but there’s a touch of a Hunger Games type of competition to determine who stays and who goes. The story is told from both Kina’s and Callum’s point of view which is important since their respective inner dialogues is where the story is actually told! An amazing start to this new series!
Loved it! Could not put it down.
I was so happy to stumble across this gem of an author. I loved a good mystery, intrigue story line and this a sounded good. I liked how easy to read and captivating the characters were. There is clearly more than we know yet and I can’t wait to find out what it is.
First, I need to share this which is I have read The Harmless Trilogy, the The Shameless series and the False trilogy which were awesome. At the end of the False trilogy book 3 I knew this is what Meli Raine was going to be writing about. To be honest, for me it took me a while to get into this book but at the 50% mark of the book did I really become totally engrossed. These children and as they grow older are manipulated and lied to. They are evil in my eyes. Not the children of Stateless but the powers that be. They infiltrate the system and I am not really sure why but the main characters Kina and Callum realize something is wrong and they have been misled. Meli has raised the bar with this new series and I will know devour Traceless.
This is a great, thrilling contribution to the nature/nuture debate, built within a story of intrigue and twisted ideas. As always, this is a well crafted, tightly written book which had me totally focused on the next event from the outset, often with my heart in my mouth. Surrounded by threats to her well being and safety, Kina is a character to admire and love. Instead she is caught up on something deeply sinister and unremittingly cold. Callum is, potentially, a light point in her world. The first part in a trilogy, Stateless has me looking forward to the next book with excitement at what it will bring. Loved it!
In the Harmless and Shameless series we heard the rumors about stateless and their nefarious plans for the world. In this new book we discover the world inside the anti establishment organization. As the children of the stateless grow up believing that they were either born into the organization or saved from abusive homes, they are now finding these are lies to serve the agenda. As they move forward to find out who they are will Kina and Callum going to be able to remain true to stateless and complete their missions?
This is the first book of the newest trilogy by Meli Raine, an author who never flies under my radar. Her books are simply too well developed, her characters too intriguing, and her stories so addictive, that you know you don’t want to miss even one.
Before going on about this newest trilogy, I would be remiss if I didn’t make it clear that although a reader, new to this author, could probably begin with this book and enjoy it, they would be truly missing out. Every one of the books previously written by this author is tied into the entirety of the storyline to some degree. And although the earlier series are not as relevant or important, the Harmless, Shameless, and False trilogies (in this order) are absolutely essential to this current series. One would really be missing out, on so many levels, and would fail to make all the important and relevant connections between the characters and the overall storyline. Although I would hope that this note of caution does not turn anyone away from reading this book or any of the previous ones referenced (as it would be a big mistake and they would really be missing out on a phenomenal set of books), you will completely understand my reasoning once you’ve read them.
The prior sets of books addressed the story from the outside, those dealing with the acts, actions, and repercussions of some, as yet unknown, subversive organization whose end game and ultimate goals were unclear. And, even though the protagonists in those books are beginning to uncover some of the unknowns, it remains on a relatively superficial level. This series begins from the other side, within Stateless, the organization in question, and information about the group’s structure, their plans, and goals is slowly being revealed.
Reading these books is like peeling an onion. There are so very many layers. And every one of them leads to more intrigue and uncertainty about what’s coming next. The unanticipated intertwining of characters, the surprise every time the unexpected occurs, and the knowledge that Meli Raine has it all mapped out in her head and is throwing us the necessary crumbs to answer some questions, all the while building on the thrill and keeping us on tenterhooks while carrying us further into the quagmire, is intoxicating. As much as I want this all to be fully spelled out, I just don’t want it to end. I’m totally hooked.
Stateless
By Meli Raine
Main Characters: Kina and Callum
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
5 out of 5 stars
As usual, it seems I tend to start reading books out of order. I was a little lost at the beginning of the book but holy cow it just reigns you in until you can’t put it down. The suspense and twist and turns are amazing. And how an author can think of all these things just boggles my mind. I highly recommend this series and all things Meli Raine. I have read the first two books in the False series and the box set of the Harmless series. I am eagerly looking forward to Traceless next.
