I was happily married until the doctor gave me terrible news. My husband must have never really loved me because he left me shortly afterward. It’s been six months and I’m in a better place…but do you ever truly get over something like that? Then I meet Neil Crimson. The guy isn’t just handsome, smart, and charming. There’s something special about him. He’s an astronaut. He just returned from a … astronaut.
He just returned from a three-month voyage at the moon and now he’s working at the NASA Space Center in Houston. He’s my best friend’s brother-in-law so I see him all the time. Every time we bump into each other, I like him a little more.
After my divorce, I’m looking for something easy, something fun.
Neil Crimson seems easy and fun.
I’m about to have a fling with an astronaut. How many people can say that?

Charlotte is just six months out of a marriage that left her with a bad taste in her mouth. Because of a medical problem, he left her, and found himself another woman. Charlotte has decided that love is too much of a gamble, but a one night stand every once in a while won’t hurt.
Her best friend’s husband’s brother is Neil Crimson …. a bonafide astronaut. Handsome, smart, charming, and dedicated to his job. No commitments for him .. his first and only love is when he’s in space.
There is an attraction between them, but they each know the score. They enjoy each other’s company … in and out of bed.
He’s leaving for outer space again …. so what will happen then?
Be prepared … there is a major cliff-hanger.
The love scenes are many, graphic, and they sizzle. This is basically a love story about two people who don’t believe in love … but they’re finding something. Will be fun to see where they go from here.
Many thanks to the author / Hartwick Publishing for the digital copy of this contemporary romance. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
When Charlotte’s best friend Stacy met the love of her life they all became best friends. Vic and Stacy were there for Charlotte when her marriage ended and she stopped believing in love. When Vics brother Neil, the famous astronaut comes into the picture there is an attraction but Vic and Stacy aren’t happy about that. They want Charlotte happy but they know Neil will break her heart with his love of outer space. Since she’s an adult and just wants to have fun why not do it with a hot, interesting man. As they spend time together they develop a real friendship but will that be enough. I’m not sure of the accuracy in the space program parts of this story but I’ve never been this interested in it before.
You deserve to be the sun of a man’s universe
How ironic that two persons who do not believe in falling in love themselves, try to persuade the other that true love is out there. Charlotte and Neil both have their own demons about love and life to fight, but they find themselves falling for each other.
The story is well written and the main characters are quite entertaining to read about.
The story ends on a cliffhanger, so I am quite interested to see how ‘Just being friends’ will work out for them when Neil returns.
loved this story, super cute and had me hooked from the beginning
Stars on Fire is book 1 in The Star series by E.L. Todd. Charlotte is newly divorced and not looking for romance until she meets astronaut Neil. The chemistry between them is off the charts. Will they be able to just enjoy each other or will it lead to more. This story line is well written and gets you hooked from the beginning. I can’t wait for the next book!
This is not your usual romance. In many ways it wasn’t a romance at all, though their is plenty of emotion, passion and chemistry involved. This actually felt quite genuine, despite the hero being an astronaut the characters felt quite real. I think that is one of my favourite things about the way this author writes – that sense of possibility.
I took to Charlotte straight away, she is a no nonsense woman, unafraid of her sexuality and very clear in what she wants and expects. Neil seemed a little cold, aloof and unfeeling at first, but he definitely grew on me. The pair of them definitely worked as a non-couple couple!
Whilst the book doesn’t end on a dramatic cliffhanger, the story certainly isn’t complete. I can’t wait to see where book 2 will take us.
Great book. Great characters. I have only one complaint. Well, two. The story is set in Houston, Texas. I am a native Houstonian born here in the 70s. Now, people who didn’t grow up around here won’t know this, but in the Houston on 2019, there are no 7-11s. It’s true. When the economy tanked in the 80s, 7-11 gave Houston the finger and took their stores out of the area. To this day we have not a single one. So, when the two main characters repeatedly talk about Slurpees? Well, it’s really annoying. So, we don’t have Slurpees in Houston. We have Icees. Very tasty and way more flavors. Suck it 7-11!
Also, there is no way the main character lives downtown and it only takes 15 minutes to get to a house that’s only 5 minutes away from Johnson Space Center. It takes half an hour just to get to the Beltway then another half hour to JSC.
Okay, I have 3 problems: The love interest blasts off for space from Johnson Space Center. No. Mission Control is here in Houston, but they liftoff and land in Florida, Cape Canaveral. They would not be sleeping in their beds in Houston the night before liftoff because there would be no rocket, shuttle, whatever there. They’d have to book it to Florida.
