In Robert A. Heinlein’s controversial Hugo Award-winning bestseller, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the Universe—and into battle against mankind’s most alarming enemy…Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have … could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids.
Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job…

classic novel, a basic for any scifi fan
Heinlein’s view of future political behavior is very prophetic when comparing the date this was written (1959) and now.
A classic. The subsequent movies had their own versions of the original story. One of the books that shaped me.
Heinlein was a master of his craft.
Classic Heinlein. Don’t think of the horrid movie rip-off that was made years ago. You just have to read this book.
It’s Heinlein, what more do you need to know?
This is classic Heinlan. Fascinating, creative, and beautifully written. Don’t watch the movie – read this book. It is wonderful .
Loved it in high school, love it still. DO NOT equate the movie based on this book to the book. The movie is a major disappointment.
Heinlein’s greatest YA book, inspirational in that it makes you appreciate and earn your place in society, not what do you have for me…..
My favorite book
A very interesting tale of the future including using nuclear weapons in combat, from a 1950’s point of view.
Had to reread this great book. It’s been over 40 years and it’s still outstanding.
Still the standard for military scifi
A classic…if you like sci-fi, this a must read!!
One of my favorite Heinlein novels of all time.
I read this book about 60 plus years ago and I think this is one of the authors that started my love affair with Science Fiction. As a child with a physical disability, one of my main loves was reading and this author/genre kept me enthralled for many many hours.
the benchmark
Good story using basic training for military service to outline a coming of age story. That being said, lots of phobias crucified with this book.
My favorite Heinlein novel. Probably read a dozen times.
Good Book.
This was my introduction to space opera. And Rah is one of my favorite old school authors.
