I love Man of the Month series with differenr perks and love stories…
I am loving this series. While yes they are all standalone’s it is so much better to enjoy the series because each book has been amazing so far. He has always been the class clown and now with his radio show Morning with Wood his brashness is part of who he is. He has his own secrets he harbors but rises above it all by keeping it all close to the vest. She has always been prim and proper and never EVER causing a ripple until the night she gets drunk and jumps in head first. It’s a delicate dance for them both because they are so far out of their element. Explosive, sexy, passionate, words she never thought would be associated with her. When they both let themselves go and all is revealed maybe they too will become victims of the calendar as well. . . .like the others. Who knew the bars problems would make for great matchmaking.
I already said I love this series, but it is true. Each character finds a way into your heart with their story and this one is no less entertaining. Awesome read.
Nolan and Shelby’s story was such a sweet love story. Nolan is an on-air radio personality who likes to discuss all things inappropriate. Shelby is pretty straight laced and can’t imagine having her love life on air….or can she. It was fun to watch this couple navigate the waters to find their HEA. The friendships that we’ve seen through this series are again in play in this book as they work to save the bar. This is such a fun project and I’ve loved meeting each of these characters as they find their their perfect matches. I can’t wait to continue on!

Thoughts: Ooooh, I think Nolan is my favorite so far. He is so full of comic relief yet observant and sweet. The perfect book boyfriend! Shelby is shy, reserved, and too worried about what others think. Complete opposites, yet they mesh so well. Watching her “let her hair down” with Nolan was so much fun. She’d say something dirty then blush like crazy or cover her mouth in shock, it was hilarious. Mr. April is a must read!
Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work and chose to write a review.
This is the latest installment in this series and this one tells the story of Nolan Wood and Shelby Drake. He is a local celebrity, a morning radio host known for raunchy and raw drive time speak that wakes you up, Mornings with Wood, and really does not have a filter when it comes to his show. Shelby is an accountant and all about numbers and pretty shy and introvert and set in her ways. A chance meeting at the Fix on Sixth while Shelby is more than a little tipsy celebrating a coworkers coming wedding has Nolan doing all the chasing which is a role reversal for him. This story is well written and brings out the insecurities in both characters but shines a light on how they ultimately work so good together. It was fun to watch them both fall and to continue watching the regulars at the Fix on Sixth rally together. I am having a great time with this series and look forward to the next one. These can be read as standalone books but, really, why would you want to.
Start Me Up for me went into a whole new direction. Nolan is our Mr. April and HELLO Mr. Radio personality! Shelby’s and Nolan’s story is different from the first three books because their lives are outside of The Fix. There was talk about the Man of the Month contest, but this story was not built solely on it. We get a different taste and let me tell you! It was yummy.
Nolan and Shelby could not be more different for each other. When they first started dating I was excited and nervous. This relationship could end up very good or very bad. But in the end Shelby knew what she wanted and went after it!
Start Me Up had me captured from page to page. These men make it hard to put the book down. I love Nolan’s personality and silliness he brings. The ending was perfect and I could not ask for more!!! I am so ready for Mr. May!!!
I never knew April could be so HOT!!!
Noah Wood is a sexy guy who grabs life and enjoys every ounce he can (So far, Noah is my favorite. But don’t tell anyone). Shelby Drake is a shy woman who strides for calm and orderly in her life. How will Shelby react when a twister named Noah Wood tear’s through it?
J. Kenner has done it again. I love how after each book, I feel closer to each of these characters.
Shelby has her hole life figgering out. She has a boyfriend Alan not a super exciting relationship but she wants a husband and a house and some kids and then she has her fantasies. They become very real when she meets Nolan a hot and sexy guy she spent a hot night with. She has no intention on seeing him agin but what is she going to choose the safe one or the hot one ? This is the fourth book in the series and as the others it was fantastic. super hot funny and so romantic. I love this series and I can’t wait for the next book
Final Score – 4.5 Stars!
Nolan Wood. A wise cracking, in your face shock jock of local morning radio. Nothing is off limits with him. Shelby Drake. CPA accountant, nerdy, reserved, she’s just looking to further her career.
These two are the definition of polar opposites, but lord how they mesh so beautifully!
