Meet Elvis Cole, L.A. private eye . . . he quotes Jiminy Cricket and carries a .38. He’s a literate, wisecreacking Vietnam vet who is determined never to grow up. The blonde who walked into Cole’s office was the bestlooking woman he’d seen in weeks. The only thing that kept her from rating a perfect “10” was the briefcase on one arm and the uptight hotel magnate on the other. Bradley Warren had … Bradley Warren had lost something very valuable—something that belonged to someone else: a rare thirteenth-century Japanese manuscript called the Hagakure.
Just about all Cole knew about Japanese culture he’d learned from reading Shogun, but he knew a lot about crooks—and what he didn’t know his sociopathic sidekick, Joe Pike, did. Together their search begins in L.A.’s Little Tokyo and the nest of notorious Japanese mafia, the yakuza, and leads to a white-knuckled adventure filled with madness, murder, sexual obsession, and a stunning double-whammy ending. For Elvis Cole, it’s just another day’s work.

Robert Crais has created a winner with Elvis Cole and Joe Pike, a couple of real characters with different skills and talents. Knows how to build suspense with unpredictable developments along the way to an ultimate solution and happy ending. Well written book, liked very much, along with all the other Pike – Cole stories I’ve read.
Man I enjoy Robert Crais
Excellent book, love this authors work. I have read every Elvis Cole book and never been disappointed.

I have come to like Elvis Cole, At first, I didn’t.
Not the best of the Robert Crais books, but still a pretty good read.
Dry wit, sardonic wisecracks, lively action. 2nd of Crais books I have enjoyed
I love Robert Crais’ books. There is action, mystery, good characterization with Los Angeles as much a character as anybody else in these books.
Elvis is a PI with keen mind, a sensitive soul, and a strangely quiet friend and business partner, Joe Pike. In this book, the action, quick dialogue, surprises and betrayals come fast and furious. …
Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are on the job again, fighting against evil. Told in first person narrative, the story is fast paced and full of action. It is a page turner if a book, and is unpredictable to the end.
you can count on Pike
Robert Crais writes with a light touch, and his leading man, Elvis Cole, speaks funny, wise-cracking dialog that’s very entertaining. But Elvis is no lightweight. As the plot moves forward and the action heats up, Elvis and his right-hand man, Joe Pike, get deadly serious. In this episode they face off with a Japanese mob to find and free a …
Crais is a masterful writer, & has created two of the best characters you could ask for. Elvis Cole & his partner Joe Pike are better than Spencer & Hawk,IMHO.
PI Elvis Cole is hired to find an ancient Japanese manuscript. The trail leads him to the Japanese mafia and down a path of other crimes, including brutal murder.
Part of my reaction to this book was purely personal – it is darker than I normally read. Still, the bleakness did bother me. Even so, I found the plot uneven, especially when it …
This Book, along with the entire series is absolutely incredible. The first time I picked up one of Robert Crais books had me turning pages into the early morning hours.I have had the pleasure of introducing these terrific novels to both of my sons and have enjoyed seeing them devouring Mr Crais writing with the same intensity that I was rewarded …
The worlds greatest detective, Elvis Cole, and his partner Pike, an ex recon Marine, it is never a dull moment.
One of my favorite authors writes another page-turner, with well-drawn sympathetic characters in a page-turning, hair-raising adventure.
I read anything and everything by Robert Crais