If you can overlook all of those errors that could have been easily fixed with research, then you’ll love the book. It’s got heart, great sexytimez, and a bit of a moral message thrown in for kicks. I recommend it… but talking about Slurpees is like salt in the wound.
I was drawn to this book by the cover, the blurb and the fact that I’ve read a few books by E. L. Todd and loved them, so I had to read Stars on Fire!
For newly divorced Charlotte, it was meant to be some no strings attached fun until Neil left for work. But it became so much more. She found herself missing him and looking forward to his return. Has Neil managed to open up her heart to the possibility of love again?
The chemistry between Charlotte and Neil is sizzling hot. The storyline is engrossing, I found it hard to put down.
A great start to the series that has me hooked and that cliffhanger ending has me impatiently waiting for the next part.
Charlotte is recently divorced after she was blindsided by devastating news from her doctor and her husband decided he could not stand by her in sickness and in health. Her best friend, Stacy and husband Vic, are now her family, so when Vic’s brother that Charlotte has never met, finally become acquainted, she is blown away by home hot he is. Neil is a famous astronaut who lives his life for his passion, space and he can’t believe that this petite woman is so tough, sassy and intriguing. She isn’t like the other woman who only want him for what it can bring them. So when Charlotte proposes that the two of them enjoy their time together with no strings attached, he is all in. But sometimes things don’t go according to plan and as the launch date for Neil’s next mission approaches both of them find their feelings deepening. Can they go back to being just friends when he returns? You’ll have to wait for the next installment. . Well written with a great flow and characters that you really want to root for.
I’m not ashamed to admit it, Stars On Fire had me teary eyed a few times. All of the characters are strongly written. I was immersed immediately in their story. I can’t wait for the next book!
2 great characters: Charlotte-devastated by her ex leaving after health problems revealed, now distrustful of love. Neil-astronaut, sexy, not looking for a commitment. Both ok with a one night stand. This is the beginning of a romance not anticipated by either. Ready for the next book!
I loved this book!!!! I could not put it down. I really enjoyed the main characters and the secondary characters. The fact that they are all part of a family just makes them pull even harder on your heart strings. The story is fast paced, plenty of depth and history about the characters without bogging the storyline down. I enjoyed the bantering and chemistry of all the characters. Charlotte, recently divorced and Neil the infamous astronaut. He’s work is his life and she is trying to get back on her feet after the ultimate betrayal. Their attraction can not be denied. Get your copy to see what I mean! So worth it! Highly recommended!! I can not wait for the next book! I am voluntarily leaving my review after reading an advance copy of the book from the author.
I was so excited to read this book. The plot is so original I mean who gets to date an astronaut? The characters are so easy to connect with. Having gone through infertility issues myself I felt a greater understanding for the emotions and the journey that Charlotte has to go on. The connection with Neil is instant and I love the pace in which their relationship blooms. The writing is flawless it keeps you entertained and on your toes at the same time. I really loved the ending it’s the perfect cliffhanger not messy but leaves you needing more. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series it’s sure to be an epic adventure.
When I started reading I couldn’t put it down. E. L. Todd is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can’t wait for the next book.
Stars On Fire has a couple things that make this book stand out for me. First the hero is an astronaut. That’s a first for me and I like the extra it brings to the story. It’ll be interesting to see how these two handle the relationship when he isn’t even on earth. I say that because it hasn’t happened yet. This is a series and their story isn’t done.
The second thing that makes this book stand out is the heroine. I always want to find a heroine who plays it cool with the hero. I like this trait because it pushes the hero to be the one to chase. Charlotte is such a cool character. She is still grieving over her marriage and what her ex-husband did to her, so she recognizes she isn’t ready for more than just companionship.
Since Charlotte isn’t wanting anything serious, this allows her to get close to Neil. I wouldn’t say Neil is a commitment phobe, he is just realistic with how his job has to come first and he doesn’t think it would be fair to a relationship. Because of this he keeps things casual but he also hasn’t met anyone to make him want to try. Looks like that will be changing with Charlotte.
I think the next book will really step things up between Neil and Charlotte, and I’m looking forward to it.
Another great start to what promises to be an amazing series by the talented E.L. Todd. What an absolutely emotional and beautiful story. Can’t wait for #2.