They meet across our favorite bar, and the attraction is not only mutual, but simmering to a boil! What was supposed to be just a one night stand, turns into a full blown passionate relationship neither can walk away from, nor ignore. But what happens when Nolan’s on air personality clashes with Shelby’s demure attitude?
It was lust turned to love at first sight for me, Nolan and Shelby! This book is just what I needed to get me over my book hangover. Not only was it an enjoyable read, it had me hooked from the prologue to end. I adored witnessing these two characters – seeing their chemistry spark a life of it’s own. Shelby needed to break free and let her hair down … what better way to help a girl out, right Nolan? *wink* Each month, I look forward to the new man who enters the contest at The Fix on Sixth and Mr. April was no different.
And good lord, I can’t wait for Mr. May!! *squee*
Shelby has always looked for men that check off all of the boxes on her list, but when she has a one night stand with radio shock jock Nolan, none of those boxes are even thought of. But while Nolan has uses his outspoken humor to further his career, it leaves the real true man unknown. Can Shelby find the man underneath the facade? And will that man complete her checklist? Or will Nolan once again hide behind his secrets and never get his HEA? I absolutely love this series. J. Kenner has introduced us to beautifully written characters that you cannot help but fall in love with. I cannot wait for more in this series.
Hello Mr. April. Nolan is the latest hottie to come out of the Man of the Month Series by J Kenner. An AM radio shock jock, Nolan is the exact opposite of what checks Shelby’s boxes. Sparks fly between these two, and they both need to figure out how to mesh in each other’s very different worlds.
This book is a quick and fun read, and a great addition to the series. I enjoyed meeting these new characters. It’s a lot of fun to read each of these books and see how the diverse characters will fit in with the overall theme of the bar rescue plot.
“He’d played the fool once. No way was he doing it again.”
What happens when you take two different personalities, backgrounds in family life, career paths and add a little chemistry? Can you stay on track with your goals, planned out relationships or get past outsiders judgement?
“…if I’m your fantasy, then you’re my muse.”
I thought I’d finally get through one of Kenner’s books without tears. Even through the humor, hysterical girls night out shenanigans and Nolan’s monologues she still broke me down. I wouldn’t have it any other way. She touches on serious subjects, real life situations and makes you want to have real friends like the characters she describes.
“He wanted to never let go—and at the same time he wanted his hands free so that he could explore every curvaceous, sensual inch of her.”
As usual ~ I can not wait to get my hands on the next book in the Man of the Month Series, Get It On. Tyree has some work to do, because Mr April somehow wormed his way to the top of my list!
“Just because you lost your wingman does not mean you have to abandon your mission.”
4.5 Star Review Start Me Up (Man of the Month #4) by J Kenner
The fourth book in the series and is Nolan Wood and Shelby Drake’s story. This was a fun quick story which flowed well and was entertaining.
The books in this series can easily be read as stand alone, but since they are not that long and a quick and easy read I would recommend you one click them all.
What happens when a one night stand has the potential to become so much more? Nolan is a local DJ who is doing advertising on his radio show for The Fix on Sixth and their current Man of the Month competition; it is also his local haunt.
Shelby Drake attends a bachelorette party and finds herself attracted to the man with the grey eyes (Nolan) However, Shelby is a quiet woman who does not make waves. She knows what she wants and has her life planned out, even dating a man her parents set her up with.
Imagine her shock when she decides to let her inner vixen out to play and Nolan is just the man to have some fun with.
Shelby does not expect it to be more than a one night stand although when she wakes in the morning she is disappointed that he has gone. Imagine her horror when her friends who were at the party, tune in to his radio program and she hears him talking about his night of passion.
Initially horrified, Nolan finally gets her to listen to his apology. For Nolan he is shocked to realise that he actually wants more than a one night stand, however he has to convince Shelby to take a giant leap of faith and come out of her comfort zone.
One click now and see what happens.
I loved the characters of Noland Shelby both separately and together. And I cannot wait to see who is Mr May.
I am so enjoying this amazing Man of the Month series!
Start Me Up’s Mr. April is Nolan Wood, a morning radio shock jock. He’s rude, crude and no topic is off limits from his radio show. And he isn’t lacking attention from the ladies. But there’s no one special in his life—no one who gets too close to see the real man behind the mask he wears. Until Shelby Drake.
Shelby is not Nolan’s normal type. She’s smart, quiet, goal-oriented, and focused. She’s not one to fall into the arms of a handsome playboy. But there’s just something about Nolan that works its way under Shelby’s skin and into her heart. She’s never been a risk-taker before, but is Nolan worth it?
Wow, I kinda adored Shelby and Nolan’s whole opposites attract relationship, because in all honesty, they were perfect for each other. Nolan helped Shelby loosen up, find the fun in life and Shelby showed Nolan that it was okay to be vulnerable and real—especially when with the one they loved. Their romance wasn’t easy—they both had personal obstacles to overcome—but they were perfectly imperfect for each other.
I am loving the “Man of the Month” books. Nolan is that crazy DJ that gets your day started and no topic is off limits as he spins his unique humor each morning. With his local celebrity, woman pursue him which suits him, he’s been burned in the past so he stays away from relationships. Now, Shelby is the conservative accountant. She has a plan with that ‘perfect’ guy that her mother introduced her to. At her friend’s bachelorette party, she finally lets her hair down and Nolan catches her eye. What seems like an unlikely duo may actually be the perfect pair. Of course, the road to love is never easy. I loved the depth of the challenges that each of them needed to face. I also loved their flirty banter and how they pulled each other in new directions. Getting to spend more time with the crew from The Fix on Sixth is a true joy. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Another installment in the Man of the Month series by J. Kenner, book 4 Start Me Up, is fantastic, sexy and a pleasure to read from start to finish. It had all the feels, I’ve come to expect from this author. My only peeve is that the stories are in 3rd person. Yeah, I know it’s been like this from book one, I keep hoping I will get over it, but my mind just keeps changing the story in my head, from 3rd to 1st. So, I guess it’s a testament to how much I’m enjoying these stories, that I’m still eagering awaiting each one.
I really loved Nolan’s laid-back attitude and his radio show was a hoot. He’s a man who knows what he wants and goes for it.
Shelby was getting ready to settle. She had a steady,if boring boyfriend, but she wanted a home and a family and knew that Alan could give her those things. So what if she had fantasies. Didn’t everyone? It’s not like they would come to life.
But, what happens when they do?
Nolan was that fantasy wrapped up in a hot and sexy package, but one night doesn’t make a lifetime.
What will Shelby do when fantasy meets real life?
Grab the bull by the horns, or head for the hills?
START ME UP is the fourth installment in J. Kenner’s contemporary, adult MAN OF THE MONTH erotic, romance novella series focusing on a fund raiser for the popular Austin, Texas bar known as The Fix. This is shock jock DJ Nolan Wood, and CPA Shelby Drake’s story line. START ME UP can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
SOME BACKGROUND: The Fix on Sixth, a local Austin hangout and bar, is in desperate need of renovations and a quick influx of cash so a plan is put into motion, by a group of regulars, a plan that includes a Man of the Month calendar competition, and a reality show aimed at rehabbing the bar.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Nolan and Shelby) START ME UP follows the building relationship between Austin shock jock radio DJ Nolan Wood, and CPA Shelby Drake. Shelby has her life planned out from the perfect job to the perfect husband but meeting DJ Nolan Wood found our heroine thinking about the possibilities of stepping out of her comfort zone. A chance encounter with Nolan Wood, at the Fix on Sixth, ended with a one-night stand that Nolan wanted to turn into something more. Shelby’s plans for the future didn’t include a radio DJ with an over the top personality-a personality that could jeopardize her career path, and the relationship with the people back home. What ensues is the secret relationship between Shelby and Nolan, and the potential fall-out as Shelby refuses to acknowledge the man with whom she is falling in love.
START ME UP focuses less on the man of the month competition and more on the developing relationship between two people at opposite ends of the personality and business spectrums. Their highly sexual relationship becomes anonymous fodder for the shock jock’s early morning drive in program, fodder that Shelby refuses to acknowledge fearing a loss of respect from her family, friends and co-workers. The premise is fast paced and energetic; the characters are colorful and sassy; the romance is quick to build, erotic and fun but once again, I take objection to the use of a certain four-letter word that the author some how adds to most of her romance stories.
